Starfield’s 20-Minute, $7 Bounty Hunter Quest | Kotaku

Kotaku writes: "I’m playing a much-hyped yet poorly executed RPG that I just pumped seven bucks into for 20 minutes of immersion-breaking gameplay. I do love a big open world to explore. And I do love science fiction. But is this the future of this game? I certainly hope not."

$7 DLC that last 20 minutes? Now that’s a deal!

LordoftheCritics311d ago

Cannot wait to fully experience the loading screens.

Einhander1972311d ago

Haha, it's only 10 min's if you subtract the loading time.

But seriously, people talked down the PS5 SSD, but you can load into big open world PlayStation games in 7-10 seconds *from the console UI* ... That is the game fully out of memory to playing the game in seven to ten seconds.

MrDead311d ago

It's sad that the most exciting thing happening to Starfield is the $7 20 min DLC reaction. One day Starfield might reach a state where something exciting happens in the game!

just_looken310d ago

I agree but as someone that played it last week they now have a map not just any map but one with icons/locations ground breaking tech /s.

So for me i was amazed the game now runs it uses my hardware and we have a map that works.

What is next guns that do not look like crap and or are lore correct? no laser guns but fallout can have them for example.

Anyhow yeah starfield has had "amazing" stuff already added that in truth any open world game it would be standard but for tod its part of that 10yr dev plan.

Einhander1972310d ago

The bar for xbox been set so low that a game just has to run and have a map...

just_looken310d ago

@Einhander1972

Once again microsoft did not stand over tod's team this game took 10years over 500 people to make this year xbox took charge of zenimax .

This games failures are not on ms

not to mention i added a /s

SaltDaddy308d ago

Honestly. Was excited about the game before launch. I started playing it post launch and it was so boring that I completely lost interest and never finished it.

shinoff2183311d ago

It's really a damn shame. There's really no excuse. On the other hand is this the future of Xbox first party aaa games

just_looken310d ago

Na this has been a thing on mobile for years same on the switch over priced bs dlc is not new and paying for missions tell tale did episodic dlc years ago.

Sony also had dlc far overpriced like the last of us dlc or uncharted spin off after uc4.

The truth is its xbox we hate xbox but if sony does this like the have in the past 0 people will hate it because sony same can be said about nintendio like there docotr mario on mobile.

Einhander1972310d ago

You know that gave out Lost Legacy for free for everyone who bought certain versions of the game.

And Lost Legacy is a full 16-20 hour Uncharted game... and honestly my favorite one. The amount of dialog and banter alone was worth the price.

You clearly haven't played it, I don't think I have ever seen anyone say it wasn't worth the discounted price they charged for it with many people getting it for free.

just_looken310d ago

@Einhander1972
@Pixykont

You too show that sony can do anything and get away with it.

Yes i have played Lost legacy on pc it is not worth $50 day one i do not care 2 years later it was free.

The last of us dlc took over a year to come out $15 for 2 hours is a scam
https://www.youtube.com/wat...
I could have added the uncharted microtransactions on uc3 the micro cards on psvita or even there abandoned tech all over the place like the motion controls on ps3. psvr 1 ps4

Heck why not toss in all the overpriced vr games ps move games or even gran turismo on ps5 when it came out the grind/pay wall.

But i get it if sony screws your wife you say thank you and pay them $400 but if anyone else does it then its a crime because again sony is the new apple there customers will defend them 24/7

Here we are in 2024 thanking sony for 1hr at most gameplay for $15 they should just charge sony ponies like cellphone bills when using there system you all would love that and support it also.

Einhander1972309d ago (Edited 309d ago )

It's so obvious you don't know what you're talking about.

$50 for a 16-20 hour full game that was given out for free for millions of people
And the $15 DLC that was 4 - 6 hours worth of gameplay.

Compared to 20 minutes for $7.and that 20 minutes is being generous

GT5 makes all the content available for free, and the cars are earned by doing races the same as GT 1

And I just want to add, you're talking about GT when in Forza they have an actual battle pass then they charge you for car and track DLC on top of that. You're so caught up in the xbox ecosystem that you don't even realize how much less PlayStation actually charges in general.

Literally if PlayStation charges any money it's too much even when it's far less than what the rest of the industry charges is what your saying.

You're just on a rant quite frankly.

Bethesda got hollowed out after Morrowwind.

Einhander1972310d ago (Edited 310d ago )

Then gutted after Microsoft, but seriously they have fired at least 1000 people from Zenimax since they purchased them. Fired people then on top of that closed studios.

VincentVanBro310d ago

Starfield will be charging for new loading screen packs soon

Fallout 4 on Switch 2 seems inevitable, but what about Starfield?

