Well, my Samsung 3DTV delivers, and with Sony backing it, good luck stopping the 3D Blu Ray game/film ball rolling.

Longrod_Von_Hugendon5381d ago (Edited 5381d ago )

The only reason why they bad mouthing 3D is simply because MS has no way of implementing it for their console.

The 3D effect looks better on a home setup than it does on the big screen. Nice try MS. See for yourself just go down to your local shop and check it.

demonddel5381d ago

hey kids stay away from drugs

Longrod_Von_Hugendon5381d ago

and some need the assistance of it. haha

HurtfulTimez5380d ago

actually i only own a ps3 and i first tried 3dtv gaming at a PS beta rooms event and i did not like it so i have seen for myself and i can tell you its not all that i wasnt impressed and it has put me off purchasing a 3dtv so please gtfo with that fanboy MS sabotage talk because to some people like myself they dont think it is all that

boodybandit5381d ago (Edited 5381d ago )

I am still budgeting for a 3D display. I want to get one before GT5 but it's not looking good. Loan me some money? ;)

Brklynty15381d ago

Yet they act like a $2000 and under stereoscopic 3D is available for purchase as we speak lol shows the glasses less tvs then complain lol seriously nintendo makes a 3 inch glasses less screen and we dont need them anymore...

specialguest5381d ago

The price of a pair of glasses needs to drastically decrease though. $150-$200 for a pair of glasses is too much right now.

gamingdroid5381d ago

I'm not sold on 3D as it currently stands, the TV cost more and requires me to wear glasses. On top of that, I don't feel well after viewing 3D content.

Maybe if I get compelling content in the future, but as of now I see no reason to spend another $1000-2000 and at least $100+ per glasses (that I have to wear on top of my normal nearsighted glasses).

The glasses alone is a deal killer for me, but maybe they can do it without glasses in 5-years for up to 4 people at a reasonable price I might reconsider.

cyborg69715381d ago

Your right. And when was the last time thq delivered?

Anon19745381d ago

and also - BLU RAY IS DOOOMED!

Seriously, this is the same dribble we were subjected to when HDTV's came out. "They're too expensive. The difference isn't that big. There's not enough content. Blah blah blah."

I'm sure when TV's went from black and white to color there were probably people saying the exact same things. Funny thing is, there's just as many articles that think that 3D is the bees knees.

3D with glasses doesn't deliver? I watched a 3D movie, with the older tech, not even the shutter glasses tech Sony is pushing. And the movie was awesome in 3D, offered a very noticeable field of depth. So I don't know what THQ wants, but from what i've seen if the games are even close to the current 3D movie options I'd say 3D is going to work.

JawsofRegret5381d ago

3D is public safety issue. If a harmless substance like PCP is illegal, 3D should be too.

boodybandit5381d ago (Edited 5381d ago )

Using that logic (I'm joking cause none was used), shouldn't cigarettes, cigars, wine, whiskey, beer and fast food (McDonalds, Burger King, etc) be illegal?

Then again shouldn't prescription narcotics be illegal as well?
They stop pain but they are not good for you and one of the most abused substances in the world today.

How did this article get derailed again?
Oh yeah, trolls.

metsgaming5381d ago

It depends on how the 3d is used, if its like avatar and uses mostly depth it will be very good, if it has things jumping out at you constantly it will be bad.

tunaks15381d ago

thats retarded.
3d works with glasses, its just more convenient without.

Feels so weird seeing updates for the PS3 in 2025.

Amplitude111d ago

The only reason they do it is to give very tiny inconveniences to the modding community. I'm surprised they even still bother. They haven't even done this to the Vita in quite a while

fsfsxii111d ago

The update is for Bluray drive keys, to keep them functioning. the system is cracked wide open by hackers since ages ago, it wouldnt make sense to cover exploits on a retired system.

Chocoburger110d ago

It needs updates for Blu-ray keys in order to watch newer movies. But also likely security updates as well.

Amplitude108d ago

oh word my bad. Makes sense

OhReginald111d ago

I love my multiple phat backwards compatible 60gb ps3s.

jznrpg111d ago

I have 2 and love them as well. I had the shell of one of them refinished so one is nice and shiny.

Dagexon110d ago

I found one in a charity shop for 40 quid (best find ever!) I fell in love and got another. My first one got nicked and got a replacement so I still have 2.

