The DS conversion of that source material – while still very commendable – could have been even better after seeing some of Square's other works on the platform. With that being said, DQV: Hand of the Heavenly Bride is a must-own game for anyone that calls themselves an RPG fan – it's just that good.

The Hachiko writes: "Besides Final Fantasy, throughout the years the Dragon Quest franchise has proven itself to be one of the best RPG franchises around. When you mix a traditional old school RPG system with the charming character designs by Akira Toriyama (of Dragonball fame), you get yet another classic in the series. Making its way to the North American audiences for the first time in history, it's yet another great game deserving of the Dragon Quest lineage."
MyDS writes: "The DS remake of DQ4: HotHB originally on the Super Famicom does a fantastic job of updating the game, with some gorgeous and amusing character designs and a couple of new additions that make the game feel like new. Its quaint and familiar coming-of-age story doesn't break any ground, but it is well told and it's clear that the localization folks put a lot of love into crafting clever dialogue. The only place the game hasn't seen a suitable adjustment is in its slow and laborious climb through levels. The game demands a devotion that old-time RPG fanatics will be familiar with. Other players may balk at the intense grind necessary to progress."
According to their GDC presentation, here are the top-selling video games from Level-5.
I never realized Dark Cloud sold a million.Wow.
Also I easily knew Dragon Quest VIII is their most successful game.
O man "Jeanne d’Arc (PSP) - 220,000 World Wide"- this game deserved so much more than this :(
Dark Cloud 2 also deserves way more than 900k, that game is so awesome, i finished it 3 times, don't remember when i last did with any game. For me that was/is Sonys Zelda.
so why havent we heard anything about a new Dark Cloud since obviously Level 5 has a large fanbase? And Im sure Sony would be glad to publish the game...
Nice. I can't wait. This, DQ6, DQ9, Kingdom Hearts, and GTA; Chinatown wars and must haves IMO for the DS in 2009.
I largely missed out on the earlier DQ games because I was too young at the time, and being able to play them in updated fashion is great.
It is nice to be able to play these DQ games finally in english!
Only DQ I-IV, VII, and VIII made it outside of Japan. It's very cool V and VI are finally coming out over here :)
