Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card (XS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card carries a unique burden as both a mid-range DLC focused on a new side story and Ubisoft's second effort to revive the main game's reputation. It's Cyberpunk 2077 all over again, but without nearly the same ambition. To its credit, my overall attitude towards Outlaws isn't as jagged now thanks to the updated improvements incorporated alongside this expansion; moreover, there are a couple of intriguing design nuances within this standalone story to appreciate. Those improvements and additions – while worth noting – still leave me coming back to that aforementioned phrase: "almost, but not quite." The Force is still mid with this one."

This is sad. They made this game for a group of people that don't even like playing videos games...

SimpleSlave139d ago (Edited 139d ago )

Jee, I wonder what you mean? Could you be a bit more specific, please? Thanks...

anast139d ago

The sales show. They predicted around 7 million units, but they aren't even going to come close to that and it's a Star Wars IP. Their shares took a significant drop days after release. It's shaping up to be a huge loss. All of this points to not enough people playing this game.

Like I said before, it's sad. They made it for a small group of people and only that small group bought it. If they would've let people create their own characters and made the game less like a on-rails Disney ride, and hired better writers, they would have cleared that 7 million mark.

This is what I mean. In case you are actually curious. This one is for free. You're welcome.

Merry Christmas

It's a crap game. End of story.

SimpleSlave137d ago (Edited 137d ago )

@YourMommySpoils - Which is not what they actually meant. But I already ended this story. So don't worry about it.

SimpleSlave139d ago (Edited 139d ago )

@anast - Yes, we all know that ever since AssCreed 2 and Far Cry 3, Ubisawft committed itself to designing games by committee. They saw all that money, and they have been more or less making the same type of "Ubisawft" copypasta games ever since. Yeah, we know, bud. This is nothing new or novel. And it certainly didn't start with Outlaws.

So, is this what you meant by "a small group of people, and only that small group bought it?" Basically, you're saying that Ubisawft should stop designing games with their generic formula that only appeals to the Ubisawft diehard fans? But instead they should broaden their horizons and think bigger and more diverse? Is that it? I mean, if that's what you meant by it, then yes. They should.

"If they would've let people create their own characters..."
They did. As far as I'm concerned, Kay Vess, her little sidekick, and a bunch of the secondary NPCs are original Ubisawft characters created for this game. So I don't get your point. Also, as far as I can see, Kat Vess and the rest of the cast look on point and fit the Star Wars world without a doubt. Again, what's the problem then?

"and made the game less like a on-rails Disney ride,"
Sure. No Pirates of the Caribbean on-rails ride for you. That is to say, less Jedi Survivor and more Cyberpunk 2077. Got it. No problem.

"and hired better writers, they would have cleared that 7 million mark."
Hired better writers? I mean, I guess. Maybe they should've hired the same writers that wrote God of War Ragnarok, the Spider-Man series, and The Last of Us Part 2? That's actually a great idea. Yeah. Because these very highly acclaimed and highly selling games were written and created to appeal to a wide and diverse range of people is why they were so successful. So if that's what you meant, then yeah, I agree. I think this would have helped them clear the 7 million mark for sure. Easily...

"This is what I mean."
Mhmm, yeah. I'm sure it is.

"In case you are actually curious."
I was. Hence why I asked.

"This one is for free. You're welcome."
🙂... And yet, I feel like I want my money back.

Happy Holidays

Passive aggressive weirdness. It was enough for you to write a manifesto. It looks to me you got your money's worth.

SimpleSlave138d ago

"Passive aggressive weirdness." Strange. I could've sworn it was you, with your cowardly behavior, who was being a passive aggressive weirdo... Oh, wait! It was.

"It was enough for you to write a manifesto." Yes, we get it. Too much text scares you. Cool story, bro.

"It looks to me you got your money's worth." I didn't. Money back, please.

Its so good that this flopped. Let's keep ignoring the slop

coolbeans138d ago

Harsh, but not unjustified. It does speak to this growing sentiment about AAA titles not delivering "the next thing" as they so promise.

YourMommySpoils136d ago

Wasn't this meant to be a AAAA game. Maybe they should go back to AAA lol

VGChartz looking for the clicks.

We're reviewing DLC now?

anast139d ago

It's a product. Products need to be reviewed. A DLC almost won GOTY.

raWfodog139d ago

Lots of DLC get reviewed, as they should. Especially the ones that aren’t free.

coolbeans138d ago

-"VGChartz looking for the clicks."

This is going to be a running theme for any prominent game that nets a low score, I guess.

-"We're reviewing DLC now?"

Since when has that *not* been a thing to do? Gaming sites have reviewed DLC/expansions since DLC/expansions have been a thing. Mass Effect: Burning Down The Sky, Oblivion: The Shivering Isles, etc. etc. etc. I don't even get how that's a critique. lol

coolbeans136d ago

Respectfully disagree. That's way too harsh according to the site's score methodology.

YourMommySpoils135d ago

lol no! Your opinion, but if you think this DLC was worth it, then you're seriously missing out on some proper downloadable content from even better games. This coming from huge Star Wars fan. I'm even trying to support the game now, but it's even more dead than Concord going by forums.

coolbeans135d ago

-"Your opinion, but if you think this DLC was worth it, then you're seriously missing out on some proper downloadable content from even better games."

Bro what? I didn't state that either. Only that 2/10 is far too harsh given the site's scoring rubric. Thus, 5/10 is more reasonable to me. It does some things right, but it's otherwise just a mediocre expansion.

YourMommySpoils135d ago (Edited 135d ago )

The actual game is a 1 out of 10

Try putting the game on easy mode and alerting one of the bases, with infinite enemy re spawns, memory dumping your console to unplayable standards. Have tested this out on 6 different systems and they still haven't fixed this to this day.

I've played cheap indie games this year, better than this and they're more around a 5.
