I will if they release a physical version.

BeHunted557d ago (Edited 557d ago )

Digital games are cheaper than Physical Discs.

557d ago
Nyxus557d ago

My latest purchases were:
Forspoken for €15 (€32 in the PS Store)
Tactics Ogre Reborn for €25 (same price in the PS Store)
Valkyrie Elysium for €20 (€70 in the PS Store)

Kornholic557d ago

It is so rare that it is the exception rather than the rule.

Digital games also have no value, so it is really never the case that they are cheaper in the end.

BeHunted557d ago (Edited 557d ago )

@Nyxus

That’s because Sony prevents retailers from selling PlayStation Digital games, in other words, it’s another form of Monopoly.

Sony to Stop Retailers Selling PS4 Game Codes on April 1st 2019

https://uk.pcmag.com/sony-p...

spicelicka557d ago

Lol COD ghosts is still like $60 digitally. They can set whatever price they want for however long they want.

Also, the OPTION to have both digital and physical is obviously far better than digital only, regardless of which is cheaper.

BeHunted557d ago (Edited 557d ago )

@Spicelicka

Call of Duty: Ghost is currently $19.79 on the Xbox Store.

Nyxus557d ago

@ BeHunted: but at least I have the option to buy physical games, where different stores are competing against each other which means lower prices. I don't but digital games so that's not my problem to be honest.

frostypants557d ago (Edited 557d ago )

Digital games are cheaper for the publishers to get to consumers. They are NOT cheaper for consumers though because their is never pressure for retailers to unload inventory. So they wind up costing more for anything but new releases (for which consumers pay the same as physical despite the savings for the publisher) AND lose out on the inherent advantages of a physical copy. You're getting fleeced. Steam sales for PC are nice but the really good deals there are from small publishers who could never afford physical publishing in the first place.

TL;DR: the "savings" are all pocketed by the publishers and the digital store owners. You pay the same, they're making more margin than ever.

Knightofelemia557d ago

@BeHunted

Digital does go cheap to a certain point based on what the platform wants to sell it at and what the developer wants to sell it at. Part of the sale of the game goes to the platform it's on whether Epic, Steam, Playstation or Xbox. Second part is if your account magically gets banned you lose out on the library of games you own digitally. Everybody knows the physical cousin is going to be cheaper. People dump the game at pawn shops and even thrift stores who just want it gone so they will sell it cheap. With physical companies like Walmart have a dump bin where the game goes after its passed it shelf life meaning after its been on their shelf so long when a new game takes its place. Also with physical if the game is crap I can literally take that turd in and trade it towards another game or sell it second hand on say Marketplace. Not everybody wants digital I myself will always choose physical because I like to collect and have a sense of ownership.

Godmars290557d ago

Meh,

If a game supporter's going to the trouble to begging others to buy it when there's only one option, maybe the company should offer more options. Like physical versions.

MEGANE556d ago

U r right, I can share my games with my wife ps5, they go everywhere I go as long as i can log in, buy them on sale, and PSN does not charge me taxes In FL… I have not intentions of getting rid of my games, and they are way cheaper always on sale.

Ashunderfire86556d ago

I don’t know if you are living under a rock 🪨 but you do realize that Sony is being sued for overpricing games in the PS store right?

babadivad556d ago

On Xbox maybe. Games on Playstation Store and Nintendo rarely are.

1Victor556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

@behunted:”Digital games are cheaper than Physical Discs.”

I can go and boot up and play my metal gear solid 3 game any time I want on my console but a digital game works only till the developers servers work then it’s BYE BYE TO YOUR FAVORITE “DIGITAL GAME”.

shinoff2183556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

That's not true at all. You just need patience. Physical almost always ends up cheaper then digital. I just picked up gta 5 for ps5. I paid 15 bucks. The psn has it for 20 still. There's numerous games like this example. Digital in my experience usually ends up costing more

Anyway yea no , will not be buying Alan wake 2 unless it's released physically. Please release physically and I'll buy it.

Choice is key to this all.

FinalFantasyFanatic556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

Often not always true, sometimes the physical disc is cheaper than digital, I wouldn't say "digital games are cheaper" as an absolute.

@babadivad,

The best deals I've ever had on Switch games was through physical copies, especially on first party games.

recoctimocassirnff556d ago

This will probably come as a shock to you, Hunted, so please sit down before you continue reading.

The USA isn't the only country in the world.

Was about to write the same thing. Give me a physical copy and I will buy it.

XiNatsuDragnel557d ago

I would get it in heartbeat 💓 if it was physical.

seanpitt23557d ago (Edited 557d ago )

Yup not supporting digital only would have bought it if released on physical looks like a lot more people in the same boat if the sales numbers are low

Snookies12557d ago

I would buy it if it were on Steam... It would give me a reason to go through the original and the DLC that I own, but never got around to playing.

VersusDMC557d ago

Epic published Alan wake 2 so i doubt it will ever be on steam. If there are games published by Epic that have made it to Steam then maybe there's a chance.

Amplitude557d ago (Edited 557d ago )

Yeah. I'm just patiently waiting for the Epic store to die like all the other launchers that have attempted to compete with Steam. I aint contributing to their survival nor am i risking my money by putting it into a store that I wish for the death of lol

KeeseToast556d ago

@Amplitude
Yeah. I also want Valve to stay a monopoly so that they never have to put any effort on their storefront and we can keep the horrendous Steam UI forever and ever

FPS_D3TH556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

@KeeseToast interesting take considering the competition has yet to create anything that resembles the support and community on Steam. They only exist because they don’t like steams cut. They offer nothing for consumers.

