Would have been much better surely to announce the competition to be in the game alongside Bethesda making a donation to MAW. This way smacks of choosing the cheapest possible option.
This is just another way to make as much money as possible. I don't like it but they may be setting a precedent with this offer just like they did when they released the horse Armor dlc with the elder scrolls 4.

“Gamers didn’t want outrageously complex character sheets in 2011” is BS. It is an excuse for them catering to casuals.
They could just make some presets for a couple of popular archetypes and still have an advanced character creator/stats at the same time, seems like a good middle of the road without having to compromise on the complexity. A lot of games do something similar.

Gamers are increasing in ineptitude as time goes on, so yeah, they are right.
It's funny because this guy has leant way into the extreme here.
No one is saying we want old school character sheets and the like, we just don't want the game to be so streamlined and casual. As they got on with Skyrim and Fallout 4, the perks and levelling up become so easy, I'd rather have a refined perk system that we saw in Fallout 3 than what we got in Fallout 4.
If you were smart and tactical then sure, you could become powerful but that was part of the appeal as it showed you experimented a lot
In Oblivion I went through the sewer tutorial like 6 times just to get my character right, in Skyrim I did it once because I knew I could master everything anyway.
When I found out that races don't matter, I never picked this game up.
If Elder Scrolls 6 has races that are purely cosmetic, I won't be playing that either.
Its true, they didn’t. Writing was not something that was so heavily weighed upon until the last of us and after. Now, all I hear are people complaining about starfields writing…..when Bethesda have never had solid writing
They can say what they want we all know Baldur’s Gate 3 intimidated the fk out of them because they set the bar too high for them to reach with their lack of passion.
The irony is that Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim will continue to get mods long after the release of TES VI that'll have more depth than anything Bethesda will ever make. People just don't wanna see that the AAA industry is mostly casual bait at this point.
Dude interviewed was a former Dev left in 2021.
But give how Bethesda is operating, they don't know how to do complex Rpgs mechanics.
Former lead developer on their most successful game to date. Doubt a lot of how they make games changed in 3 years.
