I believe that the Xbox series X does the same thing to Xbone games as well. It's a dope feature to have when you play your old games

BeHunted183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

Completely different. Xbox Series unlocks framerates from 30fps to 60fps for specific games.

Also turns out that Ps5 Pro GPU is only 16.7tflops and not 33tflops like some would believe... That's 6.4tflops more than Base Ps5 GPU

Boy did sony take their customers to the cleaners. i got voted to hell saying this weeks before.

andy85183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

Anyone who knows anything about hardware has known this for awhile. It's \~33TFlops of compute on RDNA3 architecture but in reality that number gets halved because dual-issue on it is virtually non-existent which is what AMD bases the inflated TFlop values off of.

In terms of actual spec the Pro GPU is basically a 7700XT with a better upscaler option. You can't really compare TFlops between different architectures

Hereandthere183d ago

Going by your coping logic, series x is 25tf's and series s is 8 tf's.

andy85183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

Why would I need to cope? I doubt you have both a PS5 and Gamepass like I do, I deal in facts. The fact you're saying that means the Series X is 25TF shows you have no idea what youre talking about as the Series X is RDNA2, that's why it isn't. The Pro is above a 7700XT which is 35TF. So that emphasises my point that a TF number is not the full story

TheKingKratos183d ago

Not everyone though because there is people here who goes everywhere here telling people it's 33tflops because the leaks... When in reality it isn't

@Hereandthere

No because RDNA 2 does not work in unison on the CU, they work in parallel which is why the TFLOPS are what they are. However, if they did work in unison like RDNA 3 or newer, than yes that’s exactly what the TFLOPS would be rated for the Series X and Series S.

Series X: 24.3 TFLOPS
PS5: 20.56 TFLOPS
Series S: 8.012 TFLOPS

It’s not cope, it’s being educated.

@TheKingKratos

Because it is, and I’m not attacking anyone when I say this, but the problem is you nor the people spreading that are educated on GPUs. You guys are only being told numbers and just comparing it RDNA 3 and above have their Floating Point calculations and Integer Math on the CU unlike older GPUs and that’s where the higher number is coming from, but if you truly had to compare apples to apples as much as possible, then the 16.7 TFLOPS is the better way to do it.

Mark Cerny already stated the PS5 Pro has 67% more CUs and renders 45% times faster, not 3x faster as the 33.4 TFLOPS would have indicated (again which is why you don’t use TFLOPS but real world performance to compare GPUs). 3x the performance would have placed the PS5 Pro between the RX 7900 XTX and the RTX 4090 $1000 - $1600 (now $2000 GPUs RTX 4090) which just isn’t realistic.

16.7 TFLOPS? That's not even close to the 7700 XT's TFLOPS. Hmmm, I know TFLOPS don't really matter but maybe the custom GPU in the Pro is about a 7700 XT - 7800 XT level on PC, that or everyone was wrong lol.

ABizzel1183d ago

That’s because they’re calculating Floating Point only, and not Floating Point + Integer Math like the RX 7000 series does which doubles the GPUs TFLOPS.

That’s where the 33.4 TFLOPS number comes from which places in line RX 7700XT and RTX 4070.

mkis007183d ago

We already understood it was 16.7 with the 33 number being for certain tasks...this "discovery" is a nothingburger.

xenz183d ago

People are still caring about teraflops?

ABizzel1183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

What’s 16.7 * 2…….33.4

AMD and NVIDIA are both using dual precision for the CUs in their GPUs and splitting Floating Point and Integer Math/Floating Point hence where the 33.4 TFLOPS comes from. This is exactly why the TFLOPs of the NVIDIA RTX 2000 series to the RTX 3000 series doubled in TFLOPS, and the same thing with AMDs RX 6000 series to the RX 7000 series. Sony clearly decided to focus only on Floating Point when calculating their TFLOPS for the PS5 Pro and not include Integer Math and that’s why PS5 Pro is rated at 16.7 TFLOPs on the box. However, both 16.7TF and 33.4TF are true.

This has nothing to do with Sony, and everything to do with how NVIDIA and AMD rate their GPUs TFLOPS. Sony just used Floating Point only when calculating their PS5 Pros GPU. Honestly, this is why some of you need to just stay out of these kind of conversations.

Not to mention TFLOPS is not the idea measure of a GPUs performance let alone a consoles performance with all the customizations they have (hence PS5 vs Series X). But using TFLOPS for this threads sake.

At 16.7TFLOPS, that means the PS5 Pro in theory is actually +62% more powerful than the base PS5, even prior to PSSR, which means the PS5 Pro is in line with the RTX 4070 in rasterization……..a $600 GPU…..and places the PS5 Pro alongside the RTX 4070 within the top 20 most powerful GPUs available on the market today in terms of rasterization.