Chuuzuu110d ago

My original launch day "phat" PS3 is still part of my entertainment center and running like it was new, I've never had a game system last this long. It's had no repairs whatsoever except for taking it apart a couple of times to clean out the dust but of course I had to upgrade the HDD from it's original capacity. I've got a handful of games that I still break out and play every once in a while on it.

DivineHand125111d ago (Edited 111d ago )

Why would anyone continue to update their PS3 in 2025?

My old PS4 has been disconnected from the Internet since 2020. If I keep it I can mod it and if I sell it, it will have a higher value.

gold_drake111d ago

i still play my ps3 and download games.

so ... yeh.

badz149110d ago

me too. there were lots of gems on the PS3 I think I want to play that I didn't get the time to play before. plus the used games are dirt cheap now. good luck finding Deadpool though haha. that game and its PS4 port are worth more than gold now.

RedDevils110d ago

You can still play online with it.

Kassanova07110d ago

It's for Blue Ray movie playback.

PS3 Update 4.91 Released and Does What You Expect This Feb. 27

You read that headline right! It's not a typo, as Sony has released PS3 update 4.91 this Feb. 27 2024, and it does what players might expect.

darthv72483d ago

It says it is for an updated Blueray key but we all know its to also try and patch the exploits that were found in 4.90. And soon this one will be exploited and released as CFW 4.91

Pyrofire95482d ago (Edited 482d ago )

One day the PS3 is gonna be the most STABLE OS every created.
I think I might as well look into some Homebrew at this point. There's probably a cool scene on it.

aaronaton482d ago

I play my PS3 on a CRT @576i. There is a clear bug that Trophies aren't popping up once earned, you hear the noise, but they do not appear at the top right.

CobraKai481d ago

You hold on to that CRT for as long as you can.

anast482d ago

They are still supporting the PS3 that's one reason why people prefer Sony gaming.

FinalFantasyFanatic481d ago

I only finished Xenogears on it in January, nice to see it's still getting the ocassional update.

Whatever Happened To Virtua Tennis?

Sega's prominent tennis sim just couldn't be beat. And then vanished without a trace. Why?

ApocalypseShadow960d ago

Answer: Sega.

You could change the name of the game in the title that was awesome in its day, could still be around today because of its fun factor with a remake, remaster or sequel, that's in their huge back catalog, that's no longer being produced as a franchise. And the answer would still be the same: Sega.

As much as I love their games and their spunky attitude. That Sega no longer exists that I grew up with. The current company is a mere shadow of its former self with only a few moments of grandeur. Which is why owning their previous consoles like Dreamcast, is a necessary thing if you want to continue playing games like Virtua Tennis. The reason why I have two of them just in case one stops working. And of course emulation on the go. Wink. Dreams do come in red.

Terry_B959d ago

Virtua Tennis 3 and 4 didnt sell well. Thats all.

senorfartcushion959d ago

Both Virtua Tennis and Top Spin have gone. It’s annoying for tennis game players.

CBaoth959d ago (Edited 959d ago )

Yeah....all 5 of them. Obviously, game budgets now outweigh profit for what essentially boils down to Pong. I'm not talking about coders but licensing costs. Boxing, golf, etc...all fall in this category where real life athletes far supersede their worth in video games. Same thing occurred to Sony's Playstation All-stars. Sony spent 2 generations helping to cultivate all these 3rd party mascots into recognizable assets but when it came to license them for a game, they didn't want to pay the exorbitant fee. That game's 1 million sales didn't warrant a sequel and I very much doubt ANY tennis game could reach that sales plateau

senorfartcushion959d ago

It’s funny how you’re over the age of 3 and don’t know how to read properly 😅😅 Why the bizarre response?

Yi-Long959d ago

I couldn’t care less about licensing in a tennis or golf game. I don't need real-life players or locations/tournaments.

Just give me some fun cool characters, some courts/courses in varied gorgeous locations, and use the Virtua Tennis or Everybody’s Golf gameplay. That’s it.

ActualEngineer959d ago

I used to play tennis IRL and in videogames. My 2-cents is that a boring game that was simulating an extremely boring sport, was thrown under the rug, now that the devs can produce more complex and interesting games.

It's like the tetris-like games and games like space-invaders, that stopped being produced ... it is because they were good and simple to make in the early days of commercial videogame development but they are just not as interesting as, let's say, an open-world coop arpg ...
