ModNation Racers aims to avoid LBP's moderation fiasco

Nick @ PS3Center writes:

United Front Games, creators of the upcoming karting title ModNation Racers, have duly noted the controversy and aim to avoid any similar fiascoes with their entry into the 'Play, Create, Share' genre. When PS3Center quizzed them on their moderation plans for ModNation Racers, they responded they would be putting the "power of moderation into the hands of the community".

This game has the potential to be amazing. Hopefully it can attract the Mario Kart audience to the PS3.

I really hope it's the next CTR and NOT Speed Freaks. I'm really looking forward to karting being introduced on Playstation in such a big way.

FrankFoxJaegar5766d ago

Many said the same thing about LBP and attracting the Mario/platformer audience. Really, I think it's an unfair comparison. LBP and MNR both attract more of that user generated content audience like Spore, rather than a specific platformer/kart audience than people like to acknowledge.

So, it should definitely attract the LBP crew but not necessarily the racing fans.

FlatulentGhost5766d ago

Although I can't wait till this game gets released, I do think they screwed up with the art style for the characters. Not the style to attract the Nintendo/Little Big Planet crowd. The characters are borderline creepy looking.

Both the name "ModNation" and characters seem to be targeted at young boys. Perhaps unintentionally.

I think they really missed an opportunity to really hit a mass audience with this game like Little Big Planet and its Sackboys.

randomwiz5766d ago

Well, LBP didn't have much in common with Mario, except that they were both platformers.

But MNR and Mario kart have A LOT in common. And what would u rather go for? $250 system + mario kart with 32? tracks + mediocre online
or $299 system + modnation + god knows how many tracks + better online?

although, I do hope there's some type of mode other than racing like battle in Mario Kart.

gaffyh5766d ago

Top Gear racetrack in Modnation would be awesome.

RememberThe3575766d ago

Thats a great argument, but when your ten years old you don't really care about that crap.

You want the guy with nails in his head. That will probably be a better selling point.

As someone who's level got deleted on LBP, that really burned me out on the whole 'Play, Create, Share' thing. What's the point of pouring hours into your creation if it's just gonna be deleted?

Hopefully UFG lives up on this promise, cuz I'm liking it more and more. Can't wait for the full interview.

crazyturkey5766d ago (Edited 5766d ago )

To have bigger B@!!$, to just leave every level(track) created intact.

On a side note I'm pretty sure there's bound to be lots of levels based on the Mario Kart series.

FlipMode5766d ago

Must be getting to you huh?

Gabe EatsWell5766d ago (Edited 5766d ago )

If you're talking about BOREza 3 then yes I agree it doesn't look good.

FrankFoxJaegar5766d ago

Guess we'll see after the beta in December!

FrankFoxJaegar5766d ago

Wonder what's gonna happen when someone recreates Rainbow Road from Mario Kart? lol

Gen0ne5766d ago

The thought of it made me smile. The same way a well aimed green shell in the back of a friend's neck does. It's just too good.

Modnation Racers and LittleBigPlanet Karting Servers Shutting Down

Sony Interactive Entertainment will be shutting the servers down for two PS3 racing games in July.

Teflon022632d ago

Sad, hopefully they make a new Modnation racers game. wait, is it completely shutting down or can you still download tracks?

pody2631d ago

This is what I'm wondering also. There's so much quality maps available online and it would be unfortunate if people couldn't download those anymore.

Teflon022631d ago

Yeah, I didn't play much online anyways. But I always use to play local multi with my cousin and download so many amazing levels. Sadly 8 didn't get to platinum it. Had only the create trophy, level 30 and 100 races i think left. I had I believe 87 last time 8 checked lol. Might go on to see if I can get my last few lol. Remember my win ratio was decent since I did around 160 races maybe, 170 ranked

pody2630d ago

@Teflon02
Yeah same here, but I actually jumped in not too long ago to play again and it's still holds up great for a 8 year old game. It's was a really good game when it came out and it still is.

Chaos_Order2631d ago

I had some good memories playing Modnation. :( Sad to see it go, but it was inevitable.

ModNation Racers: The Forgotten Gem

There were plenty of notably excellent PlayStation 3 exclusives that were one-and-done during its long history. Games like Mag, Starhawk, Heavy Rain and LittleBigPlanet Karting were solid titles that were not given a chance to expand on their potential with sequels. Ironically, the developer of LittleBigPlanet Karting, United Front Games, had another kart racing title prior to this. Its first game, ModNation Racers, successfully implemented an aspect that wasn’t done previously and hasn’t been done since.

I loved this game, and it's a crying shame that the studio closed eliminating the possibility of a PS4/PS4 Pro Modnation game :(

XisThatKid2900d ago (Edited 2900d ago )

Imho this is my fav kart racer. I still play Everhart now and then to this day.
Other than load times the game was excellent

danny8182900d ago

game was great. However it felt soules Mario Kart. The load times on the game for Psvita were beyond horrible

S-Word2900d ago

Sony should've kept going with this instead of turning to LittleBigPlanet Karting.
