Is the PS5 Pro Worth It If You Don't Own the Base Console?

The PS5 Pro is pricy and lacks many new features, but is it worth it for someone who doesn't own a PS5 yet? Power Up Gaming weighs in here.

No. A $700 mid gen console upgrade is crazy. The fact that it doesn’t come with a stand or disk drive is another story.

darthv72223d ago

My buddy bought the 4 Pro at $400 when it came out. And yet that was the same price the fat 4 cost just 3 years prior.

He had not gotten a 5 yet as he felt there was going to be a Pro and he would get that. Well.... at $700 he has changed his mind. He has gotten a slim 5 at $500 instead.

People crying about the ps5 pros price needs to just move on and actually try sorting out their life if they can't afford such an affordable game console. I'm so glad the ps5 pro is highly spec'd and the price point is what it is. People need to understand that not everything should be available to everyone.

It's actually baffling to me that gaming is a lot of people's favourite hobby but they aren't willing to pay such a cheap price for a gaming console that is definitely worth the asking price. It's not like the ps5 pro is a Nintendo console where its made of outdate and cheap parts but nintendo is asking a premium price for it. To each his own , buy what you can afford. Buying ps5 pro day one

@SilverHawk

Okay bot. Thanks for chiming in.

@sikverhawk it's not about the person's income, savings, net worth etc. personally I can comfortably go out and buy a PS pro tomorrow I could probably comfortably buy two and have maccas on the way home. Will I buy it or upgrade from the base model no chance.

But being comfortable with money vs value proposition is the thing here.

Does the PlayStation 5 pro and it's price represent a good value proposition and answer is overwhelmingly no Sony has failed to prove why I should care about the pro and it's only the diehards that seem to want to blindly throw money at them.

I sat and squinted at the footage in a 4k OLED Bravia tv trying to find understand why I should care and I walked away going I don't see it.

I'm sure it's going to be a technically better system but how much better and would I rather spend that 700 or for me 1360 AUD on a pro or sit on that cash for a switch 2 or just save it for something else in life.

Gaming is a hobby for me but it's not my whole life

If you think nit spending your money on a console that has failed to justify its existence is not having your life in order maybe you should look in the mirror first

outsider1624222d ago

A 100$ or 150$ increase to the pro would have been ok. And on topic anyone who hasn't bought a ps5 before, it's not worth it. Just get the standard ps5. For those that have it, well they can sell it if they can get a good deal provided if you wanna go all digital.

yeahokwhatever222d ago

i feel if i hadnt bought my ps5 on launch, and i had to make the decision now, i would buy the pro without hesitation. why? its better. like, obviously a lot better. its better and i have the money. its the same reason i dont drive a beater. i have a better car because i had the money.

repsahj222d ago

Yeah let's all buy Xbox series X now with 2tb HD for $600. Forget PS5 Pro.

Knightofelemia223d ago

Did I have a PS4 pro when it came out? No. Did I enjoy my PS4 slim? yes. Do I enjoy my PS5 slim? Yes. Will I get a PS5 pro? No. With the price of the console and disc drive I am at $1100 it's unaffordable. That $1100 Canadian can be applied else where when needed.

MaximusPrime_223d ago

I'm happy with my current launch PS5.

PS5 Pro are for people who can afford it, add to their console collection or just wanted it for their TV that can run according to PS5 Pro spec

yeahokwhatever222d ago

yep. I dont feel the need to upgrade from my launch ps5. mainly because there's so few actual PS5 games still. The biggest fail was making all these games ps4 first, thus turning ps5 into ps4 pro pro.

Einhander1972223d ago (Edited 223d ago )

The PS5 Pro will have the highest resolution and most stable framerate on over 8500 games currently made with dynamic resolution scaling and any current game that uses any upscaling like FSR and all future games made with DRS/FSR. And on top of that there will be games made for the console that have much better post processing/RT and allow you to play "graphics mode" at 60 fps instead of 30.

If people want that and can afford a premium price then yes they should buy the Pro, if not buy a Slim, PlayStation is happy to invite all customers regardless of console.

darthv72222d ago

The base 5 was doing that already for the same 8500 PS4 games. I know I was playing killzone sf and GoW at better frame and resolutions to the 4 Pro.

Einhander1972222d ago (Edited 222d ago )

Darth there are thousands of PS5 games that use DRS and FSR. And even in the case of PS4 games the PS5 Pro still will have a higher resolution than the base PS5 in any case where the game isn't holding 4k which is many.

And the fact of the matter is the PS4 didn't even start having DRS until the back half of the generation and FSR didn't even exist for PS4 games so the majority of those games are PS5 games.

PS5 Pro will have the highest resolution and most stable frame rates of any console for existing games and games going forward.

darthv72222d ago

Did you say "thousands of PS5 games"...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

There are 733 native PS5 games. GTFO with your gaslighting. It's okay to admit that this Gen has NOT gone according to plan. A Pro is NOT a good idea from Sony at this stage. They have done jack squat with the hardware they have as it is.

Now this is the kind of shifty situation I expect from XB.... never from PS.

Review - Blue Prince (PS5) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Kyle Nicol: "Even if you aren’t a fan of roguelikes, Blue Prince feels much more like an elaborate puzzle box. There’s a satisfying feeling in making it further than you did before, finding clues to a puzzle, then stumbling onto another piece of that puzzle a few runs later. Blue Prince is certainly one of the most interesting games of this year. It takes a fairly novel concept in a roguelike puzzle game, adding elements of deckbuilding and base crafting. It all comes together for a gameplay experience unlike anything else out there today."

Huge difference i must admit, but not sure i would notice without 2 screens next to each other.

Not getting this game still, i want a new game and im tired of remasters

Muigi1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

It’s $10 and there are plenty of games out there for you.

Flewid63823m ago

Remastered.....

You're forgetting 30fps to 60fps

Sony is now remastering games with 71s on metacritic.

Like that's a judge of anything
This game got scored before it was released.

andy8558m ago

Days gone is 85+. It got heavily marked down at launch for bugs where as others get a free pass for that. It's a fantastic game.

andy8556m ago

I spoiled myself by modding this game on my PC. Genuinely one of the best looking games I've ever seen. Whilst this remaster looks nice it just doesn't compare to that sadly. It shows the effort that these remasters could put in if they wanted

REDGUM53m ago

I so hope this game or DLC for those of us who own the original sells well.
Ive said it before, its an underrated game for sure & was unfairly judged upon release.
Please try this game if you haven't already.

For those who say 'i won't purchase digital only' you can pickup a hard copy for 5 bucks here in Australia, then add the DLC and you have a superb game for $20 or so.

Give it a shot, tell me I'm wrong After completing the game.

Game on gamers.
