Wanna Go Back to 2004? Check Out This Blast From the Past!

RespawnAction: "At my current job as a shipping clerk, we use old newspapers and catalogs to fill the boxes for protection. One day while rummaging through the papers I saw this nostalgic EB Games advertisement back from 2004. Man, this was the longest time it ever took me to send out a package, because going through this advertisement was bringing back so many memories. The deals, the new games, the failures, all right here. This is just as great as seeing an old video game commercial. Check it out."

Nostalgia, it's great~! I rather older games.... They were a bit more fun... Fanboys were scarce and unity reigned.

respawnaction5289d ago

yea I agree, something about last gen seems better than the current. I think the games were made with a little something extra back then.

How I love having Command and Conquer Red Alert 1 on disk, with the ur-quan master also installed.

Lionsguard5289d ago

I don't know what universe you were on in 2004 but Fanboys existed just as fiercely back then as they do now. Only difference was that N4G wasnt around so they did not have a place to all gather and congeal into a writhing mass of decay and sadness.

Silly gameAr5289d ago

@respawnaction

I think it was more about the games than the console back then. Fanboys were less serious about their console of choice too.

It was more about games and even if the brand was brought up, it was more light hearted "mine is better than yours" banter back and forth.

Now it's more about money and underhanded tactics to win over the fanbase other than letting the games and the hardware speak for the themselves.

That's just my opinion though. I would love to go back to the pure fun, but I think those days are done sadly.

beardpapa5288d ago

Pssh... there were fanboys back in the day but they weren't fanboys of consoles. They were fanboys of games.

Dude4205288d ago (Edited 5288d ago )

Had a higher failure rate than Xbox, had to buy memory cards etc... However, I still loved it simply because of the games. Did I use the PS2's problems as ammo to defend the Xbox? Hell no, I played the sh!t out of both of those consoles and enjoyed every minute of it.

Same goes for the Xbox 360 and PS3, except now we have sites like this. All I want is to see is articles ABOUT actual games and consoles, but instead we have these retarded Doom and Gloom articles, multiplat comparisons, blown out of proportion headlines to make developers look bad and of course we can't forget the "will X console win this generation?" even though the xbox has been around for 5 years and Ps3 4 years.

As soon as the fanboys see these articles, they all flock together and just spam a thread with their "DUR DUR DURRRR!" comments.

There's one thing I'll say though about this generation, I'm really not liking how some companies handle the competition, like MS, Valve and Turn 10. Yes it seems these guys are related to the 360, but at least the Xbox has classy developers such as Bungie, Remedy, Bioware (Mass Effect), Ubisoft (Splinter Cell) and more.

Of course this post will be forgotten within a couple of hours and the fanboys will continue their BS. It's quite sad.

I wish the consoles now, were at the prices in the ad!

respawnaction5289d ago

That'd be great, a PS3 for $199 = Awesome

mjolliffe5289d ago

God remember the N-GAGE? Now that was HYPED! Didn't turn into much though...

My guess is that Nokia will come back with a 2.0 version one day to compete with other phones :)

Dark_Helmet5289d ago

My room mate Kernel Sandurz had an n-gage, he looked the total knob while talking on it.

ThatArtGuy5289d ago

Hopefully they'll fix the removal of the battery just to change games then.

silvacrest5289d ago

tech has come a long way since then, even some smart phones have that amoung other things, 1GHz CPU, decent RAM, decent graphics and remember this is all just on a phone, im sure even the PSP does not have these specs, a PSPhone or PSP2 better have though

greatjimbo785288d ago

The N-Gage in the picture was the second version released.I had the first version, and I kind of liked it. Although you did tend to look like a twat when using it as a phone.

adex885288d ago

The QD was really not that bad, they fixed all the stupid design issues and released a bunch of good games, too bad its reputation had already been destroyed with the first one, and with the later release of DS and PSP it was doomed.

I had the big-@ss and was crap!... all I have to say...

Even if they do crack down all a person needs is an Everdrive and a regular old school machine. Or modify a disc based console that has a dead laser to boot off an SD card. Some of those illegal devices look neat and some of them are just plain crap.

XiNatsuDragnel7d ago

This won't stop it unless you have a great service.

Inverno7d ago

What a stupid thing to be wasting time, money and effort. Aren't these guys literally drowning right now? Maybe y'all should focus more on that instead trying to stop people from playing old games no longer being sold.

Inverno6d ago

Pretty sure I've read and seen parts of Italy experiences/ing pretty bad floodings. Id argue that's more important than trying to prevent the sale of emulation devices.
