Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble Review | The Portable Gamer

TPG writes: "Kenka Bancho will beat your ass and you will like it. Well, not really. It won't actually beat your ass, and it's not a difficult game to play, by any means. But you WILL like it. This is a fascinating game, full of odd touches (giant banana suit, anyone?) and incomprehensible Japanese cultural references that are JUST out of reach of my own experience, lending this whole game an air of surreality mixed with a little hyperreatlity. When's the last time you grabbed a pork dumpling (which functions as a health potion) from a mini mart and had the clerk bow to you when you purchase it? For me, the answer is never. Until now."

Atlus sure has been turning out some badass games. We need more quality publishers like them!

squif5648d ago

Hell to the yeah. They are making video games fun again!

bgrundman5648d ago

With a name like that you better buy the game before they kick your ass!

wondroushippo5648d ago

And it's Atlus - they might actually go and kick your ass if you don't.

The Great Melon5648d ago

I remember voting for this name a long time ago when they were trying to figure out what to call it. Glad this title won. I always enjoy the games that Atlus brings over.

bgrundman5648d ago

I love the job that Altus has been doing localizing these previously release Japanese games.

wondroushippo5648d ago

It's pretty much Atlus' reason to exist - putting out cool games that we wouldn't play if they weren't around.

another great move from Atlas, just from the reveiw and pic you can tell its gunna be one bad ass game!

Gaming Nexus: Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble Review

Gaming Nexus writes: "Once upon a time there was a game called River City Ransom. On the surface this Technos game looked like any other 8-bit brawler, however it didn't take long to discover that this action game was incredibly ambitious. Instead of making you fight through levels that are straight out of a big budget action movie, this game took place around your home town. You were a bunch of teenagers exploring a series of inter-connecting areas, fighting gang members and saving the day."

GIN Review – Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble

GIN writes: "The beat-'em up (or "brawler") genre was one of the mainstays of the arcade and early consoles back in the late '80s and early '90s. The genre is rather basic. You controlled a character moving from one side of the screen to the other as you beat your opponents senseless. It was fun for awhile, but I found it to be repetitive. You always go the exact same way, fighting the same opponents with different colorings and pretty much using the same tactics. And do you want a story to go with it? Forget it, because it isn't and wasn't going to happen or magically appear. Atlus and its crew recently decided to show the world that beating the living daylights out of people is not dead. Welcome to the fictional world of Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble. And it's a pretty darn good game."
