People really be hating for the sake of it. Yeesh.

RaidenBlack15h ago

Already got so many turn based franchises converted to real time. Even got Baldur's Gate III.

neutralgamer19924h ago

I don't like turn based combat but I am. Willing to try it. Some people just hate for no reason. I mean if I don't like a game I can ignore it why do I need to spread hate

-Foxtrot15h ago

Funny because these are probably the same people Square Enix try to please with new mainline FF games.

gold_drake14h ago

god, review bombers are some of the lowest scumbags of the internet

isarai13h ago

That's pathetic. I don't like turn-based games but I don't hate them. It just doesn't do anything for me. I can still acknowledge that this is. Looks like an amazing game. WTF is wrong with people? Lol

UK Sales Charts: Expedition 33 Debuts in Second Place, Almost All Sales for PS5 Version

The UK's physical sales charts for last week are here, and it's more good news for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

The RPG has debuted at number two, only trumped by Hogwarts Legacy, which has been top for several weeks in a row.

Furthermore, 96 per cent of the copies sold were for PS5 — perhaps not as shocking a statistic when you remember the game launched on Game Pass on Xbox systems, but in the realm of physical sales, that's quite the gulf.

Geez.

I don't even know how to put it.

I mean, yeah, ok, that's just impressive.

While still remembering times when Xbox discs were on par or even sold more than Playstation's in the UK.

jznrpg10h ago

Proud of those 4 percent of Xbox players supporting games with their wallet and going physical. Not a joke.

Relientk7712h ago

Good! I'm glad Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 got a strong debut. We'll deserved and I hope it continues to sell well.

shadowT12h ago

96%... maybe there was no Xbox disc available?

While we’re at it, Maybe 50% of those wanted to buy it for Xbox but accidentally bought the PS5 version instead and will be taking it back to the store to exchange it in the coming days.

Scissorman10h ago

This is why devs praise being on Game Pass. They know that the Xbox install base won't buy their game anyway, and they get a nice payout upfront. It's a complete win win.

mkis00710h ago

This game could have made more if it wasn't on gamepass. Only under the radar ones benefit that much from gamepass.

dveio10h ago

I'd guess they saw the potential of the game and paid Sandfall a very (!) good amount of compensation before-hand.

Bathyj10h ago

More likely they were taking the safe option and getting a payout up front in case it didn't sell and now they are regretting it as it could have been a big hit .

who knows that ratio could have been closer to 60 40 had it not been on Game pass

MrNinosan8h ago

The ratio will never be 60/40, not even close whatever game it is.

If this game wasn't on GamePass, the ratio would in best case scenario reach maybe 90/10.

1. Playstation install base is more than double (almost triple of Xbox).
2. Xbox gamers don't tend to spend as much money on games
3. Jrpgs are still way more popular on the Playstation consoles than on Xbox.

We’re Living In The Era Of Pretty-Em-Ups, But Clair Obscur Isn't One

Many triple-A games are emphasizing graphics over depth. Not Clair Obscur.

God if War is a great game. I really enjoyed Callisto Protocol. Why do lame journos always try to knock games? I like variety. I like open world, I like linear games, I like story games, I like action games.
You don’t have to pit different style of games against each other to try and make one look better. You could make an article saying we need more turn based games and I would agree. There is so much negativity in the gaming space. Why not try telling us why this game stands on its own merits instead of shitting on other games? But Negativity gets clicks and that’s all you care about even though it’s hurting gaming.

Dhika14h ago

“ There is so much negativity in the gaming space. ”
Agreed and it IS a problem.

Inverno14h ago

I don't think there's as much negativity as people are being led to believe. I think there's a lot of emphasis on the very hateful/spiteful but small group of gamers. Over the years I've noticed that criticism gets lumped into the hateful speech and devs/publishers completely ignore valid criticism. Harder still for people with valid criticism to be heard when mainstream buys up everything blindly. The gaming industry is not in a good place at all with all these anti consumer bs that keeps being pushed.

Lexreborn214h ago

Anytime I see an author/person start comparing other games. I lose interest, I don’t need you to knock or drag some other game to elevate another. I just want to know about THE GAME IM INTERESTED IN!

StarcrossedBits13h ago

“There is so much negativity in the gaming space. ”
The sad truth is that negativity gets hits, so bad sites (like The Gamer, which is one of the worst examples) uses 'hot takes' to get hits and thus make money. I've run a few sites over the years and it was frustrating that a thoughtful positive piece would get a quarter of the hits of a sloppy negative piece.
One of those makes money, one of them doesn't. Eventually people either leave gaming journalism (like I did) or they lean into it and tell themselves they're keeping the industry honest or something so that they can sleep at night.

Profchaos9h ago

Yeah even among gaming fans people hate others for being excited about things they don't like no matter how little.

It's like someone saying hey I liked forspoken

And it's met with your a piece of s***t and you suck because your funding bad things in the industry

Armaggedon7h ago

Its perception. People view certain aspects of gaming to be superior to others. I try to appreciate games for their unique, virtually irreplicable traits and features.

TheColbertinator5h ago

Typically the negative people are the loudest and have the largest platforms like Youtube and Instagram promoting their content to the level of pop superstars. Unfortunately publishers and the gaming press listen to them most.

I’m confused. The author complains about linearity experiences in these games that are pretty… and then praises Expedition 33 for linearity and neglects that it’s also a looker? Also, the phrase Pretty-‘Em-Ups is absolutely stupid.

StarcrossedBits13h ago

Poorly thought out opinions that read like GenAI Slop is kind of The Gamer's brand.

--Onilink--11h ago

I don’t know if I would really call Clair Obscure a “looker”, Artistically its pretty amazing, but on a technical level it 100% feels like a last gen game that can be maxed out on PC.

But lightning, shadows, especially textures (those can be quite bad for some things), etc, they can be pretty average looking

Not that I’m necessarily complaining, good art direction will almost always trumps over those things specially if its a matter of prioritizing other areas like gameplay or story(which this game definitely does)

HyperMoused9h ago

If i wasnt playing Oblivion this is what i would be playing, will defnitely be getting this in future

gigoran854m ago

don't make Pretty-Em-Up a thing. it's not a thing.