FinalFantasyFanatic556d ago

@KeeseToast,

I want Steam to have more competition, but a UI change is pretty damn low down on the list of concerns I have, it's really not that bad, and it's still functional. I wish GOG had actually been better competition for Steam.

kranker556d ago

You should play AW1, it's fantastic

eagle21557d ago

I think it's a game MANY are waiting to play it (buy it) for whatever reason...but nonetheless still very interested! :)

Concertoine557d ago

Well, they put it on the Epic Store and refuse to make a physical version of the game. That loses out on a probably larger amount of ppl than they might’ve suspected

badz149557d ago

should have released it on BD for consoles. huge loss of opportunity there.

Amplitude556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

Can confirm. I bought a 360 just for AW1 and bought my first gaming PC when it was rereleased on Steam.

I REALLY want to play this but... I'll always refuse to support the Epic Store and large-scale games that so blatantly veto physical releases. You've gotta vote with your wallet sometimes and I'm happy so many people are taking a stand against this horrible release strategy

FinalFantasyFanatic556d ago

Epic is always more expensive than Steam for me in my country, so that's a hard pass for me.

Jin_Sakai557d ago

Incredible game. One of the best games of 2023.

TRYNDAREUS557d ago

Would love to play it but I am only a physical game buyer.

Jin_Sakai557d ago

I’m all digital. Hopefully they release a physical version because you shouldn’t miss out.

shinoff2183556d ago

I appreciate that Jin. One of theew people these days that didn't knock us people who prefer physical

There's room for all of us in gaming

I_am_Batman556d ago

I'm waiting for that too. To be honest a delayed physical edition can be a blessing in disguise these days as it'll have a more mature build of the game on disc instead of relying on patches to iron out the kinks. I hope Remedy understands that there is still an audience that prefers physical media. Considering they've previously released the Control Ultimate Edition including the dlc on disc on PS5, I think chances are pretty good we'll get a physical release eventually.

Relientk77557d ago

Make a physical copy and I'll buy it. Baldur's Gate 3 is doing it, zero reason Remedy can't with this game.

Fist4achin557d ago

Agreed. I'd love to see the numbers of physical purchases for BG3. I'm one of them.

-Foxtrot557d ago

And BG3 has gotten a nice little deluxe edition going for it with some nice goodies

Any money when Alan Wake 2 goes physical they'll do a limited edition with one of those Oh Deer Diner thermos they've been selling, possibly a variation of it.

wiz7191557d ago

Remedy by themselves can’t afford to pay for distribution and I think Epic isn’t trying to pay for that SMH .. I swore somebody said they would pay for it but I forgot exactly who that was.

shinoff2183556d ago

Lol if cosmic star heroine got a physical release, stardew valley etc remedy aint got no excuses. They are way bigger developers then most of these indies and thousands of indie games have managed physical releases

I wish they had released a Steam version on launch. I feel that should have been part of their focus right away from announcing the game.

LucasRuinedChildhood73d ago

They definitely wanted to but Epic published the game.

REDGUM73d ago

Would have made up alot of ground had they have released a physical version at the same time as the digital release.
I think thats where it bit them in the bum to be honest.

IAMRealHooman73d ago

honest question, have they broken even yet?

senorfartcushion72d ago

Weren't they whining over not breaking even a few weeks ago? No all-of-a-sudden they're talking about overspending on the budget?

Should have been a physical release as well at launch. That would have changed the numbers. Hopefully they and others learn from this digital is great but so many out there like physical too.

ravens52111d ago

Yup. I'd like to know how many physical copies it sold. I still haven't bought it yet, but I plan to.

jznrpg73d ago (Edited 73d ago )

I bought it right away but I’m sure it recieved less sales than it would have. I the end I’d rather wait to have dlc and game on disc, but you never know if that’s going to happen or not.

Probably would have sold a lot more had it been available physically at launch. I feel like Remedy's greed will eventually close them down.

toxic-inferno112d ago

I'm not sure it's about greed. I am one of the fans who waited until the physical version was released (I've only just played it, as a matter of fact).

Remedy's games are a hard sell in most regards. The nature of the story appeals to a smaller group of people than the average game with it's level of ambition. As a result, and to ensure they can release the game they want to make, they are required to partner with companies that impose restrictions and make decisions like seen in this case.

Remedy is not complaining that it has only just become profitable. They are used to this. I think it has been said that Alan Wake II is the game of theirs that has turned a profit quickest.

Out of all the developers out there, I think they are possibly one of the least greedy. Many other developers would choose to make decisions that increase their financial takings - Remedy seems to make decisions that allow them to release the game they want to release, without sacrificing the vision that they have.

Rainbowcookie89d ago

I agree very Niche games , awesome but pretty niche. I do applaud them to sticking too their vision instead of buckling to the crappy spirit of the age.

Tacoboto111d ago

Remedy's greed, talk about not knowing what you're talking about.

I'm guessing everyone forgot that Epic published and funded this game, and put the terms on its distribution...

RiseNShine113d ago

It took too many wrong decisions like EGS exclusivity and no physical edition.

113d ago
Scissorman113d ago

I'm glad this finally broke 2 million units sold, but Silent Hill 2 hit that goal in far less time and on fewer consoles. Remedy really needs to rethink putting its games on EGS.

Kassanova07113d ago

Good to hear. Next time do a Physical release day 1.
