Rise of the Ronin Review - IGN

A cool setting, Team Ninja’s mastery of tough-but-fair combat, and smart RPG design all shine, but map clutter and junk loot can get in the way.

Scores are mixed. Unfortunate. I'll wait for a sale.

Obscure_Observer400d ago

76 on Metacritic.

Can´t say I´m sad because it´s not available on Xbox.

ravens52400d ago

Why be sad, 76 isn't a terrible score lol. It's ok. It's a good game, just not great.

mariopasta400d ago (Edited 400d ago )

It's an open world Samurai/Ronin game set in Japan. I'm happy. There are not a lot of those games going around. When I wake up, I'm picking it up

notachance400d ago

If it’s an xbox exclusive you’d be screaming game of the year

Elda400d ago

If it was an XB exclusive you would be praising the game regardless & saying you're getting the game day one.

TheKingKratos400d ago

What a sad miserable excuse of human being you are

It's like your whole existence to be a slave to MicroSh1t

Kornholic400d ago

You were super happy about Starfield, though, which is a 6 or 7 game at best. Weird.

S2Killinit400d ago (Edited 400d ago )

Well, Im getting it day one. I dont care if IGN guy that played it liked or didnt like. I like what i’ve seen. And I love the setting.

Michiel1989400d ago

exactly, even if the game isn't a 9/10 you can have as much enjoyment out of it

lelo2play400d ago

Team Ninja's last game was crap... this one doesn't look any better.

Elda400d ago

Wo Long was not crap, it was a fun game with a score of 80.

raWfodog400d ago (Edited 400d ago )

Every time I buy a new game, it’s on sale. Because I never buy a game when it first releases. Always better for me to wait for updates and patches.

TheEroica400d ago

Ten downvotes because you won't shill for Sony on a mediocre game asking 70 bucks. It's OK bud. I up voted you.... I like gamers with standards.

Barlos399d ago (Edited 399d ago )

Obscure Observer doesn't have standards though. As for shilling, just wait until there's an Xbox story, he's all over it like a rash, ending every sentence with infinite exclamation marks. Honestly it's a bit cringe.

Day one!
Combat looks great!

mariopasta400d ago

Yep me too. Open world games set in historic Japan are exciting to me and they're pretty rare if you think baout it. Combat looks great, that's all I need

S2Killinit400d ago

This^

You should be watching Hulu’s Shogun series!

TrueRican69400d ago

It say how you let them company tell u it a 7 out of 10 then going out playing your self just cuz he did not enjoy it and shit don't mean you won't I will never believe anything ign say they just want push a review they not even enjoying the game.

Eonjay400d ago

One of the IGN's gave it a 9, another gave it an 8 and this one gave it a 7. Who do you believe?

blackblades400d ago

America IGN always have the lowest of all the IGN for some reason

S2Killinit400d ago (Edited 400d ago )

It complains about junk loot, but the game allows automatic selling of any loot below whatever level you set.

400d ago
S2Killinit400d ago

No, because generally xbox has no games worth defending for me. If they did, I would defend them if I had an xbox.

so tired of junk loot with team ninja games. i dont understand why they think players like cycling through a crap ton of garbage gear. it wasnt fun in nioh or any of their other games; they need to go back to ninja gaiden route and stick to one actual good weapon of a variety and move on.

raWfodog400d ago

That’s why they give you the option to automatically sell gear under a certain level, so you don’t have to cycle through them if you don’t want to.

mariopasta400d ago

It has an option to mass-sell all loot below any level that you set it to.

Eonjay400d ago

IGN conveniently left out that this really isn't a issue.

Chriswynnetbh400d ago

I agree I wish they would go the souls route and make gear more unique to reduce the junk loot. Tho I do like how it gives the endgame legs to go deeper into ng+

bartfart400d ago

Oh man their loot system is so bad. Even with the option to sell all junk I still have to look through it all......

Rise of the Ronin PC Review | Thumb Culture

Rise of the Ronin was the best breath of fresh air I needed when it comes to feudal Japan and sword fighting. Playing a game where it’s a mix of Dark Souls, For Honor and a splash of Shadow of Mordor. I would be recommending this game to those who love Japan’s history and sword fighting, but just on the PS5. The reason is that this game killed my 3070, and I’ve had to regress to continue playing the game. I would have tested it on the Steam Deck, but I’m not willing to lose that too.

So, play this game on the PS5, but if you don’t have one, you can play it on PC. Just make sure it’s a Super edition or a 4080 just to be safe

Now I hope they start developing Nioh 3! Those are my personal favourites. I loved Rise Of The Ronin but the openworld isn't as challenging as the close combat levels of the Nioh series in my opinion. I would love more Nioh a.s.a.p. ;)
