Resistance 2 Single Player Post Game Thoughts

When Resistance 2 was announced and up until it's release, I swore I would not only buy the game, but I would finish it as well. That day has come and today I finished Resistance 2 and here's what I thought of the single player game within. Keep in mind, I LOVED the game. Thoroughly enjoyed it, well worth the $60 especially with the multiplayer gaming I have yet to touch beyond what I saw in the beta. This is me being a nitpicky bastard because I *did* enjoy it so much.

While I found Resistance 2's multiplayer to be pretty good, the single-player was merely average. I had a lot more fun with Resistance: Fall of Man's campaign than I did with Resistance 2's.

I enjoyed the single player campaign of Resistance much more. The co-op could be quite fun though I didn't like the fact that in most play sessions I didn't start at the beginning of each level. Multiplayer could be quite fun though a bit arcadey. I am looking forward to Killzone 2 and its more realistic take on movement; feeling as though your character has mass along with momentum. I don't want to take away from what Resistance 2 achieved, though I suppose it wasn't my cup of tea.

I think that R2 was over rated. 8/10 at best. People keep saying how great the co-op is in R2, but have they played any other game that has co-op? Rainbow Six Vegas and CoD:WaW have co-op modes that offer so much more.

I finished R2 and thought it was ok, but like some other people mentioned, I like the single player campaign better in the first Resistance. They improved the online part, but not by much. I'll take a quality 16 player online game over a 60 player HALO style fragfest anyday.

I thought the same as you the first time I played it but during my second run I changed my mind, the game is waaay better than R:FoM, I highly recommend you to give it a second chance in hard and superhuman.

Resistance 2 is the best first person shooter on consoles, ever. That's my opinion, feel free to disagree (you could make a case for tons of others, like Call of Duty 4/WaW, Halo 1/2/3, RFOM, or whatever else you happen to like the most). but Resistance 2 had an addictive class-based co-op that was my favorite co-op experience of the year, it has awesome competitive multiplayer with amazing weapons, map layouts, and the tactical game changers called "berserks" which added tons of depth to the multiplayer. The single-player campaign was awesome, colorful, beautiful, fun, with options like mirroring levels, arcade mode, and various graphical/visual effects to change the way the game looked. I thought it was way better than RFOM, at the very least, and in my opinion it gets unfairly criticized by gamers whom I do not identify with at all, because R2 was ridiculous fun, that's all there is to it from my perspective.

I play both R2 and W@W and I have to disagree on the co-op comment. I mean COD's co-op is just playing through a normal level. Zombie mode is awesome but it sucks you can't level up. R2's co-op is way more robuse and addictive because of the ability to level up and make your class even more badass the more times you play through.

I have been playing more R2 lately because there seems to be less kids, and R2 doesn't have the cheaters paradise of glitches like COD: W@W.

RFoM had it's own style within single player. It was more fiece and fast and it portrayed the old antique style very well. It had some of the most best and memorable weapons - hailstorm, rocket launcher secondary fire and the dual submachine gun with twin targetting system, loads loads. I really admired its health system as well, much like Halo1.

R2 has a good multiplayer and I really like the coop. The lighting and water physics were really impressive. The boss battles were much better. But I didn't like the COD like reticle/crosshair and necessity of iron sight aiming. Really slowed down the pacing. Although it looks better, it didn't feel like 1950s.

IMO i think a brown sepia tone like RFoM & Fallout3 would have worked and looked far more better than the current. It would have been FAR more favourable if the maintained the original feel of the game.

I agree with you on that. I beat Resistance One 8 times now. I have only beat Resistance 2 once. I don't plan on beating it again. The multiplayer is really fun though, I play that a lot.

I say this review was one of the very few fair reviews that I've read that I can agree with, I've played the game in and out (I have platinum btw) and have easily put upwards of 300 hrs plus on it but you'll notice the feww flaws its has the first playthrough, but all and all its a really good game.... one problem they me and my roommate have had and I've read online posts about it that damn glitch that erases all ur saved data at random< it usually happens at the end of and online match

I had a couple of complains with this game apart from it not have the feel of the original game, which was absolutely great in my opinion.
The game just needed time, it needed around 2-3 months of polish, which it didn't get. I think I understand the point of view of the writer. The problem with R2's graphics is that everything is flat textured, there is no drab environments, everything is fixed geometry. It works well for a game like Ratchet but for a shooter the art style was a big let down for me.
Plus they dropped the ball with story, it could have been great, they were just too concerned with those stupid journalists who said third person narrative sucks. They should have taken a bit more middle of the road kind of approach. The story wasn't flushed out properly. The game could have been better if we had the freedom to choose which weapon to use. I was highly disappointed when i had to drop the magnum for some other weapon i really needed & yeah the boss battles were just visual treats it would have been better if they showed a CGI movie instead of those lame battles.
Multiplayer & Coop is a different story, its totally addictive.

Loved R2.... then I had the fortune of trying the KZ2 beta, well I wont do into details (for fear of backlash :/) but I havent played it since. KZ made R2 medicore at best.

For those getting their knickers in a twist over my opinion, same goes for Gears, COD4/5 and pretty much every shooter.

anyway I think R2 is a great overall game and not a lot of games come close to what it offered... So many people online, coop and a story... It was a lot of value for money for me even though I only ever play online... Amazing online I thought it was much better than RFOM which I found disappointing

I wont go into details, one, because you've made it that until you've played it yourself you wont listen to other peoples opinion (which is fair enough) and two, I dont want to spoil anything.

