If true looks like Sony will have a stacked 26. If they do a showcase it will be trailers for games that we know about with a 2026 release.

Good to hear Fairgames is shaping up well internally and has positive reception.

isarai68d ago

Oooh a Showcase? Those are the big ones.

Couldn't care less about fairgames 🤷‍♂️

Ratchet2367d ago

I'll be surprised if fairgames does not get cancelled or end up as a free 2 play game

-Foxtrot67d ago

Clearly Concords failure has shifted priorities internally for games like this

I’m really curious how they handle it, they literally bought Haven studios based on just this game, it’s crazy.

gamewalt4267d ago

Good until then I’ll be playing game pass games but dropping that once Sony releases its games love having all consoles.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88112d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z112d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

After Concord’s Implosion A Scary Spotlight Turns To ‘Marathon’ And ‘Fairgame$’

Concord is now cemented as not just an unfortunate release, but quite literally one of the biggest failures in gaming history. Can Marathon and Fairgame$ succeed instead?

Obscure_Observer232d ago

If Sony learned anything from Concord´s epic failure, is that in a scenario where those games won´t feature a single player mode to warrant a price tag, they must make those upcoming GaaS games free to play on release and available on most platforms as possible.

darthv72232d ago

Hey now... this game could get its 'Fortnite' comeback... you never know.

Cacabunga232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

sony Bend also making one gaas. Only hoping they can it before it’s too late like ND did

TheEroica231d ago

You think Sony is gonna throw good money at bad money by doubling down on Concord? They're gonna spend more millions turning it into a F2P game with a double digit player base? I'd wager this is concords launch party and farewell tour all wrapped up in the same month.

Lightning77232d ago

The F2P model needs to be built around the game's mechanics, systems and monetization purposes. In this Case it isn't as easy as Flipping a switch.

Obscure_Observer232d ago

"The F2P model needs to be built around the game's mechanics, systems and monetization purposes. In this Case it isn't as easy as Flipping a switch."

I know it´s not a easy task. But if Forza Motorsport 7´s developers at Turn 10 could make it and got rid of the infamous loot boxes post-launch, Sony most definitely can make such changes and adjustments prior release.

Keep in mind that none of those games have a release date yet, so plenty of time to work things out.

just_looken232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

Not that easy the gaas market is flooded then you got concord vs deadlock/marvel rivals soon if they toss it back out there going against a known ip and a company with a good reputation.

Marathon well that is bungie that already has had and is having firing waves a leader that spend cash on cars instead of the dev team and well look at destiny right now.

You think marathon a extraction shooter can it beat delta force cod next bf tarkov or that new tarkov like game that was tossed out in beta few months back forget the name.

Again though crowed market with a team that is shrinking a leader that has 0 f's to give.

Eonjay232d ago

Agreed. Although Helldivers 2 proved that there is always exception.

TheEroica231d ago

Good on you Sony/pc gamers for rejecting horrible GaaS games. If we bond together we can get the industry back on track.

I think Marathon has a good chance, but I'd be very surprised if Fairgame$ turns out to be a success, looks even more bland and generic than Concord.

darthv72232d ago

Marathon has a legacy branding attached to it. It will be radically different than the original but that is the allure of bringing back a title from long ago. How well they update it while throwing in some nods to that legacy.

isarai232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

Exactly, that's why I say i think it has a good chance. Plus say what you will about Destiny and Bungie, one thing you can't deny is they still have talent for satisfying gunplay. It has some serious GAAS fatigue going against it, but everything else seems positive for the game so far.

Can't say i have any interest, i gave up on GAAS games a while ago, they just irk me, but it has its place and an audience.

gleepot231d ago

A legacy that few remember.

Obscure_Observer232d ago

"I think Marathon has a good chance, but I'd be very surprised if Fairgame$ turns out to be a success, looks even more bland and generic than Concord."

I believe heist to be more fun than extraction but Bungie definitely has more experience and budge to deliver a better game with Marathon; BUT, since it´s game director got fired recently, one can only wonder what the future holds for that game.

gleepot231d ago

The games drastically shifted direction multiple times. It in development hell.

glennhkboy231d ago

@isarai "one thing you can't deny is they still have talent for satisfying gunplay." Do they? Firework also has a lot of talent developers that have previously worked on CoD & Destiny. Do their talent help Concord?

isarai231d ago (Edited 231d ago )

Yes they do, i never even got into Destiny past a few hours cause i don't like the structure, but the mechanics feel very solid. Cant speak for concord cause im not playing it, but it had a lot more issues that Bungie doesn't. Bungie has a pedigree, a history, and a far superior art team.

northpaws232d ago

My biggest complains of Concord is actually the characters design, you don't feel like a badass from using them.

Crows90232d ago

It's a shame they gave up so quick. The core is solid. Do something more interesting with it

northpaws232d ago

I think it is actually smart... Leaving it on the market to continue get bad rep doesn't help... they should repackage it and released it as free to play.

First, fix up the skins of every characters...

CrimsonWing69232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

What’s truly frightening is the audacity to think that flooding the market with endless GaaS games would have consumers lining up to devour them. GaaS games, in my view, are fundamentally flawed—anemic, repetitive grind-fests designed solely for recurring revenue.

There’s nothing wrong with extending a game’s life through additional content. Imagine if Suicide Squad had launched as a complete experience with depth like the 3 Arkham games before, then evolved with new villains, storylines, and environments over time.

