Yeah, there's a heat problem since SC2 is forcing fps speeds to go up. Just cap it with the variables.txt fix.

The weird thing is that his PC didnt auto shutdown and burned up instead. Good thing my laptop shuts down everytime SC2 heated it up. But now is running normally and i can leave it on without having to worry while i go out to eat.

On Topic:
Regardless of whether or not it overheats computers, I look forward to playing this game soon. I have some extra money coming up and my computer is in need of an upgrade. I also have a current MB issue where my periphs shut down randomly. Sometimes it's every couple of weeks, sometimes it's every 5 minutes. I checked all the usual stuff, did some diagnostics and couldn't find anything. Windows is pretty good with IRQ conflicts but this is completely random. I can get up to piss and come back and my keyboard and mouse don't work. Other times I leave my PC on for days without any issues.

I'm going to buy a new MB and probably processor and video card so I can play this and the other sweet PC games.

you know what, even if he says that starcraft is not the reason his pc went down, the fact remains that it was working just fine BEFORE starcraft and only a short time afterwords it fried up. As a pc technician, i have to say that i believe starcraft 2 is the culprit.

If I'm not mistaken, that is far beyond POS, and probably slaps your rig around. The pictures you see on the article are for entertainment purposes. It might make sense to read - if you even know how to do that - an article rather than to *think* what it's about. I'm the one who's RAM blew up due to excessive overheating and, even without the ram, my PC costs more than your the trailer your parents left you.

I played all of Friday and Saturday night with no issues and no increased noise level, no overloaded fans, and definitely no smokin computers...

Fix is good for old computers with old hardware. If you have a relatively new piece of hardware, it doesn't matter if you have a fix or not, because it will shutdown by itself before bursting into flames.

Seriously, if SC2 can kill a system, then so can some combo of FurMark, Super PI and whatever else hardware/system torture apps you can find for free on the net.

If one of these apps can torch your system, then either you bought a lemon (cooling and PSU is often a place where PC manufacturers take shortcuts to save $$$) or you didn't do your homework when you put your system together.

Oh yeah - and don't forget to keep those fans, filters and heatsinks free of dust. It's amazing how much even a thin layer of dust can affect the cooling capability.

I can run 3 instances of starcraft 2 and get 60 fps in each one......learn to build a pc with proper ventilation and cooling....