A Fallout 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port seems like an inevitability, but what about other Bethesda RPGs like Starfield.

I think all games will end up on switch from Xbox. MS has embraced going to other platforms now if games aren't doing well on Nintendo MS may be more selective in the future

On playstation they have been quite successful

anast24d ago

I'm not sure too many people want to play Starfield.

Profchaos24d ago

Phils all but confirmed they are going in hard with the switch 2

TheColbertinator24d ago

All are welcome to Switch 2. Microsoft Games Studios is interested in long term profits and market value not petty fanboy thoughts.

i believe that 100%

but not cause its difficult to work the ps5, its cause the game itself is fundamentally broken asf

RaidenBlack33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Yea they need to fix it and I think they teased some major updates and patches this year. And as the norm we know even those won't be perfect and it'll take another year or two to reach a better state.
What Starfield also need is few more DLCs to fix the barrenness. .... and especially a substantial banger one with story and exploration to coincide with the PS5 launch and renew some interest.

dveio33d ago

"its cause the game itself is fundamentally broken asf"

Thanks.

I hate the rambling around pretty obvious things.

Such as, like you said, Starfield is just a big pile of broken code.

The latest news about Starfield's developmental environment just proved it.

badz14933d ago

If they release a PS5 version and it's still a loading screen simulator, they will just embarrass themselves.

Abear2133d ago

Corporate greed is the sole reason it’s coming to PS5. Expect the same game. This is M$ and Bethesda trying to recoup losses and capitalize on huge PS5 player base in an attempt to fund their next lame project.

neutralgamer199233d ago

Hopefully there is a huge major patch that gives the game a fresh chance

rudero33d ago

I believe it 100% because it was already being developed for PlayStation before they were acquired.

Not a rumor or a magical Microsoft push…
It was already in development.

-Foxtrot33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

They are going to have to do something to make you want the PS5 version

They can't escape all the negative coverage it's received since launch so they will need something to draw people in and honestly I can't think of anything.

It will sell, it just won't sell as well as they would have hoped for a Bethesda open world game now that they are launching late when opinions have already been made.

Hope it does pretty good, big fan of Bethesda.
But not gonna lie this game was fucking ass.

Probably my least favorite Bethesda style rpg ever.
Regretted paying to play it early.

moomoo31933d ago

It was so disappointing.. its not horrible but its a solid 7/10

Just announce it already.

lukasmain48d ago

They should try to remove the stupid overabundance of ridiculous loading screens for the PS5 version. But I assume it's not possible because of their crap engine and/or their laziness to do anything about it. But it is possible in some instances as some modders have done so a few times for PC from what I have seen.

It will be super jarring and weird for PS5 players to see so many loading screens, I worry it will destroy any potential immersion. I don't think I could handle it honestly lol. Combining that with the uninspired gameplay, I expect it would tank my motivation to play and finish the game.

Profchaos48d ago

Yeah I feel like it was also the creation engine it was core to why I gave up on the game the forced tutorials I was still getting 4 hours in just annoyed me it did t help I had just played through tears of the kingdom st the time which had zero tutorials and being forced to stop for a guided tutorial every 20 minutes killed me I have up at 6 hours despite being a huge fallout fan

Armaggedon48d ago

If one doesnt like the screens, just dint olay the game. Just like if one doesnt not like being handcuffed, dont play a fromsoft souls game. They are integral to the games design.

BISHOP-BRASIL48d ago

Are you seriously trying to push loading screens as a voluntary design choice rather than a technical limitation in 2025? Good luck with that...

Armaggedon48d ago

I dont know… is me having input delay when I try to roll in elden ring a technical limitation?

Bathyj48d ago

Meh.
I just started Death stranding. I don't have time for that.

LoveSpuds48d ago

I am trying to wrap up my Elden Ring playthrough so I can get a replay of Death Stranding in ahead of the sequel. That new video last week has be really excited, I loved the first game, one of my fave platinum trophies.

Bathyj48d ago

This is my first playthrough.
I didn't really get it when it released.
But after that trailer I decided to give it another look.

After 5 hours, I've built my first bridge. While ïts to early to be 100% sure I think I'm hooked. I'll see how I go. It feels like a game that hard to sell to someone but if you know you know

There's just so much Kojima in the game.

LoveSpuds47d ago

Just wait until later in the game when you start building a network of zip lines. Journeys that used to take 20 mins are done on a couple of minutes, it feels so satisfying 😀

Hope it continues to resonate with you dude, enjoy!

Profchaos48d ago

If what never a matter of if but when

MaximusPrime_48d ago

I have zero interest in this game but there are people who like it. People have their personal preference.
