As it should be. Let's not let this happen again.

Eonjay151d ago

It takes two to have a deal. We can chastise Sony all we want but its as useless as having a whipping boy. The content doesn't belong to them. They can't/don't have the power to unilaterally make sure it doesn't happen again. Both parties need to work together here.

Christopher151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

I understand this. But companies should make sure to only agree to deals that prevent this on behalf of their consumers rather than sign contracts that ignore the rights of their consumers. If someone won't agree to that, then is their content worth having? And why wouldn't Sony/Microsoft/Whomever not explain why their content is missing and that being that the other side didn't want to ensure that the content wouldn't be available to the consumer later on? Put shame at the foot of companies who want to ignore consumer access to what they've paid for, don't just sign deals for your own profits. Eventually, those companies will meet your demands in today's internet age.

Christopher150d ago

Didn't think I'd see so many people anti-digital-rights. Guess consumers want to complain about losing them and with ideas that could maintain them.

Rynxie151d ago

Only because gamers made their voices heard. If people would have kept quiet, you best of believe, that they would have deleted content permanently.

Stanjara151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

It isn't resolved. It's deletion is only postponed for 30 months. After that goodbye.
Same thing happened with PSP and PS3 store. People got crazy... they postponed it, then continued with their plan.

I know that only small percentage bought Discovery content on PS... but what does this mean for our digital games???

You will own nothing and be happy I guess.

Oh and edit: People will meet their demands in today's internet age ;)

thorstein151d ago

All right! Now everyone clamber in here and release the cacophony of resounding cheer to outshine the vitriol that you spewed when you thought they would.

FPS_D3TH151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

Vitriol?? Please… Nobody had to think of anything, Sony literally announced they were and the reactions were absolutely deserved. I’m not cheering anything for what should’ve never been.

Gamingsince1981151d ago

It happens to many platforms daily, digital content is never owned by the people that think they are buying it, that's just the way digital content works. If losing stuff you think you own sounds bad to you, don't buy digital content

Well this can only mean one thing... more job layoffs even in the publication industry.

Jin_Sakai49m ago(Edited 47m ago)

“Layoffs occuring“

Yep. IGN now has a monopoly in the gaming media.

“As a result of the acquisition, some redundancies have been made across the UK-based organisation.”

“Gamer Network's publications are GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer (including six local language editions), Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and Dicebreaker. The business also holds shares in Outside Xbox, Digital Foundry and Hookshot (which operates Nintendolife, PushSquare, PureXbox and Time Extension).”

“IGN Entertainment is the division of Ziff Davis that includes IGN, MapGenie, HowLongToBeat, and Humble Bundle. It has acquired the websites from PAX and New York Comic-Con organiser ReedPop, which initially bought the Gamer Network business in 2018.“

Jingsing7m ago

When say IGN you mean Microsoft's chief propagandist.

Petebloodyonion20m ago

Probably Microsoft's fault!
They surely gave IGN the idea.
What's next IGN Pass?

But joke aside let's hope that this makes the news better compared to some of IGN branches

Jingsing6m ago(Edited 5m ago)

Microsoft and IGN work quite closely so it isn't a stretch to say this is a move to control the gaming press to get everyone singing from the Microsoft hymn sheet. Not a good look at all. It is transparent stuff like this which is backfiring in Microsoft's face. First they want control of all the games now the media.

Christopher13m ago

Oh boy! If we've learned one thing about recent news, corporate shrinkage of an industry via buyouts from those at top only leads to good things for employees and consumers!

Aloymetal8m ago

100%!!
IGN and Eurogamer...A match made in heaven!!

Lexreborn27m ago

Ummmm not sure that’s a good thing that all these review sites are under the same umbrella. There’s no guarantee that they will maintain a non-bias opinion not paid for by the highest bidder.
