I mean the animations, impact of gunplay and melee attacks, and the sound effects sounding like spitting watermelon seeds when shooting is what ruined it for me. I think they nailed the environment and atmosphere, but I have no idea how they looked at the gameplay and thought it was show-worthy. I’d have immediately hit the abort button after seeing that.

Stuart5756104d ago

Same here, rather play the original

SyntheticForm104d ago

Yes, it looks quite mediocre. Textures, gore effects, sound, animations - all of these are poor to middling. Those guns don't sound punchy at all and the enemy responses are just flat. I will give them credit on the general atmospherics though; they do look nice. Very unimpressive as a package though.

tagzskie104d ago

bloober team games are hit and miss, their games is 8 at best. Self proclaimed master of horror. I dont have high hopes for this remake and im happy if they proved me wrong. Everyone likes good game and if this one is great im a happy camper.

solideagle104d ago

which game was a Hit from the Bloober team? I am genuinely curious as I don't know much about them!

SyntheticForm104d ago

Bloober has made what are best described as cult classics, but truthfully their games haven't even reached that level of popularity. They've managed to climb over the sea of indie-horror devs and games to reach industry noticeability, probably due to crafting compelling atmospheres. Their games tend to suffer narratively, however.

Layers of Fear and Observer are probably their most widely known games.

Venoxn4g104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

They did decent job on Blair Witch (normal and VR version) , plus The Medium .. both games are divided by audience - some like, some don't.. I enjoyed both

tagzskie103d ago

@solideagle what i mean hit or miss is its either you like it or you hate it. Layers of fear and i think the medium.. Im just kind giving them 8 but their best reviewed game is 7.5 which is layers of fear.

FinalFantasyFanatic103d ago (Edited 103d ago )

I only really think of Layers of Fear or Observer when someone mentions Bloober Team, Medium was a bit of a flop.

Cockney95d ago

@SyntheticForm The narrative is already laid out in this one so a compelling atmosphere is all that is needed.

Still hesitant tho, I played the original and really enjoyed it but this just looks a bit meh, characters look a little off and the graphics in general look tardy at best, there's a lot of better looking games out there even from the early ps4 days, I dunno its just not getting me excited

ravens52104d ago

I wasn't either. Hopefully the finished product is more polished, graphics and mechanics wise.

dmonee104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

I agree, something about the trailer for this game looks kinda, meh….More and more games that are remasters are using the word “remake!” Now. Final fantasy 7, despite how people received it, is a remake! TLOU, RE4, amongst some other titles, are borderline remasters. Resident evil 2, on the other hand, felt more like a genuine remake to me then re4, despite the core of the games being the same. I know people will disagree with me, and what actually constitutes a remake or a remaster.

anast104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

If it has been built from the ground up, it is a remake.

CrimsonWing69104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

I’ll help you out. Remasters use the existing code and more often than not are just PC max settings for a game. A remake is just that, remade from the ground up. This is a remake and anything that is brand new code and assets is a remake despite whether it’s 1:1 like The Last of Us Part 1 or a reimagining like FF7 Remake.

outsider1624103d ago

Which tlou are you talking about? Tloupt1 was a remake. Tlou2 remastered..well...remaster. and how can you say res4 is a remaster? Its a remake. I dnt get why some people cannot distinguish between a remake and a remaster.

Tzuno104d ago

Cheap effects and animations, good graphics, cheap everything else.

Bogus!
Why would Sony do that and how would this benefit them?
1) It would piss off their media partners (IGN, Gamespot, Edge, etc.) since they would have to allocate resources fast to cover the event.
2) Risk of not having great coverage or proper coverage from the various source
3) It could give the impression that they are not confident in their own stuff.
4) They would miss the chance to hype the event losing viewers and losing free marketing time.

Again I'm calling it bogus unless it's a small showcase before the big one or because they want to announce that Hellbalde 2 is also coming on PS5.

SlothLordPootus6d ago

As far as I can remember, they typically give a week heads up for these sorts of things.

Lightning776d ago

I was about to say Sony always gives a week in advance for their show.

VersusDMC6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Last year it was a weeks notice.

https://blog.playstation.co...

May 17th announcement for may 24th show.

VersusDMC6d ago

Nintendo always tweets that a direct is happening tomorrow but no one cares.

Sony gives a week or days of notice and we get anti sony type fake outrage like this.

But good luck trying trying to get some Sony hate going...

Petebloodyonion6d ago

You just mention it!
Sony gives a week in advance NOT just a couple of days.
So I fail to see what Sony's hate movement I'm trying to start when it's a basic business strategy to not piss off your partners (ask Sega).
And I doubt it's hate to ask how it would benefit Sony in doing so.

thesoftware7306d ago (Edited 6d ago )

@Versus
Huh? What?

Bro you really should relax, if what you read was some kinda negative against Sony.... seriously, is that what you got from the comments?

Bro, he was debunking the rumor, and gave perfectly good reasons why it would be unlikely, and your Nintendo Direct comparison is different, as this is supposed to be a BIG Sony showcase, not a surprise 20 min direct, and Sony 's pattern has been one week.

Slow down warmonger.

VersusDMC6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

@thesoftware730

"1) It would piss off their media partners (IGN, Gamespot, Edge, etc.) since they would have to allocate resources fast to cover the event."

That is implying Sony is preventing them from doing their job properly therefore negatively affecting their business...but i guess that's a reach in your mind?

And it's not like they need that many resources to cover the stream. They just need 3 people to react to the stream live and make some easy articles made up mostly of summaries of Sony provided press releases. They would have enough time to "prepare" if it was announced with one days notice.

Petebloodyonion6d ago

@Versus
" That is implying Sony is preventing them from doing their job properly therefore negatively affecting their business...but i guess that's a reach in your mind"

No, it simply implies that some media all over the world might (keyword MIGHT) not properly cover the event like having proper articles for each game announced, or having a proper preshow. maybe some popular YouTubers won't have time to prepare or simply your local newspaper doing an article on tech and game.

So why would Sony take a chance?
What benefit would that give them?

Petebloodyonion6d ago

Before I get tons of replies for Sony given a week in advance, my initial comments are related to the notion that the Show could happen this week as the title mentions.
Now to be fair the complete article mentions that Jeff said the Show could happen later in May giving time for Sony to give the normal 7-day notice.

Again not trying to start a negative thing here just thinking that it's bogus that Sony will have a show this week

notachance6d ago

Yeah as much as I’d like to hear what sony’s 1st parties have cooked, it’s not their style to shadow drop a showcase.

Still waiting for ghost of tsushima 2, I’m ready whenever man..

KwietStorm_BLM6d ago

You're assuming media outlets don't know about it.

gold_drake6d ago

i can tell you that no one cares if ign is pissed or not.

watching a livestream and writing stuff aint the world. many habe done that before your god ign.

fr0sty6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

As a former gaming journalist that covered Sony & Nintendo's E3 conferences 3 separate times and was flown out to multiple press events for THQ, Square, and EA, let me inform you of this thing called an "embargo" that journalists are put under... it's very possible that details of this event have been given to the gaming press, but they are not yet allowed to discuss it. In fact, that may be where our leaker got their info...

Petebloodyonion6d ago

Tks for sharing this info :) but let's be honest I doubt that Jeff Grubb would left in the dark due to his notoriety while the rest of Gamespot ppl are in the knowing.

Going in with no expectations but likely will see something that resonates with me.

FinalFantasyFanatic6d ago

I hope there's something impressive in there.

Nah they will announce it probably, but it won't happen right away soon though yes.
