One thing you never do with gamers is give them play limits. That'll never go over well!

thorstein181d ago

If they limited it to 750 hours a month, they'd still complain.

thorstein181d ago

Most months have 740 hours... way to go N4G!

JL2930181d ago

Why are you sensitive over a arrow next to a comment?

thorstein181d ago

@JL Sensitive? Me making fun of gamers who a) complain about anything and b) couldn't figure out that 750 hours a month wouldn't be a limitation is hilarious. And calling them out is even funnier. Just like how angry you are because I pointed that out.

Now I get to laugh at you... you fell for it to, didn't you?

DodoDojo180d ago

No genius, you're getting down votes for seemingly defending crappy practices. As if complaining about a 100 hour limit is unreasonable.

S2Killinit180d ago

I people unliked your comment because it sounds like you are blaming them for being too entitled for not wanting time limitation.

gunfan180d ago (Edited 180d ago )

This is perfect. So many triggered by this. 750 a month is no enough. If this ever happens I only hope the unused time especially in February rollover.

Amplitude181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

You do kind of need limits on streaming, though. You're temporarily renting a PC to play your games on and using pretty massive amounts of data. You cant really just leave that run 24/7

Not saying NVidia made the right move here by attacking literally all of the top GeForce Now users, but they definitely made an absurdly generous move by *not* having limits prior to this. Anyway, this is just another reason why streaming can never be the future for games. GeForce Now is by far the best as far as bit rate, resolution, hardware (4080), price, and response rate (heck, its not like they even sell you games. You connect it right to Steam and stream the supported games you already own) - but even GeForce Now is completely awful compared to a local install.

Profchaos181d ago

If you're offering a subscription service you really need your infrastructure scalable

jwillj2k4181d ago

That’s the whole point of the subscription, smart guy. I’m paying for that rental already. Raise the price up if you need to, but don’t tell me how much time I get to play I’m not a child.

Amplitude180d ago (Edited 180d ago )

You're not paying for a rental, jwill. You're thinking of any other streaming service.

GeForce Now connects directly to your Steam, Epic, Blizzard etc accounts and let's you play the games you bought on those stores, but streaming remotely from a PC with a 4080.

The 20 bucks per month can't possibly let you stream 24/7 365 days per year. That would be an absurd business for NVidia.

jwillj2k4179d ago (Edited 179d ago )

You said absolutely nothing to help your argument. As I’ve stated before, they should raise their prices if it’s not sustainable. The tech for how it works doesn’t matter. I am paying to play don’t limit how much time I have just increase the cost to cover it. Keep in mind all of this Is for bleeding edge of people who have this kind of expendable income.

What’s the more acceptable message to a user of this caliber?

“Due to unforeseen cost, we are going to limit how much you can game even though you’re renting”
or
“Due to unforeseen cost, we’re going to need to increase the cost of the service to ensure you can game as much as you want”

Nvidia claims the 100-hour monthly playtime “accommodates 94% of members”

Gotta love the PR speak. How do adding restrictions accomidate anyone?

DarXyde181d ago

Sounds like these people need PS5s.

.....Where play has no limits 😎

OtterX181d ago

Ooohh!! 😎😎

((nicely played!))

badz149181d ago

Sony needs to be on this quick!

Rynxie181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

As long as you cough up $80+ a year and settle for only having two preset customization options for you games. .

gold_drake181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

the fuck?

ill decide how long im going to play, not them., especially if i have to pay for it

thorstein181d ago

"If you want to play more then you'll have to pay more." -Nvidia suit probably.

Amplitude181d ago

GeForce Now actually has a completely free tier that lets you play for an hour. There's no time limit between sessions either, so you can just immediately boot back into the game every hour.
NVidia is hardly money-starved. This had to have been a big enough financial loss that they decided to take the L.

180d ago
Relientk77181d ago

That's so stupid. They thought gamers would be ok with this? Lol

QuantumMechanic181d ago (Edited 181d ago )

Here comes the inevitable slow squeeze. The managers of these game-streaming services are drooling over the prospect of a return to arcade-like monetization: pay per unit-time; no end-user physical ownership!

MeteorPanda181d ago

An arcade where you bring your own games lol

Gamingsince1981181d ago

You don't even own the games though

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH181d ago

Let’s see how long it takes them to reverse this terrible decision.

well, the switch 2 has two holidays in the us, thanksgiving and Christmas.

so id say its fairly possible. the rest of the world will also grab them

Abriael20h ago

Yeah doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility as long as they have enough supply.

Si-Fly10h ago

Do people buy each other games consoles for Thanksgiving? I’m in Europe and always assumed it was just Christmas where gifts were exchanged.

Skate-AK10h ago

I don't think it's so much Thanksgiving, but that Black Friday is the day after.

darthv7210h ago(Edited 10h ago)

That time is often referred to as the start of the Xmas shopping season. For the last few years, retailers would do 'black Friday' deals at various times throughout the year. While many still prefer to start their shopping in the mid to late November, others will just buy when they feel the time (and prices) are right for them.

Switch and Switch are a different kettle of fish. A sell out at launch by the diehards, strong sales, then the non diehards will be put off by the £75 ($99) games, including the stupid download cards which are topping £65 ($85). Not rocket science to work out how the Switch 2 is going to pan out. The PS5 has sold well, but games at £70, sales have been low. As game sales drop, prices will rise. Sony could knock out all their games for £40 and still make a killing selling more games. There's no denying that a gaming crash is looming.

