Ubisoft Officially Launches Their Own Cloud Gaming Service to Public

We've been predicting this for a couple years now, but today Ubisoft officially launched its own cloud gaming service.

It's starting with a free Avatar: Frontier of Pandora trial, but likely to grow to include Ubisoft+ cloud games (including Activision/Blizzard) in the coming weeks and months.

Before digital and cloud gaming, owning a game meant having a physical copy. Now, both digital and cloud services offer access rather than ownership. If these services shut down, you lose access to your games with no way to recover them.

darthv72314d ago (Edited 314d ago )

Well, since they "offer access rather than ownership"... them shutting down wont really matter as they wont be "your" games to begin with.

right....?

anast314d ago (Edited 314d ago )

That's right Darth. This makes the customer a big sucker.

bradfh314d ago (Edited 314d ago )

When you buy full-price digital games, you don't actually own them. You pay to play but can lose access if the titles get de-listed. It's people's fault for buying digital games to begin with. Not saying cloud service is good,

Profchaos314d ago

Just wait until they make games subscription only or cloud only I can absolutely see this in the best future something like star wars outflows only on ubi cloud

With each game padded with 50000 hrs of grind, you're gonna need a decade long subscription.

blacktiger314d ago

When you are unknowledgeable you tend to talk smart.
This fight is about to change gaming industry forever.

If developer complain who's going to pay for the server? We say why not peer to peer?

Back in the days it was always peer to peer. Now that has changed to peer to ea server to peer. No wonder games are slow or lag

gold_drake315d ago

most of their games are huge open world games, im not sure how well they'd even work for streaming if you consider lag

Vits315d ago

Being open world has literally zero to do with lag.

Plus, it's only a matter of time before games start being made to compensate for the extra latency of streaming, just as they were made to compensate for the extra latency of LCD TVs and Bluetooth controllers. That is, if they haven't started already and gamers haven't noticed, just as they didn't notice their godawful TV and controller latency for literally decades.

Try Digital Foundry and you might found out

SonyStyled315d ago

O_o. Digital Foundry is back to be credible again? I swear you were the one who said “wait until the Digital Foundry analysis” for two games in the same genre a year or so ago… You kept hyping the waiting game, and when it finally came out you didn’t want to comment on it. I was disappointed in you. You aren’t as active anymore too. I hope you are okay

Profchaos315d ago (Edited 315d ago )

They love smoke and particle effects in their games that never works well when it comes to streaming imagine playing something like the division where the snow is falling next to a dumpster fire it would just be layers upon layers of vasolene smeered particles

StormSnooper315d ago

All these services will soon block physical ownership so that you HAVE to subscribe if you want to game.

JackBNimble315d ago

Not if people don't subscribe, besides their games are mostly shit so I would expect layoffs when their service doesn't work out for them.

CrimsonWing69315d ago

I don’t think I fully grasp the situation here, but can you explain to me what’s appalling about this?

EternalTitan315d ago

Sounds like a you problem.

XiNatsuDragnel315d ago

Total enslavement of your games nuff said

CrimsonWing69315d ago

@XiNatsuDragnel

But can’t you still Ubisoft games physically and digitally?

Like, isn’t this a second option like, oh I dunno, like GameFly meets Netflix? I don’t see how having the option is such a bad thing. I don’t know how GameFly works, but don’t you buy a subscription and “rent” games you don’t own?

I think having a streaming service for those who can’t afford to buy games, but still want to check them out for whatever the price is a month, isn’t a bad thing at all.

darthv72315d ago (Edited 315d ago )

It's a bad thing crimson... (even though its really not). It will always be a bad thing when it infringes on the old traditional way of doing things. /s

Personally... even as an old school core gamer (50+ years) I dont mind it at all. Renting via subscription service or even streaming does not hinder my enjoyment one bit. Its what happens when you get older and become more casual.
