Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered forces PSN login for PC users if they decide to upgrade

PlayStation is forcing Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered PC players to log into PSN to play, a restriction not found in the original release.

The only issue I find is a lot of countries don't have PSN. So they miss out on the latest Sony PC releases.

But for someone like me who lives in the UK I don't have a issue.

I have no problem logging into my XBox account either on Steam to get achievements on the handful of titles I play. I actually just picked up Sunset Overdrive FINALLY, bc it's on sale for only 4.99. I lost hope that it would come to PS4/PS5.

It is to stop piracy, but it isn't working. What happens is you get 30,000 downloads on Steam and half a million on various other "free" websites. People are not prepared to pay the high prices for Sony games on PC and I'm not prepared to buy Sony games that aren't on a disc at a reasonable price. Sony is committing seppuku either way.

Enjoy SSOD... its def better on PC thanks to 60fps or more. I tried to go back and play it on my SX and that 30fps is just not good for a game like that. A slower paced game like Ryse is fine but even that feels more fluid on my steam deck thanks to more fps.

For all the whining the PC users are doing about this, it won't even matter one bit or hurt Sony in any way. All they're doing is looking stupid since they already have a ton of launchers installed on their machines, but they whine about a login, which you could make using dummy infos? It's because it's Sony. PC gamers seem to think they are being done wrong by needing a PSN account to play their games at all. All the launchers needed, and this is the line....If this was 3rd party game publisher making it mandatory then I'd be a bit more put off. The fact that we are getting previous exclusive games people bought playstations to play I think we get a pretty good deal out of it.

The 50 or so people from those countries that bought Horizon Zero Dawn, won't be able to upgrade, which most of you folks think is unnecessary anyways.

And even if they DID upgrade, the old game doesn't dissappear

For the PC users who don't agree with this action, please explain to me why it's frowned upon by PC gamers. Is it because it's just an extra step/gateway to get to the game? I'm asking just because I'm simply curious. I'm assuming that the majority of PC games ported over from consoles do not require extra login steps?

This has probably been explained multiple times before, but most of the anger comes down to region blocking. While juggling multiple launchers/sign-ins isn't ideal for anyone, it's mostly been begrudgingly tolerated, or outright solved through user optional removal methods. PSN isn't available everywhere, so you've got a lot of countries (say you've got friends in these countries, Helldivers II as an example of something you all want to play together) missing out on games simply because Sony wants to immediately pump up their PSN user numbers to impress shareholders.

Sony has existing legal barriers to jump over to expand their network infrastructure globally, which in my opinion if they were going to do this sort of thing they should have settled that matter before pushing this requirement out. It would have annoyed people like any other sign-in, but most would still have access to these games, so the reception would be far less volatile.

I was locked out of playing GTA V and RDR both on PC last year because my Steam account's connection to Rockstar Launcher got corrupted.

It took over a month for Rockstar's terrible support to fix the Steam account connection, but only after I had to provide original confirmation numbers from my Steam purchase for GTA V from like, 2015-2016.

And I don't even play GTA Online. It sucks and is extremely anti-consumer, and N4G members used to rail against logins as a ding to PC.

That was, at least, until Sony started to enforce it on a game they already released without it...

What? So you didn't have to create MS account for Minecraft, Blizzard account for Diablo etc and all the other logins from R*, EA and Ubisoft on PC?? Separate launchers? No?

If PC gamers would have fought harder back then against these 3rd party logins instead of simping over the companies they like such as Blizzard which was pushing this thing hard from the beginning, we wouldn't have to be in this situation.

The last Ubisoft game I bought on Steam was AC Odyssey. The login situation is partly why I stopped playing - I don't want that on my PC. My last EA game - Dead Space - No login. My last Xbox game on Steam - Hellblade - no login either. EA is even using Steam compatibility as a marketing beat for the new DA.
