Can Assassin's Creed Shadows Eclipse Ghost of Tsushima?

If Assassin's Creed Shadows can deliver just a portion of the magic that made Ghost of Tsushima a success, it could reignite the franchise.

Will it be good?..maybe. Will it eclipse Ghosts of Tsushima?…no.

S2Killinit158d ago

It will be good. It wont eclipse Ghost. They will both be great i think. Im looking forward to both.

CrimsonWing69158d ago

No. I for one, am excited for this game, but just like Outlaws it’ll more than likely commercially flop. The damage Ubisoft has done to their brand and their push for DEI initiatives has taken a toll.

I love Ghost of Tsushima, but there were plenty of areas where it could have been better, and I think that’s why they have chosen to take Ghost of Yotei into a different era (300 years orso after Tsushima), into a different region, and with a new ‘Ghost’, cause that opens up those possibilities for improvement, which couldn’t have been done if they had stuck to Jin and Tsushima. Bigger cities, more varied fighting styles/gameplay, etc.

Which brings us to AC Shadows, which is set in the most interesting era of Japan, and in the most interesting region. It will have (at least) two different playable characters, with different play-styles, and probably multiple weapon-styles. Personally, I think AC Shadows is looking very promising, but I’ve always been their target demographic, cause open-world Japan games have always been appealing to me.

AC Shadows will have big cities, different play-styles, it's set in a fantastic region and in an era of historical importance, lots of historical figures, and when we look at the care Ubisoft has put in post-launch (free) content for games like Odyssey and Origins, we can be hopeful that AC Shadows might get a similar treatment where it takes you on a virtual tour and teaches you all about the culture, the history, the architecture, etc.

I’m expecting both AC Shadows and Ghost of Yotei to be absolutely great. There will be similarities, there will be differences, but I think both will be worth playing, for me at least. I can understand why not everyone would be interested in multiple open world Japan ninja/samurai games, so those people will just choose whichever seems more appealing to them personally, but I’m excited about both games.

"which couldn’t have been done if they had stuck to Jin and Tsushima. Bigger cities, more varied fighting styles/gameplay, etc."

The only thing you may not have gotten with Jin because of the time period is bigger cities but even then if we got to the mainland Japan they would have been bigger than what we got in Tsushima. Maybe not super big like you'll probably get in Yotei but enough difference from the first little villages in Tsushima.

Jin could have learned more fighting styles which would have unlocked new types of gameplay along with new gear to help him with his stealth. He's young and because he would be an outlaw he'd be travelling a lot meeting new people and gaining experience. I assumed we'd have a Ezio Auditore situation where his character and skills would grow as he got older.

We need to get away pretending it had to go this way, it's not a huge deal what's happened but it's still a video game at the end of the day and there's lots of avenues we could have gotten with Jin within the same time period. It's

I honestly felt Tsushima ended perfectly. Jin’s story was told, I don’t really see him as the type who would then abandon his island in order to start roaming other parts of Japan. I feel he’d stay at Tsushima and help rebuild.

I was surprised to see people who felt they should have stuck with Jin for a sequel. I understand people liking Jin, I did as well, but I’m glad a sequel will now bring us a new hero, with a new story.

-Foxtrot158d ago

Not really

I don’t get how people can say his story was told when the ending pretty much set him up as the ghost to tackle new adventures, help people and grow as a warrior learning new skills. They even had his Uncle tell him the Shogun would be hunting him until the end of his days.

Almost every person after GoT couldn’t wait to see where Jin’s story would go next and you hardly saw anyone say “yeah he’s done, next character and time period please” so I don’t know why people are pretending now that this was what had to happen. I get being excited for a new game but to lie and support it in a way where you have to say “oh yeah there’s no other way this could have gone”.

If Sucker Punch did continue Jins story no one would be complaining about him returning.

mudakoshaka158d ago

Stop trying to make AC Shadows happen...it's not gonna happen.

JimBeans158d ago

How awesome would a modern day Assassin's Creed be? Instead they spend years making a Tsushima clone.

-Foxtrot158d ago

I’d take one with a smaller map but far more detailed where you could climb massive tall skyscrapers. Pretty much what we should have gotten a decade ago.

I've Been Replaying Assassin's Creed Origins, And It's Reminded Me What Shadows Is Sorely Lacking

It took going back to a much older game to realise just how empty Assassin's Creed Shadows feels.

"I've never thought feudal Japan would be a good Assassin's Creed setting. Give me 1960s southern England with mods and rockers."

Aaaaaaand that's where I stopped reading.

Terry_B31d ago

Never read anything on that website.

chicken_in_the_corn31d ago

I agree with the first part of their statement. Japan is so overused and it wasn't particularly interesting in Shadows. Now that it's been done, they can do something better.

isarai30d ago

Tf? Almost had an aneurysm at the thought of that concept, like what?

And shadows reminds me of something origins is lacking. Virtually every game is lacking something. It is because it is lacking, that it has what it isnt. Funny dichotomy that…

anast31d ago

Origins is a beautiful game made by talented people that got turned into a brutal level-gate fest by the CEOs.

PRIMORDUS31d ago

There are only a few Assassin's Creed games I played. Original, The Ezio Collection, and what I think is probably the best in the series Assassin's Creed Odyssey with the DLC. I'm done with the series, it's the same shit.

isarai30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Same, enjoyed 1, looooved the ezio trilogy, and 4 was peak, everything after that just sucked. Unity was a great direction but the bugs and how long it took to fix killed it, best parkour system in the series tho
