No amount of fanboy hate will stop the positive reviews from rolling in on this one. I have a feeling that even the heavily-slanted publications will find it hard to bash this title (though they will definitely try their hardest).

Have you played the game in full to know whether or not it stacks up to Uncharted 2? I know for a fact that you have not. This magazine has, and has deemed it an excellent gaming experience that, in their eyes, should be missed by no one.

How can you compare Heavy Rain to a TPS or an online FPS? There are going to be alot of people who are going to prefer Heavy Rain to UC2 or MAG to Heavy Rain, they are all very different games.

Its still pretty funny when those games are still better than some of the trash released today, add in PC's get most of the console exclusives (Farenheit is pretty much this only less polished and outdated). Don't really need new exclusives as all mutli plats are pretty much better on PC anyways add in I have a PS3 so I can pick up the odd good game (eg Heavy rain, Uncharted 2) whilst getting the best of all consoles on PC. I know I'll get disagrees for saying this but, darkmurder kinda has a point...If you have a good PC and a PS3, then you really can play most all good games. And if you have a really good pc, most 360/PC games play better on the PC. I know if you don't have an exceptional rig that you might not believe it, but it's true. I love using 16x anisotropic filtering and super HD resolutions in games on the PC!!! It's really not that expensive either, I built my PC ground up almost 3 years ago and it will be able to play mass effect 2 on high settings when it comes out...WHICH I'm REALLY PSYCHED FOR!!!

We all know PC games can, and often do, blow console games out of the water, right? Why do some of you have to bring that up in an article about a console game? Tell you what, when I can upgrade my console like you can upgrade your pc, then we'll talk.

I've noticed a few things that I need to comment on.

First off, I have no doubt that this game is going to be good. Hopefully great, one of the two games that I will defo get release day.

But I can't help but see a lot of hypocrisy in some of the comments. A magazine that has an obvious affiliation and is obviously allowed to be the first review out there is all perfectly acceptable and has no bias, but independent sites and magazines that are known for their impartiality (EDGE for one) have all manner of claims of bias/being bought/being fanboys made against them. Some even call for said sites/writers to be fired.

What's so different in these claims of bias? Is it just purely because you don't think said games deserved such scores? I just don't understand this at all. Some people are not being consistent with their attitudes.....

I game on PC,PS3,360,DS,PSP,Wii and, when I really have to my iPhone and I agree that games often look best on MT rig but that isn't true for everyone and even I prefer some multiplats to play on the PS3 over my PC because of my feeling that, online, I get near enough lag free gaming on the games I play(Warhawk, KZ2 mainly)on PS3 that have dedicated servers and I also know that the playing field is more level there with everyone(real cheats apart) have the exact same tech and same controller so it's a better or fairer test of skill in my eyes. Also someone else might game on their system because they like to game with mates and they have a 360 or PS3, y'know?

Then there's people who choose a console for the convenience and reliability(usually) of console over PC, might not be able to afford a decent rig, might not be savvy enough to make their own rig, might not be able to set their PC up on their TV(I can't myself due to the way my home is-and playing with keyboard and mouse is crap unless you're at a desk anyway)-the list of why someone might choose to do this is pretty long. My point is that it doesn't make you beter or more clever than someone who mainly games on a console just because maybe you do know how to build a good, robust, high powered and reliable rig it doesn't mean you're more of a gamer and the harm outbursts like your's do is in making the(imo erroneous) opinion among console gamers that PC gamers are all elitist gits easy to defend.

It's just as pointless and devisive as any 360 or PS3 fanboy sputing off that U2 is better looking than any PC game or whatever and serves to further make our community a splintered one which fails time and again to support it's members as we in fight while the industry treats us ALL poorly. Don't knock people just for being excited about a game that's on their system purely because you prefer your PC. It's fine that you do prfer your rig but you have NO idea why someone else chooses to game where they do, what their background is socially or financially-or even who HAS a decent PC as well.

Seriously, it's attitudes like you displayed here(whether you meant to or not)that meant a lot of console gamers weren't prepared to stick up for PC gamers over MW2 and the hike/dedicated servers issue and the following lies about why they did it from IW. I think flagship games, like Mass Effect 2, are subject to favortisim because of the developers relationship and the publishers relationship with "Said" mag. This isn't just an OXM or PSM or OPSM thing, either. This is a realistic thing.

I don't think I've played a 9+ game, Uncharted 1 and 2 aside, this generation. I simply haven't. And Uncharted 1 and 2 are only 9.5 and 10's to me because of story, pace and interaction. It actually delievers on what it's suppose to. That being a movie experience you can control and fully interact with. Uncharted came thru by making you an action star. That's what it promised and that's what it did. Uncharted 1 and 2 are the only 2 games this gen that are worthy of 9 +'s... Simple and clean.

I don't think Halo, ASSeffect or any other game came close.

Typically, when a game that someone doesn't think DESERVES the scores it gets (usually because of console affiliation), that's when they suddenly bring out the "review score inflation is bad" card. We are all fully aware of this fact; it happens because well-reviewed games get better sales and as a consequence more games are well-reviewed.