Rancegamerx6h ago

I agree, I don't see the Switch 2 selling anywhere near the numbers that these predictions suggest or what the general buzz is implying. While the initial sales will likely be strong, driven by diehard fans, I anticipate a gradual decline. It may not drop off immediately, but over time, sales will inevitably taper.

PRIMORDUS6h ago

Not paying for something that's not worth more than the price it was advertised, which is $449 - $499.

Hopefully this leads to a price drop for the Ally X, because if the claimed 10–20% performance boost is accurate, it’s hardly a game-changer. Unless it takes the Ally X price, making the latter take over the normal Ally spot.

darthv721d 10h ago

wow... with the grips on it, makes it look similar to my switch with nyxi cons attached.

I'm not following you on instagram to see it, Steve.

Sorry, didnt remember my account was private. I have tried imgur before and it would never take.

How about this one: https://scontent-lax3-1.xx....

darthv721d 7h ago

they could have at least wiped it down before taking the pics. All those fingerprints on the touch screen...

Im curious about the two different CPU types. Are we looking as a Series X|S situation again?

RaidenBlack1d 5h ago

FYI, this is not the bespoke Xbox handheld that'd be part of Xbox's next-gen console lineup of 2027.
This, Project Keenan, is supposedly just collab with Asus to produce an Xbox branded Ally 2.
imho, it'll just be a portable PC i.e like Ally or Deck with some Xbox specific features, like a shortcut button.

Obscure_Observer16h ago

Yeah.

It´s cool and all but I rather wait for the upcoming official Xbox handheld instead.

That looks nice. I like the GameCube style joycons, I don't know why people downvote, if it's not their taste just leave the post as is. MP remastered a masterpiece I have it myself to. I bought the Hori Split Pad Pro, they are pretty good.

VenomUK1d 9h ago

This looks absolutely beautiful. It demonstrates that Microsoft has a vision for where gaming should be going. Sadly I fear that Sony with its cloud-only PS Portal machine will be left behind in the dust. These are the closing days of the PS5 era.

Ps5conehead1d 8h ago

What are you talking about the closing days of ps5 era

crazyCoconuts1d 8h ago

I think you forgot to add the /s at the end

ocelot071d 8h ago

Cloud only PS Portal? It's a £200 streaming device. It has two jobs remote play from a ps5 and stream from the cloud noting else. It's essentially a accessory.

This Microsoft/Asus handheld is a handheld pc that's going to be £400+. How you can compare it to a streaming accessory I don't know lol. Microsoft/Asus really need to do something incredible with this. As we are currently at a time where everyone seems to be releasing a new handheld gaming pc on a daily basis.

repsahj1d 4h ago

@VenomUK
Reverse psychology? XD

andy851d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

Dunno about anyone else but the cloud streaming on the portal is absolutely awesome and a device under 200. And once beta is finished 1000+ games to stream instantly. This is gonna be priced 500+ minimum, to still stream gamepass games. That's an odd comparison with the portal

Profchaos1d 4h ago

You realise this is a portable gaming PC right it's not a console capable of playing Xbox games.

It's a rog ally with a Xbox skin and more power

quenomamen1d 2h ago

So in your mind outselling your competitor by more than double while just releasing the Pro Model are signs of the closing days for the PS5 huh ? On what planet ate you living ?

InUrFoxHole1d 1h ago

While I agree (for now) the sony era of old has run it's course. The PS portal is a solid device and if sony has shown anything in the past, it's they can make top tier handheld consoles.

PanicMechanic17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

Please keep your mouth shut. Thank you.

Also: it looks hideous with a cheap looking build quality

gerrylee16h ago

Omg, I took a screenshot of this comment to keep it forever in my archive of "most delusional comments ever". Gongrats, you deserve eternity.

Why does it look damaged and deformed? 😂

darthv721d 8h ago

it just looks like it needs a good wipe on the screen. Smudgy for a touchscreen.

Profchaos1d 3h ago

Seems like a prototype where it's not finished but the buttons look deformed and damaged as if it was a 3d print job

azedean1d 8h ago

Damn!! It 's ugly as hell!!!I MS gave them some advices on design side... it is thiiiick.

I'll stay with the first one much better design.

popabi1d 7h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

It won't outsell the PlayStation Portal.

PlayStation Portal Sales Surge: Nearly 2 Million Units Sold So Far in 2024
https://newfortech.com/tech...

Steam Deck has sold about 4 million units in the three years since its release, dominating 50% of the handheld gaming PC market
https://gigazine.net/gsc_ne...

I would be willing to bet it sells significantly less units than the ROG Ally 2 it's based off.

RaidenBlack1d 5h ago

Portal and this are two different products.
One is a streaming accessory whilst the other is a standalone portable PC with an Xbox branding and buttons.
FYI, this is not the bespoke Xbox handheld that'd be part of Xbox's next-gen console lineup of 2027.
This, Project Keenan, is supposedly just a collab with Asus to produce an Xbox branded Ally 2.

popabi1d 5h ago

So, why aren't you telling that to VenomUK?

No one cares about this thing, it's just a ROG Ally with green LED's and a Xbox button which will probably cost more than the base ROG Ally because of Microsoft licensing fee's.

You can get mad at the negative comparison to the Portal, but I stand by my statement and still think that it won't outsell the base ROG Ally.

1d ago Replies(1)
Profchaos23h ago

Combined sales of all pc portables only equals 6 million so if steamdeck is at 4 million safe to say ROG is under 2 million sold to date

RaidenBlack18h ago

VenomUK's comment is probably a sarcasm.
Atleast reads like one.

Sitdown17h ago

Was this necessary? My goodness, play the games/devices not the sales game.
