Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sales top 500,000

Total sales for turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have surpassed 500,000 units just one day after release, publisher Kepler Interactive and developer Sandfall Interactive announced.

gold_drake22d ago

im glad it has the success it deserves.

lukasmain22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

See? When developers are PROUD of their sales they tell us their sales numbers. Not how many 'players' they have for a single player game. Capcom tells us sales too and so does Sony. Others are slightly ashamed of their sales numbers, or they care too much what everyone will think so they choose to tell us a misleading prettier number to make it seem more successful than it really is. It's so obvious.

Same goes for console sales numbers. MS used to tell us their numbers until they weren't proud of them anymore.

I am so going to play this game. But at the moment there is just too much to play for the rest of the year. I'm going to have to hold off for now BUT I'm going to buy it now to show support.

Tacoboto22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Why does this article have to be used to push this damn agenda?

Just be happy for the devs ffs without having to fan the dramatic flames of console warring

Redemption-6422d ago

Let it go. Using this to take shot at other games/companies is pure stupidity and desperate. Companies such as Microsoft, EA and Ubisoft also want you to subscribe to their services. The more people subscribe, the more money they can also make from mtx.

Cacabunga22d ago

SP FTW! I have nothing else to add
I pick mine up just an hour ago. Can’t wait for later to try it out

Obscure_Observer22d ago

"Capcom tells us sales too and so does Sony."

Yeah? How many Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Until Dawn sales were sold again?

Bring those numbers by Sony. I´ll wait.

Dhika22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

So?
I suggest you focus on the pre-orders of the Switch 2 and prepare an excuse or two when they will sell like crazy, since you were so adamant it won't be selling like the original switch 😅.

Knushwood Butt22d ago

If this is also on game pass, doesn't it raise an interesting point that they are calling out actual sales numbers while it's also on a subscription service?

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH22d ago

You actually took time out of your day to write all this crap? lol smh get a life bro

Make great games that aren't taking advantage of your consumers and it will do well. That's more true in today's gaming since so many companies are making anti consumer greedy decisions

-Foxtrot22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

I'm glad aswell

I guess people will realise that Square Enix's argument of "turn based doesn’t sell" is a load of bulls**t. The whole thing is even more impressive with it being a new IP and made by super small team.

VersusDMC22d ago

500k sales isn't really proving anything to square enix. FFXVI reached 3 million in 6 days...so any number below that isn't really proving anything.

But good for sandfall and let's see where the sales are in a week.

*I guess people will realise that Square Enix's argument of "turn based doesn’t sell" is a load of bulls**t.*
It's 500k sales so far. calm down haha 😅

-Foxtrot22d ago

" FFXVI reached 3 million in 6 days...so any number below that isn't really proving anything"

And yet...despite everything Square Enix does, all the changes it makes to make FF more streamlined and accessible, drifting further away from it's core roots, they are STILL disappointed with sale numbers not hitting their insane targets.

Levii_9222d ago

-Foxtrot ok and what by making FF a boring turn based combat again it will somehow make it sell more copies? You know i bet you’re also the kind of guy that constantly whines and whines about RE not being in archaic fixed camera and having obtuse nonsense aren’t you? Jesus. Get over it already.

-Foxtrot22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

@Levii_92

The point of my comment wasn't to say having turn based will sell tons of copies, my point was they are never happy with sales and turn based is clearly still relevant today so why not just make a new mainline FF game turn based while being happy with the sales you have.

"constantly whines and whines about RE not being in archaic fixed camera"

LMAO. I have NEVER said this, not f****** once so don't you dare bulls*** to try and force an argument.

I've always argued that Resident Evil didn't need to go first person and third person (like what we see in the OG RE4 or the remakes) were still relevant. That's literally it.

"Jesus. Get over it already"

I love the fact my comment triggered you that much you had to swoop in with a bunch of BS for the sake of it.

Why do people need to be absolute massive pricks on here, seriously and then you have the nerve to say I whine...

https://n4g.com/news/266389...

All this and you don't even like the game in question.

FinalFantasyFanatic21d ago

Square-Enix are always surprised when their own turn-based games sell (e.g. Bravely Default), but then they're not quite happy with the sales of their other games (stupidly high expectations to a degree).

I really hope this game gets more sales, it looks like it deserves it.

Glad as well. Turn Based RPG's still have a place in the games industry.

FACTUAL evidence22d ago

Always had a place in the industry. Unfortunately RPGs as a whole were getting over looked by big territories like US and EU due to the FPS/call of duty phase in gen 7-8. People became twitchy and wanted fast action, but the original fans of turned based was always there, just slightly neglected. I’ve been saying Lost odyssey was a blueprint for modern turned based RPGs.

Relientk7722d ago

Awesome! I got my copy yesterday. It's great so far! I'm excited to play it more this weekend. I hope it continues to sell well.

robtion22d ago

Yep it's really great. Just a shame you can't take photos on PS5. The screenshot button just pauses the game and there's no photo mode.

Sanctusone22d ago

This annoyed me as well but if you hold the share button it will take a screenshot without the giant pause.

robtion22d ago

@Sanctusone Thanks for the tip ;)

Bhuahahaha22d ago

1st game i bought at launch date this year 😁

FACTUAL evidence22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Lol well I got the Suikoden game launch day. I also got E33 launch, yesterday, April 24th 2025. I went into gamestop(which I never shop at) and saw a long line of people and didn’t know what was going on. Long story short, found out the line was for the switch 2 pre orders, I had to wait behind 60 people just to buy Expedition 33, so I was like, may as well pre order the switch 2 as well smh. Ain’t gunna lie, resale purposes only if my niece doesn’t want it lol.

The_Hooligan22d ago

Haha Same. The last game I bought on launch day was Astro Bot and now this. Going through ff16 right now and it's DLC so once I'm done with that this is next. Can't wait.

harv05222d ago

Absolutely deserved and I hope more people will get on board! This is a passion project and it shows! And for a new IP AND a brand new studio it's bloody well done!!

Blad3runner001d 8h ago

Perhaps Sandfall can hold a special weekend, where they can invite Ubisoft and teach them how to make great games.

neutralgamer19921d 8h ago

Only thing they want to learn is how to rip off their consumers even more

The_Hooligan1d 7h ago

Haha it will be like the student has become the master.

Ghostwood9h ago

AAAA almost 40 years in the business Ubisoft can learn a thing or two from this brand new developer lol

They gave Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a 10, nice! Usually Edge are pretty tough critics.

coolbeans1d 8h ago

I don't know. Giving Lost Records: Bloom & Rage a 7 is insanely generous. I'd probably cut that score in half. lol
