Eurogamer writes: "Massive bravely peels away the many layers of Ubisoft open world-isms in Star Wars Outlaws. It's a fatal error."

"Ubisoft open worlds are not only fun because of their formula; they are their formula."

I don't know what to make of this. People complain all the time that AC had become too formulaic, now that that formula is gone, it's a bad thing?

So it's a non formulaic Ubisoft game and that's what's wrong with it?

Obscure_Observer261d ago

Eurogamer is back at its old click bait ways.

They´d dropped their old formula scoring games out of ten and started giving "seals of quality" instead. Since their new review policy didn´t gave them more views, they´re back with an "stars" system which is nothing but the old out of 10 formula in disguise.

Kotaku at least stand their ground and kept their words.

It's important to keep in mind this sole reviewer may not be the same as the "people" you're describing. There are some critics who are - somehow - diehard fans of the modern Ubisoft formula. So, seeing that disrupted as stated here might be a huge issue.

Plus, getting *away* from one established formula doesn't automatically mean the next game will be better. Perhaps the new design ideas are just as bad, if not worse.

I haven't played the game so I don't know exactly what's wrong with it. With that said, when you remove the typical Ubisoft structure you do need to replace it with something. Maybe how they structured the game and its gameplay loop just doesn't work well.

Damn, Eurogamer going for the jugular on this one.

Ubisoft after seeing this review, "It's treason then."

How much are the time savers?

I’ve seen some awful videos on twitter with the terrible AI and bugs. The fact some others can give this anything more than an 7 is insane

Andrew336261d ago

Probably because people like to play games and enjoy things they like. Keep watching your Twitter videos tho.

Profchaos261d ago

Yeah it's crazy it's like Ubisoft said hey our driving mechanics from driv3r were good let's just recycle that we don't need to improve anything invisible walls causing people to crash constantly

Inverno261d ago

Does it really surprise you? It's Star Wars, these sites will give it a hi score just to piss off the fan base. Look at The Acolyte rotten tomatoes score, the massive difference between critic and audience scores. Then you have the protag being female, which let's be honest it's always weaponized against the fan base. Don't doubt this game is anything other than mediocre Ubi slop. Once it's out officially people will show just how much these higher scores contradict.

this is most useless review ever.

Star Wars Outlaws review - ChristCenteredGamer

CCG writes - "Star Wars Outlaws is fun, kept me engaged for about 90 hours, and Kay is a fun character to explore four fairly large environments with. It does a good job of faithfully representing the Star Wars galaxy far far away and stays mostly true to the lore and established characters. There are tie-ins to several of the movies and shows such as Solo and The Empire Strikes Back. If you like Star Wars and you can overlook the subtle and unnecessary woke expressions, then you'll likely enjoy the game. In my humble opinion Outlaws is over-priced at $70 for the standard game, so you may want to wait for a sale."

Stuff that should have been in the base game. Probably would have had better sales, too.

YourMommySpoils32d ago

Don't think even that would have helped this borefest of the least Star Wars experience in history of gaming.

coolbeans32d ago

Nah. The Outlaws base game isn't starved of content. Its more the lacking quality-of-life features at launch and a design template that's fundamentally confused.

-Foxtrot32d ago

The first thing we see Hondo Ohnaka in for a while since Rebels / The Clone Wars and it's for this...

He's such a great character, I thought he'd have been included in something better. Hopefully we see him in Ahsoka Season 2 or the Mandalorian and Grogu film.
