Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (PS5) - Daring, Quirky RPG Is an Absolute Must-Play - Push Square

Push Square: "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the most refreshing and original RPGs in years, even if it’s not immediately obvious from the outside looking in. The intriguing setup expands to provide an engrossing, excellent narrative with lovable and charismatic characters. The exemplary combat goes above and beyond its turn-based traditions with flashy fights and new ways to damage. This is the kind of experience that proves there’s still so much potential and creativity in the bigger-budget video game space — Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is simply sublime."

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 PC Optimized Settings & Performance

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the second Unreal Engine 5-powered title to launch this week. The game leverages the entire UE5 suite, including Lumen, Nanite, Niagara, and Virtual Shadows. Despite that, it runs better than the Oblivion Remake. Perhaps due to its smaller environments and aggressive culling rate.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sales top 500,000

Total sales for turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have surpassed 500,000 units just one day after release, publisher Kepler Interactive and developer Sandfall Interactive announced.

im glad it has the success it deserves.

See? When developers are PROUD of their sales they tell us their sales numbers. Not how many 'players' they have for a single player game. Capcom tells us sales too and so does Sony. Others are slightly ashamed of their sales numbers, or they care too much what everyone will think so they choose to tell us a misleading prettier number to make it seem more successful than it really is. It's so obvious.

Same goes for console sales numbers. MS used to tell us their numbers until they weren't proud of them anymore.

I am so going to play this game. But at the moment there is just too much to play for the rest of the year. I'm going to have to hold off for now BUT I'm going to buy it now to show support.

Why does this article have to be used to push this damn agenda?

Just be happy for the devs ffs without having to fan the dramatic flames of console warring

Redemption-643h ago

Let it go. Using this to take shot at other games/companies is pure stupidity and desperate. Companies such as Microsoft, EA and Ubisoft also want you to subscribe to their services. The more people subscribe, the more money they can also make from mtx.

SP FTW! I have nothing else to add
I pick mine up just an hour ago. Can’t wait for later to try it out

"Capcom tells us sales too and so does Sony."

Yeah? How many Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Until Dawn sales were sold again?

Bring those numbers by Sony. I´ll wait.

So?
I suggest you focus on the pre-orders of the Switch 2 and prepare an excuse or two when they will sell like crazy, since you were so adamant it won't be selling like the original switch 😅.

Make great games that aren't taking advantage of your consumers and it will do well. That's more true in today's gaming since so many companies are making anti consumer greedy decisions

I'm glad aswell

I guess people will realise that Square Enix's argument of "turn based doesn’t sell" is a load of bulls**t. The whole thing is even more impressive with it being a new IP and made by super small team.

VersusDMC47m ago

500k sales isn't really proving anything to square enix. FFXVI reached 3 million in 6 days...so any number below that isn't really proving anything.

But good for sandfall and let's see where the sales are in a week.

It's 500k sales so far. calm down haha 😅

Glad as well. Turn Based RPG's still have a place in the games industry.

FACTUAL evidence4h ago

Always had a place in the industry. Unfortunately RPGs as a whole were getting over looked by big territories like US and EU due to the FPS/call of duty phase in gen 7-8. People became twitchy and wanted fast action, but the original fans of turned based was always there, just slightly neglected. I’ve been saying Lost odyssey was a blueprint for modern turned based RPGs.

Relientk775h ago

Awesome! I got my copy yesterday. It's great so far! I'm excited to play it more this weekend. I hope it continues to sell well.

Bhuahahaha5h ago

1st game i bought at launch date this year 😁

FACTUAL evidence4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Lol well I got the Suikoden game launch day. I also got E33 launch, yesterday, April 24th 2025. I went into gamestop(which I never shop at) and saw a long line of people and didn’t know what was going on. Long story short, found out the line was for the switch 2 pre orders, I had to wait behind 60 people just to buy Expedition 33, so I was like, may as well pre order the switch 2 as well smh. Ain’t gunna lie, resale purposes only if my niece doesn’t want it lol.

The_Hooligan22m ago

Haha Same. The last game I bought on launch day was Astro Bot and now this. Going through ff16 right now and it's DLC so once I'm done with that this is next. Can't wait.

harv0525h ago

Absolutely deserved and I hope more people will get on board! This is a passion project and it shows! And for a new IP AND a brand new studio it's bloody well done!!
