Sony reportedly taking drastic action following PS5 Pro leaks

Sony is reportedly planning to reduce its collaborations with third-party studios following an untimely wave of PS5 Pro leaks.

badkolo54d ago

sure they are, they are most likely the cause of the leak, it caused the hype they wanted before releasing any info themselves.

Eonjay54d ago

I thought they said they expected leaks. Either way I'm sure they wanted to be the ones to announce PSSR given how powerful it is combined with the GPU.

just_looken54d ago

fsr/dlss will be better than pssr because those too have been tested irl have real support devs have worked with the tech and the igpu inside of the ps5 is designed with fsr in mind.

Sony went to michelin/goodyear said your tires suck spent millions made a sony rubber tire displayed it as goat.

Going forward all ps5 games will have to be made with fsr support for base model then pssr support pro model a unnecessary extra step.

fr0sty54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Sony developed PSSR with the company that developed FSR... So to use your own analogy there, it would be more like Sony going to Michelin and saying "Help our engineers take your tires and make them even better."

And what you apparently didn't hear is, PSSR works on any game, any frame rate, and can upscale both the frame rate and resolution. It does not need to be patched by the developer.

just_looken53d ago

@frosty

You just proved my point they went to a company that has upscale tech to help them make upscale tech

Also fsr also works on every game but the game devs also add support too it you just do not grab a game from 10years ago say magic words and poof its there you half to add files to apply the fsr to work.

The ps5 base still needs a different version for its upscale than the pro were if the pro use amd fsr then the devs would not half to do double the work for the same result.

Here is a vid yes again fsr also work on every game but you need to inject it
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I think by your logic you just toss in a game chant jim ryan do a dance and poof upscaling works.

Everyone will see the ps5 pro pssr will be the cell processor debacle 2.0 but again i am mentioning something that no doubt 60% of you never heard of as you all were not around 2006-10 era

--Onilink--53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

@fr0sty upscale the framerate? What are you talking about? You dont upscale framerate… PSSR will do the same thing all other upscalers are already doing, how good is it in terms of quality will have to be examined when its out, but given how its supposed to be somewhat hardware accelerated as opposed to purely driven by software like AMD, I would expect to see better image quality from PSSR compared to FSR2. Performance wise you shouldnt expect any differences to what FSR already provides, there is a negligible diference in performance between all of the existing upscalers

Its also not something that will automatically be applied to all games, devs would need to patch it

just_looken isnt really making much sense either, because its pretty well known just how bad FSR is when starting from low base resolutions or when doing 4X upscale (its performance mode), so it is perfectly possible for Sony to improve on it in any number of ways. They aren’t really competing with DLSS or XeSS, just FSR, which has proven to be very lackluster (and poorly implemented) on consoles so far

Eonjay53d ago

Guys... PSSR is FSR 3.1. They obviously developed it together. They will both benefit from it.

https://community.amd.com/t...

Take a look... scroll down... what do you see... oh its Rachet and Clank... where else have we seen R and C used in an upscaling example.... oh right, Sony's PS5 Pro docs...

--Onilink--53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

It very well could be that PSSR is a byproduct of FSR3.1, that doesnt really change the fact that FSR3.1 is not magically boosting performance even more than it did before, its just fixing many of the issues that FSR2 had (which is still obviously very welcome)

The big difference would be if PSSR can be hardware accelerated on the Pro (since FSR is software only), which could help it get even more in line with DLSS and XeSS in terms of quality.

That said, if PSSR and FSR3.1 end up being basically the same, that doesnt really make it particularly appealing for devs to use PSSR over FSR unless AMD is really slow to adapt it for consoles (which is not that hard to imagine happening if I’m honest)

Also, Ratchet and Clank was probably the worst execution of FSR2 in the market (except perhaps Jedi Survivor), so its not necessarily weird for them to use it for their comparisons

Eonjay53d ago

@--Onilink--

I think you answered you own question. If PSSR is just an hardware accelerated version of FSR 3.1 (which funny enough uses the very same inputs as FSR), then of course devs are going to use PSSR... they don't have to do any extra work... its just faster. Its like calling two different functions with the same inputs... one is just faster. What would compel a dev to not use the faster function? That would never happen lol.

But the fact that PSSR and FSR are called in the very same way and has the exact same inputs seems to imply that they are probably derived from the same FSR tech... one is just software based as you stated and the other is hardware based.

--Onilink--53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

Because their work on FSR would likely be much easier to port to PC.

