PS5 Pro Review - Powerful On Paper, Ordinary In Action

When the PlayStation 5 debuted in November 2020, Sony made a compelling case for picking one up. In addition to simply being a shiny new console, the value proposition it presented was largely in the games available at launch. The selection included a variety of third-party titles but, more importantly, multiple first-party titles that served as excellent showcases for the power of the newly available PS5.

It's like upgrading your GPU in your PC for better performance and visual. This console was designed for the hardcore playstation enthusiast gamer

Blad3runner00170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

Except when you spend $700 for a GPU on PC, you get a much more substantial upgrade then what the PS5 Pro is offering

OldDuffer170d ago

That's a pretty daft analogy as if you buy a pro you are getting all the other components including motherboard , OS, 2TB ultra fast SSD and the controller etc.
When you buy a GPU, that's all you are getting.
As someone who blew £2K getting an Evga FTW3 ultra 3090 a couple of years back, I know exactly what you get, and I know that the PS5 pro is a bargain in PC terms. Its only worth the upgrade for those that might notice the difference of course, for most people the base PS5 is still the best deal.

anast170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

$700 PC upgrade will allow you to play Fortnite and really old games.

IRetrouk170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

But you don't, spent 800 on a laptop for my child for Christmas, its an i5 and gtx 3050 mobile 6gb edition.....hardly ps5 levels of performance never mind pro🤷‍♂️

883170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

1080Ti to 2080Ti --- big cost difference at the time but 35-45% faster... PS5 to PS5 Pro --- less cost difference in price AND the performance difference is easily on par and with PSSR (vs. original DLSS) even more significant. This is not an unprecedented cash grab by Sony. NVIDIA is the king of that, and I'm running a 4090, so it's not as if I am in denial here.

andy85170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

Yes but then you're only getting a GPU not a whole system so obviously 😂

Cacabunga170d ago

I need first party games taking advantage of it rather than cross gen titles.

Christopher170d ago

Do you? Pretty sure you get an increase based on the cost of your last GPU, which likely wasn't some low-cost end GPU. GPU hardware releases across the board are decreasing in advancement exponentially. It's software (procedural, supersampling, etc.) that's doing all the heavy lifting now. See: PSSR on the PS5 Pro.

Good-Smurf169d ago (Edited 169d ago )

$700 GPU is just a start on PC though you still have to buy dozens other components to make it a functional gaming PC.
And you have to tinkering with it all the time to keep the game run smoothly, no such constant annoyances on PS5 Pro.

It's baffling to me that people don't understand this basic concept.

DivineHand125170d ago

Not exactly the same as upgrading your PC GPU. When you upgrade on PC, all the games you play also get boosted visuals and performance. The PS5 Pro however, does not give you this benefit. Only the games updated by the developers are boosted. Bloodborne is still a 30 fps game.

Playstation fans getting milked for something is as common as a sunrise.... Enjoy that pro! Sorry Sony didn't take it easy on you with the price... Oh well, you'd have bought it no matter what. Lol

jwillj2k4169d ago

Wrong it’s like buying a new computer.

People threat this console as if it’s «next gen». Its clearly not. Can’t wait to get mine early next year.

The-VG-shamman170d ago

This review called demon souls the most visually impressive game on ps5. I’m not sure if they need glasses but out of all the games available that choice is ridiculous af. Almost rage bait lol.

goken170d ago

He’s absolutely right…. If this was 2020… unfortunately this is 2024

The-VG-shamman166d ago

How tf do 7 ppl disagree with this?! What kind of engagement goes on here? Has to be bots!!! Like wtf i own the ps5 pro and the last of us part 1 looks 100 times better i own demon souls which is free and many other titles, even horizon forbidden west is an absolute beast, the fidelity in that game is beyond most titles today, on pro mode it’s easily the best looking thus far.

TheKingKratos170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

Oooff

Lol now the reviews are out and the videos are out there... Everything are pretty clear now

myDorazio170d ago

IMHO we are far more impressed by clever graphical flourishes like the Sonic Statuette hanging from the mirror in Sega's "Rad Mobile" than any stupid ray traced reflections, no matter how realistic.

Knushwood Butt169d ago

Fairly obscure example.
Yeah, I remember it, from probably the only Rad Mobile cab I ever saw, which I think was at the Belle Vue multiplex! I remember thinking it was cool, but not being particularly impressed with Rad Mobile.

Review - Blue Prince (PS5) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Kyle Nicol: "Even if you aren’t a fan of roguelikes, Blue Prince feels much more like an elaborate puzzle box. There’s a satisfying feeling in making it further than you did before, finding clues to a puzzle, then stumbling onto another piece of that puzzle a few runs later. Blue Prince is certainly one of the most interesting games of this year. It takes a fairly novel concept in a roguelike puzzle game, adding elements of deckbuilding and base crafting. It all comes together for a gameplay experience unlike anything else out there today."

Huge difference i must admit, but not sure i would notice without 2 screens next to each other.

Not getting this game still, i want a new game and im tired of remasters

Muigi1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

It’s $10 and there are plenty of games out there for you.

Flewid63836m ago

Then its not a huge difference?

Remastered.....

Flewid63835m ago

You're forgetting 30fps to 60fps

Tedakin1h ago

Sony is now remastering games with 71s on metacritic.

Bathyj1h ago

Like that's a judge of anything
This game got scored before it was released.

andy851h ago

Days gone is 85+. It got heavily marked down at launch for bugs where as others get a free pass for that. It's a fantastic game.

andy851h ago

I spoiled myself by modding this game on my PC. Genuinely one of the best looking games I've ever seen. Whilst this remaster looks nice it just doesn't compare to that sadly. It shows the effort that these remasters could put in if they wanted

REDGUM1h ago

I so hope this game or DLC for those of us who own the original sells well.
Ive said it before, its an underrated game for sure & was unfairly judged upon release.
Please try this game if you haven't already.

For those who say 'i won't purchase digital only' you can pickup a hard copy for 5 bucks here in Australia, then add the DLC and you have a superb game for $20 or so.

Give it a shot, tell me I'm wrong After completing the game.

Game on gamers.
