Mass Effect 2 Release Brought Forward to 2009

I was the same, except i saved Ashley because her and Wrex were my main powerhouse team. Never used Kaidan really. Was glad i put my paragon skill up so i could talk Wrex down though, my mate had to kill him. Is it bad that i didn't even batter an eyelid at the end when i killed the council? They just annoyed me all the way through so it was like "dont care..."

everything really came together nicely with the first mass effect.

*saved the rachni (most dramatic part of the game imho, just awesome)
*saved the colony
*saved wrex (he'd be pretty pissed if i didn't try, lol)
*saved the council
*saved ashley (but it's liara who i end up with)

ilos was my favorite part of the game, it was just so different from the rest of the game's levels. and the outside battle before saren was pretty awesome (climbing down the side of the elevator...wow).

GT5 could be a strong contender. Not only graphically, but from what I've heard it sounds to be one of the deepest entries into the franchise yet. I'm not a GoW fan so I'd have to take a wait and see on that.

It has to go against the title that achieved goty against the original which seems to have grown substancially as well bioshock 2.

I used the same argument last year in Bethesda (fallout 3) vs Epic (gears 2) and fallout got about as many game of the year awards as the overall game of the year mgs4 with gears pretty much not getting one. So this year i expect a similar outcome with bioshock 2 contending with another title (not mass effect) for the prizes, if it emulates 2007 its probably gonna be modern warfare 2. Although i expect it to be pretty much rpg of the year since jrpg dont get much love at goty nominations lately.

Albeit interesting the main problem with mass effect universe in the original is that it was heavily influenced by the companies previous work on Kotor which gave it a slight star wars clone feel. Looking at the information available they seem to want to break comparisons by making it darker and grittier but unless they do something drastic it seems to emulate the feel timeline. With mass effect 1 being episode 1 and/or 2 and this one being episode 3/4.

Anyway i expect it to be a great game but the use of unreal engine will take away the graphics factor, the use of bioware trademarked conversation system will score it less for innovation. However it will be redeemed by its revamped combat engine and great storyline so i expect AAA but no Goty)

ok I'm being a bit of a broken record here, but it really REALLY takes me out of a game sometimes when I get to some corny dialogue. which almost ALL games have in spades - except Mass Effect. 1st true console game for us 'grown-ups' with a brain IMO.

however, innovation seems to score lots of points with the GOTY judges. since ME2 will prob be more of the same as far as actual game mechanics, I think you're right that GOTY is not a sure thing.

I dont see any other game big enough on 360 or PS3 to stand up to ME2 this year.

Maybe Alan Wake if its as good as its sounds or GT5 if its comes out this year either than that...dont see any other PS3 exclusive or 360 exclusive (well we dont know whats coming).

alan wakes not out this year is it? Nd we dont know anything about the 360 version yet so i dont know, but uncharted 2 looks better than this imho. UC2s online looks amazing, its got it all, coop on and offline story mode coop an awesome singleplayer unique multiplayer modes youtube uploading and match recording, plus the graphics are unparalelled so far on consoles :) so i dont think any1 should jump on the ME2 goty bandwagon just yet, does it have MP btw? And be honest dude, KZ2 had a huge impact, its got as much if not more chance of being goty 09. The MP was amazing, im still in my clan nd it keeps pulling me back to it. GFX outstanding, SP satisgying, yet not outstanding, MP outstanding so yeah it does

Mass Effect has one of the best stories,sublime characters and deepest universes that i have ever seen in a videogame and Mass Effect 2 looks to top the original in everway possible and also eliminate the only problem ME had which were framerate and some other technical issues.

To say that a game is better than that just because it has multiplayer and (lol) youtube upload is just hilarious.I can't remember Bioshock having all those features when it was winning all those awards back in 07.And pls don't even go there with Killzone 2.

As for GOTY, i am not going to make any predictions until E3 is over because we might just see a few contenders pop up.

I havn't played through the first one yet as i mentioned above, but after reading the reviews and hearing about it - i'd say it was a contender.

If god of war 3 comes out this year, then for me - even if i play mass effect 2 then god of war 3 will more than likely be my goty. It is my second most anticipated game this generation (Behind MGS4).

I'll have to pick up mass effect again, really want to get into it.

The problem is that "great lineup" will be able to be played on the PC for the most part.

The 360 has nothing exclusive or compelling about it. You know me Mart, I love my 360 but you gotta admit it. MS's lack of commitment and their philosophy of making a quick buck with investing the cheapest way they can is catching up with them. I hope MS blows the rough off E3 and proves my statements wrong but all the predictions and rumors are giving me the impression it's going to be a lot like last year with mediocre multiplats hidden amongst a new Zune announcement and more worthless services that I would take AAA quality games over any day. Well, I own a PS3 and 360 (and Wii), and as I've mentioned a few times on this site... 2009 has been a BIG disappointment for the 360 so far (IMHO).

The growing list of games for the 360 is starting to perk my interest in the console - but MS will have to do a lot to impress me.

I don't agree with condensing the gaming year in to the last 3 months as MS seem to be doing - so I'm happy I have a few PS3 and PS2 games to keep me going.

Hopefully MS will not only show some good titles for 2009, but also enough for Q1/2 of 2010 as well.

oh!.....thought it would release this winter anyways? will be 2 yrs since the 1st one by then, and using the same (hopefully improved version) UE3 engine... sound's possible. Kind of hope they make this a 2 disc game, loved the first one, played through it almost 3 times but stopped on the 3rd as the sidequests were getting lame and the planets to explore were pretty barren. just hoping they up the content, 2 discs or not. I knew this couldn't be. Bioware is currently slated to release another RPG on Oct 20th in Dragon Age : Origins. That would leave scant little time to release another AAA game full of all the marketing goodies. While i would LOVE to have 2 top quality Bioware RPG's in the same year, I would have a tough time thinking up an excuse to take take that much time off from work.

I love Mass Effect, top 5 games on the XBox imho, but I don't know about GOTY. I'm not even sure about past GOTY. So I never pay attention to it. You shouldn't either.

But if you have to have it, they should do it by genre if at all possible. I can accept Mass Effect being the RPGOTY.
