Sony's trojan horse for 3D and Move: games you already own

Sony has money and effort sunk into two technologies: the PlayStation Move and 3D televisions and movies. The company would love nothing more than to have you waving your glowing, ball-tipped controller while wearing glasses in front of your brand new 3D Sony television.

While both technologies will require an investment above and beyond the system you already own, the software side of the effort is doing exactly what it needs to do to get you ready to buy: making sure that you already own games that support each option before you buy either one.

"OH AND ALSO this beats out the question of people say the MOVE aint gonna have any games when it comes out"

Ummm...who the hell said that?

"is MS gonna patch their games to support kinect?
no they wont"

You make it seem like M$ is evil because they don't patch old games to support Kinect. Maybe you should take a few hardware and computer engineering courses to realize how difficult it would be to map Gears of War/Halo's controls to gesture based movements.

My God, the PS3 fanfags on this site always talk about how Sony innovates and Microsoft doesn't and when Microsoft attempts to revolutionize the industry with gesture based controls...you people frown upon them. As far as hardcore games are concerned, Kinect isn't there yet...but NO ONE can deny that the technology itself is impressive.

Kinect isn't something I would purchase at this point in time, but I appreciate that Microsoft is taking risks with this new technology.

pippoppow5449d ago

Ms is not attemting to revolutionize anything. They simply bought a company with a camera device with similar but slightly better pseye specs. Hardly revolutionary. Slightly evolutionary at best which is a good thing. Its just that the stand alone camera motion scene has been proven limiting a while ago by sony. Sonys approach has shown to be much more pronising. Also you do have a grating personality so you calling out fanatics while constantly defending ms and enjoying getting under the skins of others is amusing.

calm down and be a man and do tha right thing of not being an a$$hat i never said MS is evil sh!t man. also GO AND LOOK AT OTHER ARTICLES OF MOVE PEOPLE SAY MOVE AINT GONNA HAVE GAMES WHEN IT Releases.

With Kinect, MS have effectively launched a new console as far as game development/publisher support is concerned.

Why make a game for 2 million people when you can make a game for 40 odd million?

i see a lot of arcade games but not much else.

TheTeam065449d ago

From what I hear, games can't be retrofitted for Kinect, so the only game released before that (Joy Ride) was probably done over again with Kinect in mind. I'm not even sure if you'll be able to use your controller as an alternative for it.

Anorexorcist5449d ago (Edited 5449d ago )

"Kinect isn't something I would purchase at this point in time, but I appreciate that Microsoft is taking risks with this new technology."

Yeeeeeeaaaaaaah...unfortunate ly Sony had already taken that risk last generation with the EyeToy.

"...the PS3 fanfags on this site always talk about how Sony innovates and Microsoft doesn't..."

Well, can you really blame them? Now if you would like to retain just a shred of dignity, I suggest you shut up for a while.

Raoh5449d ago

i dont believe they can

they had the ability but they removed the processor from kinect to make it cheaper.. i believe this is one of the reasons nintendo and sony passed on the tech.. the cost is still too high for it to work at its full capability

MS originally did plan to patch games but without the processor that is a no go.. future games only

After looking at the chameleon demo i can't help but imagine a spiderman game using move controllers

EDIT: Also Condemned series would be a good addition.

Octo15449d ago

No pun intended.Thank god Sony learned from their past mistake(PS3 launch). They have enough games at launch for both casual and hardcore.

Feels so weird seeing updates for the PS3 in 2025.

Amplitude112d ago

The only reason they do it is to give very tiny inconveniences to the modding community. I'm surprised they even still bother. They haven't even done this to the Vita in quite a while

fsfsxii112d ago

The update is for Bluray drive keys, to keep them functioning. the system is cracked wide open by hackers since ages ago, it wouldnt make sense to cover exploits on a retired system.

Chocoburger112d ago

It needs updates for Blu-ray keys in order to watch newer movies. But also likely security updates as well.

Amplitude109d ago

oh word my bad. Makes sense

OhReginald112d ago

I love my multiple phat backwards compatible 60gb ps3s.

jznrpg112d ago

I have 2 and love them as well. I had the shell of one of them refinished so one is nice and shiny.

Dagexon112d ago

I found one in a charity shop for 40 quid (best find ever!) I fell in love and got another. My first one got nicked and got a replacement so I still have 2.

Chuuzuu112d ago

My original launch day "phat" PS3 is still part of my entertainment center and running like it was new, I've never had a game system last this long. It's had no repairs whatsoever except for taking it apart a couple of times to clean out the dust but of course I had to upgrade the HDD from it's original capacity. I've got a handful of games that I still break out and play every once in a while on it.

DivineHand125112d ago (Edited 112d ago )

Why would anyone continue to update their PS3 in 2025?

My old PS4 has been disconnected from the Internet since 2020. If I keep it I can mod it and if I sell it, it will have a higher value.

gold_drake112d ago

i still play my ps3 and download games.

so ... yeh.

badz149112d ago

me too. there were lots of gems on the PS3 I think I want to play that I didn't get the time to play before. plus the used games are dirt cheap now. good luck finding Deadpool though haha. that game and its PS4 port are worth more than gold now.

RedDevils111d ago

You can still play online with it.

Kassanova07112d ago

It's for Blue Ray movie playback.

PlayStation Move Controller Used to Perform Surgery on a Pig That Was 5,780 Miles Away

A group of surgeons made headlines after they managed to perform an endoscopic procedure on a pig located in Hong Kong by using PlayStation controllers. It involved the use of a PS5 DualSense controller as well as a PlayStation Move controller.

jznrpg254d ago

There is at least a few good jokes that could come from that title

Cacabunga253d ago

Yet another powerful device Sony gave up supporting. KZ3 move was one of the best motion controller implementation ever

just_looken253d ago

Right the ps move was awesome i have the gun thing from killzone still.

Relientk77254d ago

That's really cool. It's crazy something like that is possible with gaming controllers 1000's of miles away.

Lexreborn2253d ago

Guess that submarine should’ve used move controllers instead of logitech

PS3 Update 4.91 Released and Does What You Expect This Feb. 27

You read that headline right! It's not a typo, as Sony has released PS3 update 4.91 this Feb. 27 2024, and it does what players might expect.

darthv72484d ago

It says it is for an updated Blueray key but we all know its to also try and patch the exploits that were found in 4.90. And soon this one will be exploited and released as CFW 4.91

Pyrofire95483d ago (Edited 483d ago )

One day the PS3 is gonna be the most STABLE OS every created.
I think I might as well look into some Homebrew at this point. There's probably a cool scene on it.

aaronaton483d ago

I play my PS3 on a CRT @576i. There is a clear bug that Trophies aren't popping up once earned, you hear the noise, but they do not appear at the top right.

CobraKai482d ago

You hold on to that CRT for as long as you can.

anast483d ago

They are still supporting the PS3 that's one reason why people prefer Sony gaming.

FinalFantasyFanatic482d ago

I only finished Xenogears on it in January, nice to see it's still getting the ocassional update.