I have no doubt that Sony games will use it, but just as practically every single feature that is specific to one console, most developers tend to go for the faster/cheaper option and not really take good advantage of exclusive features

Assuming there is any kind of extra work in PSSR compared to FSR3, even if small, and taking into account the PC ports, I see most devs going for the easier choice (just as even now we see many devs go for the easier choice in FS1 instead of FS2 despite 2 being better and not that hard to implement)

Eonjay53d ago

I think you missed the point. There IS NO extra work. The documentation even says you can use the same inputs. This mean you are simply calling just changing the API name that is being called. Like thats it lol. Its literally as simple as changing the letters FSR to PSSR. There is no extra work or programming that needs to be done. It the same exact line of code otherwise. There is much more complicated work that needs to be done for porting than changing a single API name. It takes more effort to type this comment to you lol.

Rude-ro54d ago

I mean, Microsoft leaked the information during the activision merger..
There is no mystery with who released the information.
Due to their monopolizing of third party games, they also get closed door access.

MephiSkA53d ago

The leak from the Microsoft Activision merger simply confirmed that Sony was working on a PS5 Pro project. This new leak lists many important specs of the console and it is probably way more important for Sony that this information remains a secret, specially from the competition, for obvious reasons.

FinalFantasyFanatic54d ago

I'm not surprised, I expect that half of the leaks we come across are purposely released by the companies involved.

just_looken54d ago

It also showed that this "pro" model has a cpu bottleneck along with there pssr which will cause devs headaches

fr0sty53d ago

Still waiting for this extremely long list of CPU bottlenecked games to come out... 😆

People say "GTA6" as if Rockstar isn't designing that entire game around the ps5, knowing that it's going to be their biggest selling platform.

DickyD122653d ago

Just say you don't understand how things work without saying it man. Stop being a fanboy and just enjoy gaming.

TheKingKratos53d ago

Tbh it did the opposite effect on me .... It actually made me don't care at all for the pro

Never heard of a nondisclosure clause or an agreement?

KwietStorm_BLM54d ago

You think an NDA stops leaks? lol the tech industry might as well be a pipe with nothing but holes in it. A company is never going to take accountability for a leak, but you can't really hope to contain every single individual from doing the same.

Knightofelemia54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Well when I sign an NDA I honor it you tell me not to talk about the new machine or about anything that. Even if I work for the competition I will not talk about the topic or leak secrets. I hate gossip and I hate the fact people have no morals. And its better when the news comes right from the horses mouth. When and if Sony decides to announce the PS5 pro that's when I will accept the news rumors are rumors.

Cacabunga54d ago

Well not worse than when Xbox revealed the ps5 slim. Why haven’t they taken any drastic action back then???

S2Killinit54d ago

Because it would have been futile.

FinalFantasyFanatic54d ago

Yes, but some people are still willing to take risks, now if they get caught is the question.

Huey_My_D_Long53d ago

Oh please. You know whos annoying. People who get upset for a fucking corporate company sake. "I hate gossip and people who have no morals" over an NDA over a video game console? Do you have rope ladder to help you down from your high horse over NDAs? Please get some self awareness, and dial that shit back a couple notches.
NDAs should be illegal for the vast majority anyway. Not necessarily talking here, but alot of times its overabused by companies to hurt employers.

Like for real, the fact you think a person violating an NDA shows they don't have morals shows you are either really naive or just the biggest corpo ass kisser.

Who gives dam if u want go ahead u get 2 yrs out then ps6 I going to wait quite happy with my og ps5

Notsofast54d ago

PS6 is most likely 2028 Microsoft leaked that during the lawsuit

Kyizen53d ago

I have a day one PS5. If I sell it for $400 and pay $600 for the PS5 Pro that is $200 and I'm okay with that. I sold my PS4 for the same price I paid for the Pro so it cost me nothing.

jznrpg54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

It’s all speculation they say it in the article

generic-user-name54d ago

Sony sure do value secrecy highly.

jznrpg54d ago

What company doesn’t? Whenever a company has something they aren’t ready to share they would rather keep it secret until they are ready. We know a Switch 2 is coming but we don’t know the specs or anything. Xbox is supposed to have a new console sometime we don’t know the specs or name. All companies value secrecy

FinalFantasyFanatic54d ago

You don't want your competitors stealing said secrets or countering your product/service before it releases.

gold_drake54d ago

yeh, god forbid people want to keep their projects secret ha.

just_looken54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Unlike a certain person running for office most people value privacy/sensitive information and do not want stuff leaked out without there consent.

But its the 2020's people upload themselves taking a crap for $2 add revenue will sell there soles for social clout and put there lives in a snake oil salesman. There is a vid going out were a whole row at a concert had "influencers" in selfie mode dancing singing then they fought shit was well 2020's.