But yes, in my opinion it is "that" good. FPS is my genre, I love it, there isn't many I haven't invested a good amount of time it, but KZ2 is head and shoulders above what I've played previously, Resistance 2 is/was a fantastic title, no doubt, but KZ just seems to have that special something (not just the visuals).

Honestly, I was I never played the beta, it spoilt me and has left me with nothing to play (shooter/FPS wise).

Demo soon (early feb) give that a try and see what you think, if yours a fan of shooters or FPS I really cant see you being disappointed.

the SP was good but not great, IMO.

i just didn't like how the story unravelled, that's all.
it was still pretty good and the swarms running at you was like WTF!!!ARRRGHHH!AWESOME

but yeah, i'm starting to like the Co-op now since i've been playing it recently.

To much hyped.. ps3 owner were in panic.. and then this game sold only 150k in the uSA, LOL.

1 week later sony put it into a bundle.. 1 million reached ~December.

I loved the campaign in R2, some slow moments but it did keep me content and wanting me coming back for more. The ending was kind of iffy but all shooters today are because they want to make a sequel, which i have no problem with. It makes me want to go back and play R1 again and when it comes out Retribution.

It's good to hear from people who loved the single player experience. To me it delivered the sensation of a big budget summer blockbuster action movie more so than any multiplatform game.

they way i see resistance.... i will be honest.

resistance 2 was a numbers game. it just played up all the numbers, ya 8 player co-op, 60 people online and all that. take away the numbers and i didn't think much was left.

i said this before, and i will say it again. both gears 2 and resistance 2 i felt were way over rated.

and as someone pointed out above, resistance 2 was lacking a lot in some of its graphical aspects. little things, like in the single player you had no shadow, the water effects, blood splatter all this stuff... it just looked horrible. say what you may, i played it, finished it to the end, thats what i think. if the game had been on the 360 it would have been bashed endlessly. the reason all these things were overlooked was because of the numbers everyone keeps going on about. there is more to a game then just numbers on screen. N99 had 100's on screen, didn't mean it was good.

i hated gears 2 so much i still have not finished it. it was my biggest disappointment of 2008... until i played resistance 2. after listening to all the stuff the fanboys were saying, i could not believe it was the same game they were talking about.

anyway, cut a log story short... i went back to COD 4. as far as single player fixes go, i enjoyed Dead space way, way more then both gears 2 and resistance 2 and rate it higher then both on that scale.

just looking forward to Killzone 2 now.

Resistance 2 is a good game but no where near the excellence of Gears 2. The arguments and debates were tough months ago before the releases, but Gears 2 easily comes out the winner.

Easily a 9 out of 10 in my book. Actually, I loved Resistance: Fall of Man too. I like the story and love kicking some alien butt. Insomniac games are pure quality and have 3 games in my PS3 Top 5:

Resistance 2
GRID
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction
Resistance: Fall of Man

Was hugely disappointed with GTA IV and Far Cry 2. Looking forward to Killzone 2. Hopefully it will top the list.

While I will admit RFOM's story drew me in a bit more than R2's story I still felt the story was above average, especially the ending which was a major cliffhanger, can't wait for R3!

They made two errors(well there are little niggles as well but big ones)imo with the SP. 1, They really should have kept the narrator/narrative from the first game as it suited the "Hg Wells" feeling of the series having the stilted posh bird in the first game way better than the intel(that you might or might not find anyway)of the second with snippets from the doc and stuff.2, The srt style, they went for the primary colours to avoid the "all current gen shooters are grey and brown" critique(see KZ2 and Gears2 for evidence)that follwed FOM and it represents 50's USA well(which they'll have wanted) but did leave the game feeling less gritty than most shooters(funnily in multiplayer I really love the change)with a serious tone.Made it a bit like a good animation rather than realistic.
Considering the genre, and it being the middle part of a trilogy(for now at least and middle parts ALWAYS pander to the knowledg that there's a sequel.See Halo2 ferchristsakes)I thought the overall story was fine.
Gameplay is great, weapons fantasic by and large and theChimaeran models are brilliant. Human models sometimes lacked detail for me though but generally I think the SP is about a 8.5 game.
Love the co-op with it's different approach and think the multiplayer really works as well wih a great feeling of scale(could do with some new maps with different problems/terrain etc though but they're patching soon so hopefully the stat wipes and maps may be adressed sooner rather than later.
Overall package is really good value with some great moments and richly deserves a 9/10 for me. Can't choose between it and L4D as online shooter of the year as they're so different(I play L4D on PC mind so it is different). I think a lot of people were spoiled for it after th Killzone2 beta took their breath away and R2 just happens to be a very different feeling game but in most ways was a massive step forward from Fom.

Because reviewers had complained about that aspect of R1 so openly. The irony is that now they're complaining about the lack of that 3rd person narrative, which they complained about back at launch.

I hope they bring back someone like Rachel, as R2 lacked any sort of cohesiveness in terms of story progression. In fact, it didn't feel like there was much of a story in part 2.

game was good, but HTF is the game underrated, every fanboy on this site was talking about it, same for alot of websites saying it was a halo killer. just like KZ, but KZ2 will be a Halo killer. i mean really. this game was not underrated. it was overlooked by a few people but not underrated.

dont get me wrong or anything to me it felt gutted, like rachel wasnt there to help you get a better understanding of what is what, the reload is slow R1 was fast..R2 reload is slow, Chimera could see the aura in R1 and in R2 you cant see that only with the auger, the game is great i like it