But that doesn't mean we should only point out review score inflation when a game we don't like gets a good score. We should merely adjust our own personal scale of expectation as what a score of 9/10 MEANS. When a well-reviewed game gets a 9/10, it's a 7/10 on your personal scale. But that's applied to ALL games, and doesn't detract from the fact that the game in question got a score many games fail to reach. In other words, it means it's still a "critical" 9/10, even if it's a personal 7/10 for you.

Official magazines cater to a target audience. They're official for the sole fact that they can be respected as an official source, and gain access to more interviews, closed door presentations, private events, etc.

That's why PSM became the Playstation The Official Magazine. They want to tell SONY gamers what's good and what's not. What do they care whether a third party exclusive is rated well? The fanboys will argue for it no matter what reviews say.

800,000 is good, but considering it came out on 3 platforms (PS2, PC and Xbox), it's not exactly a run away success. And the PS2 install base alone was pretty massive at this point, so it was bound to shift a few copies.

I think Heavy Rain will do around 500,000 units, and as with many PS3 games, it'll have a pretty long tail.

A quick straw poll of people I know with PS3's show I'm the only one buying it. And whilst this is not a comprehensive survey - I would imagine many people could say the same for a niche game like this.

Why on earth would Sony own a game magazine, and score it's games biasly, your job as a platform holder is to make products and have others, 3rd party sources review it for you. and just so you know, it may be official for Sony, but it's still a third party outlet.

Future backbone publishing owns Nintendo Power, OXM and PTOM and Qore, they hold no bias whats so ever to a platform. thats how come serveral games got 7s and 6s... like Heavenly sword and Warhawk, and Lair and Haze, Genji 2, Untold Legends 3, afrika Disgaia 3. Simply put, OXM Ninty Power, and PTOM, cant afford to be biased. They are the same people that but simply have a team like IGN, gamespot and 1up all reviewing a platform for the games it is..

Why Cant a game simply be good. are you really gonna question a game like Masseffect 2 that got 9.5 from OXM because it's from OXM, knowing good and damn well that bioware makes amazing games, and Mass Effect is one of the greatest Games released this Gen.

The Summary page is basically a break down of what was presented in his review earlier. There wasn't a concreet pro and or con in the summary. We Knew Months ago there was no game on the market that was like this game I'm not expecting the game to be halo, god of war etc, but would it have killed him to point out one thing done fawlessly in the summary while maybe pointing out something that could have been improved? It is a summary right?

Nice score. Although I think it will get mixed reviews. It will be a love me or hate me thing because people will feel like it is too basic and simple, or people will think its new and ingenious. I'll probably pick it up but I don't think it will sell incredibly well because not too many people know about it or care to follow a game of its caliber.

I love the fact that Sony is trying to go in different directions with this game and it could be good for the industry as a whole, but I just don't think the gaming community will care too much about it. We'll see though.

I generally consider OPM's scores/reviews to be close to my own impressions.
Not that it really changes anything,Heavy Rain was always in my sighs regardless.This only helps to secure my purchase and confirm my initial impressions of the game.

It will be pretty hard giving a game like this a 10. Like told before, this is probably a hit or miss game. It's a relatively "new" (read: different) genre, with "new" ways of playing and interacting with the environment. Some will love it, but I afraid that many will buy it, only to find that this game doesn't suite their way of thinking how a game should be. (some like racing games, some like fps'. We are all different)
A lot of things has been hyped up before. Take PS Home as an example. Everybody was looking forward to it, the reviews told that this was the coolest thing ever, and look at it now: how many do use Home as it was intended to be used? How many found Home to be "not the thing they thought it was going to be"?

Anyways: Upcoming reviews of Heavy Rain, be them good, bad or mediocre, doesn't keep me from buying this game.. It really looks beautiful, the story seems intriguing and true, and it seems to have this dark, but nicely matched atmosphere.
Wether I play it through more than once is hard to say now. I could either love it, or it may not be my kind of game. Regardless, I admire QD for thinking "out of the box" and adding a new and different genre to todays fps-heavy gaming universe ..

the actual TEXT of the review. you know, the part of the review where the writer tells us useful things things like what the game is about, notable game play features, and his/her reasons for liking or disliking a game.

the score at the bottom of a review is ultimately worthless, and totally subjective and arbitrary.

for example, the game Second Sight from Free Radical, was moderately received, scoring in the 7/10s from most publications. me, personally, i LOVE that game, and think it's one of the best and most under-appreciated games of last generation. what makes this interesting, is that i actually AGREE with many of the reviewers thoughts on the game (like the controls being a little off, etc).

same thing with Indigo Prophecy. overall, it scored decently, but there were a few reviewers that commented on the weak 3rd act, and the awkward controls. i agree with them, despite thinking Indigo Prophecy is up there with Second Sight as one of the best games of last generation.

the TEXT of the review is infinitely more useful and informative than the score. unless you're Edge or Eurogamer, then the entire contents, score and all of your review are worthless (no amount of text can wash away blatant bias and hypocrisy/double standards).

this review of Heavy Rain is a positive one, not because of the score, but because of what the review said about the game:

"Certainly there's nothing quite like it on Ps3, or indeed any other system. Put gaming conventions aside, go in with no expectations other than this is something new and massively good-looking, and you'll be rewarded with a unique experience that lurches between genius and madness, manages to be genuinely emotional, and that you'll be bursting to talk about with your freinds."

to me, that little comment alone is worth more than any score you can slap at the bottom of the review.
