Characterizing Samus Aran: Sexism or Just Bad Writing?

Metroid: Other M may be an appalling display of sexism. But then again, it may just be the most recent example of bad video-game writing.

The story is too old to be commented.

Well the writing *is* terrible. Team Ninja, after all.

They didn't write it dude.

I love this article for the Bill Hicks reference alone.

"I've yet to play the title myself"

This sums up why this article is worthless. To assume it's either sexism or bad writing (which it is neither) when the guy hasn't even played the damn game is ridiculous. He's writing an article based on hearsay.

He doesn't judge the game at any point in the text. He's just positing that some people might conflate bad writing and weak female characterization.

What he did was say that maybe it's not sexism, but rather simply bad writing. One or the other. He's in no position to claim it is either. He doesn't consider that G4 girl might be just an overreacting idiot, which she is.

Everyone is too worked up over this sexist Samus thing.

stragomccloud2987d ago

I think that too many people are confusing sexism with loyalty, and Samus scared of Ridley "because she's a girl" with PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

Regarding PTSD and Samus Aran, I read an article posted here written by someone who actually did their homework....

Exactly. Her being a woman is not the source of her flaws, nor is that ever implied.