But that's often impractical with current development budgets and timelines. Instead, developers churn out hollow shells, laden with monotonous quests and progression walls designed to artificially extend playtime while dangling paid content just out of reach, all in the vain hope of someday delivering a game that feels truly deep and satisfying… which I struggle to even recall a GaaS game that measures up to a traditional game in terms of feeling like a full experience.

dveio231d ago

This is written perfectly. Thanks!

"Instead, developers churn out hollow shells, laden with monotonous quests and progression walls designed to artificially extend playtime while dangling paid content just out of reach"

This part actually is the most annoying/upsetting for me personally.

It's making me feel like they perceive us as being dumb enough to fall for this.

And then, as it happened yesterday, Hello Games are throwing out their next 13.5GB update for No Man's Sky in comparison.

These GaaS titles such as Concord feel like "Here, I add some ice cubes in your water, that's 40 bucks."

Inverno232d ago

Honestly I see these 2 flopping too. And they be even more honest, I hope they flop and SONY moves on from this GaAS fad that they're late to.

Fairgames Internal Reception At Sony Is Reportedly Very Positive

The internal reception for Sony and Haven Studios' upcoming multiplayer third-person shooter, Fairgames, is reportedly very positive.

I know right

I don’t believe it for a second

Internal reception gave us Concord so…

Just seems funny this positivity comes out after the Concord news. Like they are trying to reassure us rather than just revamping the game or even cancelling it.

232d ago
-Foxtrot232d ago

@Romulus

Because after countless years and years of the same stuff being thrown in our face, with the same shitty practices and the same boring systems in place for live service games we know how it’s probably going to end

Why drag something out and let a company waste money when there’s no love, attention and want for games like it compared to what they can offer.

The market has become massive and oversaturated, I’d rather see better from Sony than another terrible GaaS title

If Concord failed with all that marketing, money and dev time behind it what good is an edgy heist / extraction shooter going to do.

Redgrave232d ago

Internal reception also gave us Redfall.

tay8701232d ago

To be fair, fair game$ doesn't have the competition in its genre like concord had. Doubtful I will pick it up when it releases, as I do not like MP games, but I did buy and really enjoyed helldivers 2. Heist game does sound a bit more enjoyable than a hero shooter, guess we will have to see.

bloop232d ago

Internal reception is completely meaningless. Opinions coming from within an echo chamber are not helpful. It's going to be another Concord situation.

just_looken232d ago

This new sony is one that tends to not listen to the old fans and wants a new community that likes DEI slop and or live service games sadly,

glennhkboy231d ago

@tay8701 what Fairgames has done that hasn't be done before, say Paydays?

+ Show (4) more repliesLast reply 231d ago
OtterX232d ago

Sony sure has had a lot of gaas lately. The thing with gaas is though, you can only hold them in so long before they naturally blow themselves out. Concord was just a little poof. What kind will Fairgames be?

232d ago
OtterX232d ago

@romulus23 lol, everyone's enjoying all the face poofing for the time being, but the reality is, in the end, it doesn't matter really who poofed, bc the room is left smelling like sh**. (the industry)

blackblades232d ago

I forgot about this one, only thing I can say is they need to do a open beta test and see how it goes if leaning towards concord numbers rethink the release. Also this is like that game finals in guessing.

porkChop232d ago

Rather than an open beta these games really need alpha tests. Get earlier feedback to know what needs changing and whether to pivot and retool the game.

jznrpg232d ago

@porkchop that’s a great idea. Things like character models and skills are something you can change early if players don’t receive them well.

StoneTitan232d ago

I mean the style looks so much better than concord...buuut, Absolutely waiting for gameplay first

S2Killinit232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

Wtf, are you suggesting that Sony aren’t allowed to make multiplayer games?

Helldivers says hello.

232d ago
TOTSUKO232d ago

@MVNremaster
It’s a second party Sony developer. So yes it’s a Sony game.

Saying it’s not is like saying every ratchet and clank, resistance or spider man before 2020 isn’t a Sony game lol

seanpitt23232d ago

When Sony lose billions on this GAAS dream, they will lay off thousands of staff and then start again what they were doing from the beginning making incredible single players games with MP modes
Days gone 2 should have got the green light
Last of us online would have been massive success they failed with that.
They are making bad decisions after bad decisions
Buying bungie was a complete disaster then canceled last of us online on basis of bungie opinion haha keep doing these mistakes Sony then Sony will be no more

90sGamingWasBetter232d ago

The reveal trailer was truly awful, I don't hold high hopes for this one either lol.

GTA:SA Carl Johnson: "Ah shit, here we go again."

RaidenBlack232d ago

Even 3rd person this time
At least Concord was the rare FPS in Sony's repertoire

Johnh5223232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

Then you hear “studio shut down”. Another Gaas casualty.

Playstati0n232d ago

Concord was a woke casualty, not gaas. Gunplay in Concord was crisp.

Sgt_Slaughter232d ago

I would ask you to define woke, but none you understand the word you're using anyway

Playstati0n232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

I actually understand the terminology quite well. As well as the origins of when it started and what it was based on. It is perfectly plausible to utilize the phrase as an umbrella term to express political and ideological agendas in certain industries. This was a clear example of where it will take a media entertainment company

Profchaos232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

Yeah because no one wants to speak out in fear of losing their jobs.

I'm not saying it's bad but the statement internal reception can't be trusted

FinalFantasyFanatic232d ago

It's not the first time we've heard this, and especially recently, I take it with a grain of salt, but I'm also the type to wait for reviews/reception from external sources.
