TNS: During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the company unveiled the new GameChat function that, while useful, should be free for everyone.

Seriously... Chat services being part of a online subscription isn't new Xbox has done this since the original Xbox in the early 2000s PlayStation since the ps4.

And guess what NSO is the cheapest online service of all consoles so are you going to write an article complaining about that to

franwex16d ago

One may chat on Xbox for free. I have spoken with friends that only play free to play games.

Hypertension14016d ago

@franwex

It's the same for Playstation. They should at least allow it for free to play games.

^

Yeah, was going to say I'm pretty sure it's not locked behind a paywall on PS.

I rarely use it, but I have a buddy that subscribes to PS Plus on an ad hoc basis and he quite frequently pings me for a chat.

Stop spreading misinformation, party chat is free on both Sony and MS sustems.

Notellin15d ago

No party chat is free like everyone else has stated. I don't pay for either service and chat on both consoles every time that I play.

gold_drake17d ago

did it look fine tho? cause that looked and sounded like a hot mess.

especially when u think about the connection you'd need.

but yeh, nintendo.

Relientk7717d ago

If by 'fine' you mean lag city, then yeah it was fine.

PRIMORDUS16d ago

Don't care about the chat feature I don't use that shit anyway.

I love how Nintendo gets away with looks fine in 2025. And lets be honest it didn't look fine. It looked outdated & greedy.

Everyone wants a cheaper switch 2 and games

Vits7h ago

But of course, it's around 30% cheaper when compared to the global model. That kind of price difference really makes it hard to ignore. Even I would be interested in getting one, and I barely speak Japanese.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders cause havoc after going live in the US, just like they did in Japan

For some, Target's website crashed from heavy traffic, while others had better luck with Best Buy and Walmart's virtual queues.

ZeekQuattro21h ago

At one point I had 5 tabs on my browser with different stores. I was in a line queues in all of them and still came up short. I'm shocked at Best Buy the most. I had luck with them mutiple times in the past. Not this time. They were the worst offender. I'll get the system eventually but I ain't going through that again anytime soon. 😆

I got on the waiting line on Walmart and it took an hour of trying and finally lucked out and got one.

__SteakDeck__13h ago

@Jin_Sakai People needed to stay in line on Walmart. After an house I got one. Hopefully they don’t cancel.

thorstein9h ago

I tried to buy straight from Nintendo. I signed up for the prebuy.

I got an email yesterday saying I could buy it after launch. After they talked all that shit about avoiding scalpers.

“People needed to stay in line on Walmart. After an house I got one. Hopefully they don’t cancel.“

Yea the waiting screen was dumb it showed no indication you’re in line so most people give up. I waited an hour and finally got in and was able to purchase one. I had to click the pre order button 100 times before it went thru though. Lol

Snookies1218h ago

I actually secured 3 pre-orders of the MK World bundle... No, I'm not scalping them. Just had to grab one for my Cousin and possibly my best friend as well if he wants it. Since their jobs would assuredly get in the way of them even attempting a pre-order.

Easiest by far was just going to Gamestop in person when they opened up today. Got there like 5 minutes before they opened and they still had a few left after I left. Got the other two at midnight from Target's app and Walmart queue. I also wanted insurance that one of my online orders wouldn't get cancelled or something.

Actually the situation in Japan is VERY unique and different to America.

Every single retailer is doing lotteries....meaning you apply to get one and if you are lucky you get an invite. Usually it takes about a week or so to find out.

Also Japan has 2 models. The Japanese only model for ¥50,000 and the "international" model for ¥70,000. The expensive model is only available directly from Nintendo.

Luckily I won the lottery for the international model. Since you are only allowed to apply for one, most Japanese gamers are applying for the cheaper model making it much easier to buy the expensive one.
