Well that's certainly interesting. I know in my house we have both the X and S. I assume there are many others who started out with the S and graduated to the X when they felt the time was right. We should see a similar approach with the 5 Pro and users who will double dip to get the better machine after having the former.

goken183d ago

I see the reasoning with owning an X and S, if i were a xbox owner may pick an additional one at a sale or something.

The pro is kinda expensive though… not sure the same thought process will apply, but sure

S2Killinit183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

The PS5Pro is only $100 more expensive than the 2tb series X, and it also has 2tb hard-drive I think.

GamerRN183d ago

And 250$ more expensive than the All Digital X, $300 when on sale

Lexreborn2183d ago

My sons have an S, I have the X. Soon, my sons will inherit my ps5 and I will have the pro. All they play is games like TABs and Roblox anyways…. Even with my insane library that’s all they play.

TheKingKratos183d ago

"""We should see a similar approach with the 5 Pro and users who will double dip to get the better machine after having the former.'""

How is that even remotely similar?!

Ps5 was already too good of a machine unlike the S and it's the main console
unlike the S too where X takes all the attention and care.

Ps5 pro will either get the sales of ps4 pro or even less because the less features and way too expensive outside of US

darthv72183d ago

It's pretty self explanatory.

GamerRN183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

I think it'll do less than PS4 Pro... That gen needed a 4k upgrade. This Gen is only frame rate. 200 more for 30fps is bad math... I still bought one though lol

Then again I still have my Dreamcast and Atari Jaguar

Tacoboto184d ago

So if that's the trend in the US, and Japan (319k S vs 307k X) is roughly 50-50 as well, then we just might be able to deduce that it is roughly 50-50 worldwide.

A market clearly exists there. It'll be interesting to see the split after the holiday period, where Series S bundles will probably be sold around $200

darthv72183d ago

It's likely 60-40 [S-X] WW because EU is 70-30 alone.

rlow1183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

How do you get 18 thumbs down? The trolls are a trolling.

I agree, this holiday sales period will be interesting. Does the X outperform the S, or does the S keep the crown?

I think if Xbox X drops in price for Black Friday it could be the holiday champ for Xbox.

Finally!

Hopefully MS will learn their lesson and release just one mainline and powerful next gen console in 2026. And I hope their rumored handheld to be only a streaming device/companion for the next Xbox, for gaming on the go.

goken183d ago

I bet by now a handheld with the same specs as an S, access the whole xbox library. wouldn’t that be neat?

InUrFoxHole182d ago

I would prefer a stronger handheld, if possible.

porkChop183d ago

A handheld doesn't need to be streaming-only. It would be a handheld PC, likely with a custom version of Windows that's trimmed down and specifically gaming focused. It would just be an Xbox/Windows version of the Steam Deck.

Obscure_Observer183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

"It would just be an Xbox/Windows version of the Steam Deck."

Thing is, whenever SD won´t properly run a game due technical limitations, whatever. Nobody cares.

An Xbox handheld won´t have the same "luxury" or "privilege" as Steam Deck does. In theory, studios would face the same problems optimizing their games as they do right now with the S.

A streaming-only handheld would save developers the headache. And in MS´s case, time and money.

crazyCoconuts183d ago

What would you want an Xbox streaming handheld to do that Logitech's g-cloud device doesn't already do?

S2Killinit183d ago

I bet MS would tell us that the handheld and whatever theor next console is, are the same console and add up the numbers.

darthv72183d ago

...I'm here to say that the g-cloud is one really nice convenient little piece of tech. I just wished it supported Android 12 or higher instead of 11 currently. There is the potential for apps to no longer support 11 as things progress.

amazing numbers for Astro Bot!

"Series X Now Outselling Series S in US"

Press X to doubt.

So you're telling me that the series x managed to become the lead selling console in the chart release of the exact month the PS5 Pro went on sale... This reminds me of how when the xbonex went on sale NPD/Circana which had always reported console sales switched to dollar sales because the x was so much more expensive it skewed the charts.

When this 25/75 split was revealed Microsoft had approximately 20,000,000 sales.

5,000,000 x
15,000,000 s

Today they have 30,000,000 , 10,000,000 more then the original statement, so Microsoft would have had to have sold every single console as an x to reach 15,000,001

I am using total sales not just US because the original statement wasn't broken down by region. But the idea that in 10,000,000 total sales that the x could have overtaken the s when the split given is 58% / 42% seems mathematically improbable at best.

So, yeah mashing X

pwnmaster3000184d ago (Edited 184d ago )

“So you're telling me that the series x managed to become the lead selling console in the chart release of the exact month the PS5 Pro went on sale.“

What are you trying to imply?
What does the pro got to do with series x outselling series s?

Tacoboto184d ago

The PS5 outsold the Series consoles again so this dude is making a conspiracy out of his own inability to read.

If you read through to Circana's actual data, Series consoles sold third in unit sales:

"PlayStation 5 again led the month’s hardware market in unit and dollar sales, with Xbox Series ranking 2nd in dollars and Nintendo Switch #2 in units sold."

Einhander1972183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

Tacoboto

"The PS5 outsold the Series consoles again so this dude is making a conspiracy out of his own inability to read. If you read through to Circana's actual data, Series consoles sold third in unit sales:"

Obviously I understand that...

"Today's numbers reflect the proportion just in the US market where Circana reports. Your 25/75 split is based on Microsoft data from nearly 2 and a half years ago, April 2022."

Did you even read what I said? Because, clearly you didn't understand it. Obviously I understand what NPD/Circana cover the US I actually explained it in my comment.

pwnmaster3000

I guess I thought my wording was obvious, but I am comparing the x overtaking the s.

I just find the timing of this announcement to be suspect. The exact month the PS5 Pro goes on sale the "mid gen" xbox x overtakes the xbox s. Statistically, what are the odds of that happening? Then you look at the math and the whole thing becomes even that much more improbable....

Obscure_Observer183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

"What does the pro got to do with series x outselling series s?"

Don´t bother. Some people just can´t accept that other people have different tastes and interests when comes to buy a new console.

Xbox Series consoles and Playstation consoles have VERY different propositions when comes to focus in gaming and first party content. Especially *upcoming* first party games.

The S simply can´t handle those games well enough for people to care for it and I´m glad they´re in a position to acquire the most powerful Xbox.

S2Killinit183d ago

I think you arent reading his comment correctly. If he is right about the numbers announced, then he is correct. How can xbox series x catch up to series S if the difference was that large at 20 million sold?

darthv72184d ago

don't overthink it... just keep hating on Xbox while the rest of its fans get ready for CoD.

badz149183d ago

LOL CoD is not exclusive to xbox

goken183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

Not a fan of COD. Got a bunch of CoDs from PS+. I don’t even play em. I can’t understand the necessity of getting a COD every year. Although it still males more sense than the annual Fifa and NBA 2k
Although millions of people disagree with me i know lol

Tacoboto184d ago

This is not a mentally stable take of the situation at all.

Today's numbers reflect the proportion just in the US market where Circana reports. Your 25/75 split is based on Microsoft data from nearly 2 and a half years ago, April 2022.

Flewid638183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

The article says the PS5 was the lead selling console.

Plague-Doctor27183d ago (Edited 183d ago )

You can't use total sales to make this comparison. The S has skewed very heavily in certain countries but in the US it's always been closer to 50/50 or 60/40 for the S, and the X had been gaining ground for several months. Why would you think Mat Piscatella would lie? I don't even see how this information bothers you so much...

Einhander1972183d ago

If that were the case, to achieve 75/25 given that the US is the largest region for xbox by far everywhere else would need to have been improbably skewed towards the series s.
