IGN: MLB 10 The Show Review

Last year's title did too. Also, it's an annual sports game. It's hard to manage constant AAA status when they don't evolve much, and seeing as the formula is pretty much the same, it's safe to see why it got an 8.9

And come on, it's an 8.9, let's not get greedy.

It gets overlooked cause baseball is boring(my opinion). Could score an 11 for all I care, I still wouldn't get it. Great reviews don't automatically equal MUST BUY. The buyer has to like the genre beforehand and baseball is a dull sport for me. The only sports game I'm looking forward to is EA MMA.

OT. Compared to the competition id give it a 10/10. The show has always been an odd franchise to me since its a sports game exclusive... nothing wrong with that its just that you dont see many of those.

I agree. The game is outstanding. I think they did fix the lag issues that were prevalent in previous iterations. I've played a few games online so far smooth sailing. I'm contemplating in RTTS if I should first do a pitcher, catcher, or first baseman.

I think you have to put MLB:The Show as top 5 best graphics on a console and probably the best Animations there are (Uncharted 2 is right there)

Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, GoW 3, Ratchet and Clank (either game), and MLB:The Show 10. (GT5 in the future)

If you don't believe me, play it for yourself or watch a few gameplay videos or what you see on Justin.TV.

The animations are unbelievable and if you played it in your living room and one of your family members happens to stroll by, I bet they would think it was an actual Baseball Game. Everything down to the minor detail.

The only knock people have on it now is that it's a baseball game (nothing wrong with that). People used to say the online but after what I saw last night, the online is silky smooth with no lag whatsoever. I'm buying it as my next purchase after GoW3 and plan on putting in some serious time online.

I'd also like to point out that MLB 2K 10 received a 7.0. Another example of why a PS3 exclusive done by a Sony 1st Party Studios will always blow a Multiplat (doesn't matter who develops it) out of the water. Not because the developer isn't entirely capable, but it spearheads the problem with being limited to DVD.

And before any morons jump in "but but but Gameplay > Graphics" they need to realize that The Show delivers the gameplay AND the graphics. If anything, the gameplay severely outweighs the graphics.

Completely bunk. If Madden 10 is that then this is 10.9 etc.

Case in point: I made a discussion thread about target field mn backstop not being limestone in the vids I seen at operation sports. This thread grew to 15 pages and devs responded but mods ended it saying stadiums were locked meaning no more requests. First patch already out and TF has a limestone backstop. Consider my preorder contained. These devs listen go to Operation Sports if you are a baseball fan.

The .1 deduction is a fee charge for IGN to post the review. I use to go onto that site when when it was called N64 back in 98 and now I don't even bother with them anymore. IGN and the 360 have one thing in common. They charge a fee for premium access when then same content is available for free elsewhere. Maybe it's changed I don't know since I haven't renewed my subscription in 2 years but I remember you had to pay to download guides, watch HD videos and some other pointless crap. I wouldn't be surprised if they give God of War III a 9.9 and will complain about the QT button events. IGN must have some pretty high standards for video games this generation to bad the same can't be said for their reviewers.

Speak for yourself I love MLB and I am in a league so for me it's great. It's not like there are a shortage of those other games because of mlb the show. The key to a console success is variety. You have to cater to all your consumers! Last I check fifa 2010 comes out next month, GT5 will comes out this year, rugby (Do we even have a rugby game?.

Also Although I feel Madden is played out it still sells really well every year!

Being in australia baseball is not popular at all but this does look very nice wow i wish these devs would make a cricket game with those visuals it would sell like hot cakes in the uk ,south africa , india , pakistan ,new zealand ,west indies ,australia india is getting into gaming alot now since most comunications companies outsourced to there we would all be yelling howzat !! when someone gets out.

IGN along with GameInformer I believe have a grudge against Sony and the PlayStation 3. I've subscribed to GI for years and always found their reviews to be a little lop-sided. Some PS3 exclusive titles they reviewed like LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted 2, I'll admit, they were a little generous. But this review on MLB 10 The Show makes my case make more sense, that they really didn't want to give this game at least a 9; they give it just under 9. They did it on purpose probably thinking in their head "9 if it was a multi-platform game". But the thing is no way in hell could the 360 make a good this amazing looking all around.
