For a mere $1.99, Hysteria Project is arguably the best title in the PSP Minis collection and a throwback to when survival horror games were actually scary and when FMV had its golden age (as it were). The game is a bit odd in that you don't get any actual plot points until after you beat the game, and the video footage is quite grainy compared to what you would normally see on either the PSP or PS3.
But it's fun, frantic, creepy and will be enjoyed by casual and diehard gamers alike. It's definitely worth picking up, even if it is just to experience the first in what will hopefully a nice line of FMV titles for this generation of consoles and handhelds.
The folks over at PS Vita Reviews decided to download Hysteria Project from PS Minis recently, and have gathered some thoughts.
"Hysteria Project is a very unique experience that hasn’t been a major part of the gaming industry since the early days of SEGA. While the presentation took a hit when stretched on the Vita’s screen and there are some issues with the game freezing/hanging when saving data, it’s a unique experience that any horror fans may want to look into."
About writes: "It definitely has its flaws, and you'll almost certainly finish it in under an hour, but there are so many good things about Hysteria Project that it's easily worth the price of admission. This is definitely one of the creepiest games I've played, and I'm looking eagerly forward to the promised 'to be continued.'"
Gamingxp: In fact, the whole plot, which is best experienced with headphones in order to improve the atmosphere, is described from filmed first-person perspective of an actor.
