Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders Starts April 2 According to Retailer

Best Buy Canada has given a date on when the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will start, and it's the same day as the Direct show.

I'm not sensing a lot of excitement about the Switch 2. It feels like a Switch Pro. Maybe it will sell really well, but I would not be surprised at all if it didn't sell even at 70% of the rate that Switch 1 did

Jin_Sakai28d ago

I’m sure it will be great and I’ll be picking one up for sure but did anyone really expect it to sell as well as the OG Switch?

ZycoFox28d ago

Well it depends on the games..

I expect for Mario Kart at least, to be another rehash.. Seriously only DS did anything new with the mission mode, there's no meaty SP game in any of them.. it's kind of shallow when you look at it that way.

I wish they wouldn't be so lazy with some of their first party titles.

JEECE28d ago

Gosh 70% of the Switch's sales would be so good lol. I agree they are going to struggle to get some people to understand why they should upgrade, but I think it will be more of a DS to 3DS ratio rather than a Wii to Wii U situation.

COVID-19 helped Nintendo a lot, it was perfecting timing releasing Animal Crossing in 2020 as well. Sony and MS had manufacturing issues back then and couldn't keep up with demand, which helped Nintendo even more (even though they couldn't keep up with demand as well).

Switch 2 may not sell as well as Switch 1, but with exclusive Mario Kart, Mario platformer, and Zelda games, it's going to sell quite well.

lukasmain28d ago

But all those games will be playable on Switch 1. So again, I don't sense the excitement among the majority of the Switch fans. And they are the casual fans.

CrimsonWing6928d ago

Well the unveil they did, didn’t really excite me at all. In fact, you could’ve said that was a Switch 1 Pro and I’d have believed you. However, it’s the games, man.

I want to see a PS3/PS4 looking Fire Emblem

Told myself I'd buy a switch when either Metroid P4 came out or the switch got a price cut .... neither of which happened lol . I'm gonna get a S2 a gorge myself stupid on all the games I've missed especially all the Xenoblade games as I always wanted to play them since Xenogears is my favorite game of all time . I hear those new Zelda games are quite something haha , haven't played a zelda game since Wind Waker and I want to replay Links Awakening remake which was the first Zelda game I ever played on gameboy ,

Everyone wants a cheaper switch 2 and games

Vits14h ago

But of course, it's around 30% cheaper when compared to the global model. That kind of price difference really makes it hard to ignore. Even I would be interested in getting one, and I barely speak Japanese.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders cause havoc after going live in the US, just like they did in Japan

For some, Target's website crashed from heavy traffic, while others had better luck with Best Buy and Walmart's virtual queues.

ZeekQuattro1d 4h ago

At one point I had 5 tabs on my browser with different stores. I was in a line queues in all of them and still came up short. I'm shocked at Best Buy the most. I had luck with them mutiple times in the past. Not this time. They were the worst offender. I'll get the system eventually but I ain't going through that again anytime soon. 😆

Jin_Sakai23h ago

I got on the waiting line on Walmart and it took an hour of trying and finally lucked out and got one.

__SteakDeck__20h ago

@Jin_Sakai People needed to stay in line on Walmart. After an house I got one. Hopefully they don’t cancel.

thorstein16h ago

I tried to buy straight from Nintendo. I signed up for the prebuy.

I got an email yesterday saying I could buy it after launch. After they talked all that shit about avoiding scalpers.

Yea the waiting screen was dumb it showed no indication you’re in line so most people give up. I waited an hour and finally got in and was able to purchase one. I had to click the pre order button 100 times before it went thru though. Lol

Snookies121d 1h ago

I actually secured 3 pre-orders of the MK World bundle... No, I'm not scalping them. Just had to grab one for my Cousin and possibly my best friend as well if he wants it. Since their jobs would assuredly get in the way of them even attempting a pre-order.

Easiest by far was just going to Gamestop in person when they opened up today. Got there like 5 minutes before they opened and they still had a few left after I left. Got the other two at midnight from Target's app and Walmart queue. I also wanted insurance that one of my online orders wouldn't get cancelled or something.

Actually the situation in Japan is VERY unique and different to America.

Every single retailer is doing lotteries....meaning you apply to get one and if you are lucky you get an invite. Usually it takes about a week or so to find out.

Also Japan has 2 models. The Japanese only model for ¥50,000 and the "international" model for ¥70,000. The expensive model is only available directly from Nintendo.

Luckily I won the lottery for the international model. Since you are only allowed to apply for one, most Japanese gamers are applying for the cheaper model making it much easier to buy the expensive one.
