Renowned video game composer duo Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan have created the original musical score for Ubisoft's TMNT video game based on the CGI feature-length film starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles®. Developed by Ubisoft's Montreal and Quebec City Studios, the TMNT video game is rated E10+ and available now at North American retailers.
Drawing on their diverse musical references, Velasco and Dikiciyan have composed a cinematic, action-driven score that encompasses orchestral, rock and break beats to match the acrobatic navigation, collaborative combat and powerful, fast fighting moves of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
As characters from the movie and the original comic book series creep out of the shadows to face the Turtles, Velasco and Dikiciyan's music captures the sinister landscape of New York City and immerses players in the intense video game adventure. The composers deliver a mélange of bass-driven electronic synths and orchestral swells with an overlay of raw guitar punches, staccato beats and Asian-flavored melodies.
There are tons of great games that have been overlooked in the mass of more popular titles. And I don’t just mean underrated games, either. We’re talking about grossly underrated and underappreciated titles in otherwise well-regarded franchises.
FINALLY someone who acknowledges the greatness of Gremlins 2 NES!! One of my favorite movie tie-in games of all times. I have fond memories of both the game and the movie from when I was a kid. I was playing it again just a couple of months ago, and it still holds up very, very well!
I rarely see people mention Gremlins 2 when discussing great NES games and I love you for that!
*edit - Sunsoft really was a fantastic studio. Another favorite, underrated late NES game from them was Batman Return of the Joker. It was so much better than the SNES version too. Something about it died in the effort towards upgrading the graphics and music. The NES version felt darker, moodier.
Kabuki Quantum Fighters was a Nick Arcade classic. Never played it but the name has stuck with me to this day because of that show.
With Sunsoft you knew you were getting good graphics and music,
Personal honorable mentions to Faxanadu and Crystalis.
I dont know if its been underrated, but kung fu master was such a awesome game on the nes. Even if it couldnt compare with the arcade version in graphics, the gameplay was so amasing. Awesome sound effects too. Played it for countless hours....
When you think of perfect arcade titles, your mind is likely to go to a certain beat ’em up called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, aka TMNT: The Arcade Game.
The amount of £1 coins I put in this game as a kid. Up there with streetfighter II and final fight for me. Classic arcade goodness.
It was almost 30 years ago that the NES classic, love it or hate it, hit stores. With the new series on the way, what better time than to recommend 4 of the best TMNT games of all time, each one representing a member of the team.
Absolutely love side scrolling beat em ups, have the turtles and many more on my arcade cab:)
