Devil Summoner 2 is a solid, competent, well-made, and occasionally lazy sequel that fans of both the franchise and the genre will love, though it might occasionally annoy more casual fans. The story is fantastic, the presentation is solid, and the gameplay has been improved in many key regards. There's plenty to see and do, and plenty of reasons to come back for more as well. This makes the game worth playing through not just once, but several times, if you like what it does. Unfortunately, it carries over a lot of elements from Devil Summoner 1 that either could have stood to be freshened up or didn't need to be carried over at all.
Some of the changes it made won't appeal to everyone. Devil Summoner 2 really is worth playing, and probably is worth owning, but it doesn't really manage to be anything more than "good." While that's not at all a bad thing, it's kind of disappointing that it isn't more advanced and enhanced than it is.
HD versions of Sega and Atlus' action role-playing games, Devil Summoner 1 and 2, appear to be headed to PC.
Amazing couple of games with that classic Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Art Style. The good Art Style. Heavily underrated and in need of a sequel for sure.
I would love for it to be a mixture of Souls-like mechanics (bonfires, souls left behind when dead, item description, etc.) and Dungeon/world designs, with the Yakuza style of serious main quest and humorous and goofy side quests, all wrapped in Ghostwire: Tokyo style of graphics, presentation, First Person spectacle, and Neon Soaked City.
And speaking of Ghostwire: Tokyo, where's the Maken X sequel at Atlus?
Shit, so many good stuff Atlus and Sega have left go down by the wayside in favor of some really mediocre games and what feels like infinite re-releases and remakes and...
Pity.
The digital PS3 version of Mass Effect Trilogy has dropped to $4.49. Odin Sphere, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha versus King Abaddon, Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga, Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 and Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 are also on sale for $4.99 each.
$4.50 for the Mass Effect Trilogy?! I would jump on that if I didn't already have the game. I also own all of these Atlus titles physically, and I think I did get the digital version of Persona 4 just to support the digital release/have it on my PS3, even though I think my PS2 is still the most authentic way to play it. Granted, Golden is the definitive version IMHO with maybe one minor point in favour of the original. Perhaps I should open up a Tracy Rooney vs. Erin Fitzgerald discussion right here for my own amusement, but derailing the Internet can't be that easy, can it?
The PlayStation 2 game Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon is going to be released next week on the North American PSN as a PS2 classic
thank u Atlus for giving us all the games digitally. Scalpers online try to overcharge for the disc versions.
