Dear WB Games, read the crowded room

Imagine seeing multiple studios working on live service games get shuttered and games cancelled because of how oversaturated the Live-Service market is, and still dumping lots of money into more of those games.

That’s what WB seems to be doing, announcing in their latest earnings call that they will be focusing on turning their existing franchises into live service games full of monetisation and player-engagement.

They go where the market goes. Unfortunately, people buy into this shit and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

KeyAppearance193d ago

I guess the question is if that's really the case, we are seeing live games fail left and right, not every game is becoming successful, and the really successful ones are still the old ones like Fortnite, Apex, Warzone, Destiny

It feels like they are going where the market has already been a while back and wasting good IP

Which highlights the main problem with live service games... a gamer can only juggle so many at once. Many fail because they adopt the model while simultaneously releasing a sub par game, people jump off them quickly, it doesn't take long before they start feeling like a chore as opposed to a hobby. I think MK is the only IP WB could realistically do live service. Fighting game players are more likely to stick around and support the game giving it the stability it needs, look at games like SF6 and Tekken 7 for the proof.

Zaslav is just as bad as Jim Ryan. Both make these awful, clearly corporate scum mentality decisions.

Great news it shows that Nintendo intends to continue developing ports of AAA games to its next gen platform

H99h ago

Buying studios from embracer now is a great deal, they must be dirt cheap at this point, Nintendo is a opportunist, they wait until someone fall so they get their best deal

OtterX3h ago

That is some serious brain gymnastics you have going on there. 🤔

H959m ago

I didn't do any gymnastics I can assure you, honestly I don't know why you think that, not hating I seriously don't see why you think that

I hope someone buys Piranha Bytes, their future isn't looking good right now. I love their RPGs, they're janky as f***, but they have heart and soul.

Nintendo saw the Mortal Kombat 1 Switch port and were like, "Yeah, these guys are worth acquiring."

You can't make this crap up lol

Profchaos4h ago

Mortal Kombat 1 was never going to port well I'm sure they told wb it wasn't going to work but wb wants that sweet sweet 140 million install base

In the end wb approved the project cleared the milestones and allowed the product to release

SonOfOsiris47m ago

Yeah this guys ported MK11 which is great, Hogwarts Legacy which is great, and MK1 is now ok, play it every day
