Star Trek: D-A-C to be Xbox 360 "Timed Exclusive"

Not sure if many people picked up on this from the official press release but the anticipated Star Trek Xbox LIVE Arcade title will be released first on the Xbox 360, and "shortly thereafter" on the Playstation 3 network and Windows PC. How long could it be? Will it matter? Why is Microsoft getting yet another exclusive away from Sony?

"Paramount Digital Entertainment, Bad Robot Interactive, CBS and Naked Sky Entertainment today announced the launch of Star Trek: D-A-C, coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft this May, and to PlayStation®Network and Windows PC shortly thereafter. Inspired by the upcoming "Star Trek" movie from Paramount Pictures, Star Trek: D-A-C is a fast-paced, top-down space shooter where players take the captain's chair and engage in intense online multi-player or co-op battles. Pick up and play, then lead your team to victory."

This will go well with the Home uniforms. I don't know why there is a delay with the PS3 and PC versions though.

Why MS continues to waste money on this timed exclusive BS is beyond me. Any game that says "Only on XBOX" is a complete farce and a gamer would be better off waiting and getting it on the PS3 or PC later with extra features. If it's not 1st party with MS then it is not a true exclusive and will be available on other platforms at some point and be a better version. MS needs to focus on 1st party studios and games instead of this timed exclusive crap. What a joke they are and a bunch of liars with the "Only on Xbox" on games that aren't true exclusives.

... I thought they were modeling a portion of the PSN around this. Or is that another game?

If the delay between releases isn't long they might have a chance of a sale or two, but if they try to hold the PS3 version for months they might as well not even waste the time bringing it at all because games released much later on any system never sell.

A look at the unfortunate history of Star Trek video games

While the trend seems to be reversing in recent years, the overall feeling about tie-in video games is that they tend to be underwhelming, un-appealing, and poorly made. Historically, this has been quite the case with those developed around Gene Roddenberry's 'Star Trek' mythos.

Star Trek Games Cosplay Gallery

VGC: "One of the most popular movie and television franchises to make the jump to video games happens to be the one with the most dedicated fans anywhere. I'm of course talking about Star Trek and its many variations including The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, as well as the movies and spin-offs (we rarely include Enterprise). So it wasn't difficult to look at Star Trek when picking a topic for a video game cosplay gallery. Below you'll find some of the best Star Trek cosplayers dressed up as recognizable (and fan-fic) characters."

They should include Enterprise, if only for Jolene Blalock.

Voyager was actually decent, seven of 9.

Hmmm, so I can pick one gallery from that site, and post it as news here, and I get approval?

GameOn: Star Trek: DAC PC Review

GameOn writes: "It's hard to put your finger on just what Star Trek: DAC was trying to achieve as a game, as it could quite simply be any generic space shooter. This one simply had the blessing of licenses to use the Star Trek ships, names and any other references to the Star Trek universe. It's not until you make the link between this and the recent rejuvenation of the Star Trek film series, that you realise it was simply a ploy to generate some buzz about the return of the franchise to the big screen."
