Resident Evil Village for iPhone will Cost $40, Coming Next Month

The release date and price of Resident Evil Village for iPhone, iPad and Mac has been announced, asking mobile gamers to invest $40 USD.

1nsomniac211d ago

Why anyone would pay that to play something on a phone is beyond me.

VenomUK210d ago

Because people may want to play the game and not everybody has a dedicated console. Give it around seven years when everyone in India or the African nations has a phone that can run games like these and then publishers will be laughing.

The defunct console manufacturers like Xbox and PlayStation not so much.

Kakashi Hatake210d ago

If they have interest in a game that requires this much dedication, chances are they have a console.

Knightofelemia210d ago (Edited 210d ago )

Do you even know what the word defunct even means?

No longer existing or functioning.

Something like a Betamax, laserdisc, VHS, rotary phone, 8 track those are defunct. A company that is no longer around is defunct.

Xbox and Playstation still seem to be existing and functioning to me.

You also have to remember some parts of Africa and India people are poor so getting an iphone no matter what number it is would be a luxury. And most likely sold off to feed themselves or their family. Gaming in some parts of the world is a luxury whether a console or on a crappy cellphone. Owning a cellphone is also a luxury in some parts of the world as well.

EvertonFC210d ago

So the average mobile gamer has a controller?

CobraKai209d ago

Ah. So the fate of console gaming lies in the hands of India and Africa. Mind blown 🤯

I don't know if these games support touch screen controls I think you need a controller of some form to play it.

If I was commuting for work and owned this phones I'd probably pick it this and a few other games / controller while waiting for the switch 2.

Alexdrew123210d ago

From seeing previews of it running it does have touch controls but the “touch controls” are literally just the buttons of a controller spread randomly around across the screen so they suck

Tacoboto210d ago

If mobile gaming is to evolve beyond F2P MTX crap, someone has to start somewhere.

Delivering two of the best and most-detailed Resident Evil games on mobile without making "Mobile" or "Lite" versions would of course cost higher than expected.

Also, Village and 4 are cross device apps; Village released separately on MacOS but is a single purchase for iPhone and iPad, and RE4 is a single purchase across all three Apple OSes. You're not stuck to just a phone

EvertonFC210d ago

The screens always been to small on mobile for me, tried batman Arkham, driveclub and puppeteer on a 5”2 screen size and it's impossible.

ravens52210d ago

Why is RE4 $60 and this $40

Profchaos210d ago

I assume cause re4 is a newer game while village has been out for a few years generally

Kakashi Hatake210d ago (Edited 210d ago )

Sorry, phone batteries take up enough with internet, steaming, and messaging. Don't need to degrade the battery further with dedicated games I could be playing in higher quality on console /big screen TV. Phones games are for passing time in lobbies, during travel, or down time at work.

Profchaos210d ago

That's my major concern it's one thing to take a switch traveling if it runs out of batteries it's not a big deal but my phone is also my wallet , license, navigation, authenticator, not to mention the thing I use to contact people.so running out of battery on that is far more of a problem than a dedicated consoles running out of battery

CrimsonWing69210d ago

Or remote play it if you already own it.

I’m sorry, but there’s no way in hell I’m paying $40 to play a game on my phone.

goldwyncq210d ago

Well, you're obviously not the target audience for this but a significant number of people, mostly in Asian countries, do their gaming exclusively on phones, so this is a nice gesture.

ravens52210d ago

You can hook your phone up to your TV and play that way via controller. I'm never replacing my console with a phone unless is a ps console-phone. But it's cool.

I wish Capcom would upgrade Resident Evil7 to be playable on PSVR2.

babadivad123d ago

I said I was gonna try PSVR this time around but I still haven't forced myself to take the plunge yet.

Babadook7123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

Do it when you have the time space and money. Think it through. It’s so worth it though.

The_Hooligan122d ago

I am thinking about purchasing PSVR2. I tried the headset and it felt comfortable even with me wearing glasses but it was only for like 15 mins. I didn't try it for a long time. So the only thing keeping me hesitant about making the jump to VR is not knowing how it would feel wearing glasses and playing VR for like an hour or two. Also, have you tried playing non-VR games with the headset. Meaning can you play spiderman with the headset. I know it won't be in VR but can you still use the headset to play regular games. Just curious to know what that is like.

Babadook7122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

@The_Hooligan

I don't really recommend non VR games in the headset. It's much more blurry than even a 1080p screen I would say. Although it does work.

As someone who did wear glasses in VR and also struggled with the sweet spot a bit, I recommend getting HonsVR prescription lenses and especially the Globular Cluster comfort mod to help comfort and keeping the sweet spot.

Thanks so much for the info. Much appreciated. Happy gaming! 😊

Same, I bought PSVR1 and pretty much every AAA studio took a shot at making games for it but on PSVR2 it is just Sony and a sea of indie Quest ports which doesn't justify a premium $550 tag. I really want to play more VR but most of the software is pure garbage. I wouldn't even get $550 dollars worth of entertainment if you go by the dollar per hour metric for fun, it just isn't there. the few good games on it might get you close to 100 if you are hardcore.

I think Sony should have made their headset standalone with comparable or better power than the Quest. That would have gotten rid of the PS5 entry price and got non PS players involved too. But an added premium feature could have been to go wired with a PS5 if you have one for those few premium AAA games that can only run on a PS5.

EvertonFC122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

Loads of awesome games , if you ONLY think a few titles good games are out then VR was never for you.
The problem is gamers think every game released would have a VR hybrid version and that's the gamers 1st mistake.
VR2 is about a year old and I have over 20 games I really enjoy and put plenty of hours into.

EvertonFC122d ago

"force yourself".

That right there is WHY you shouldn't bother.
I love VR but if your going to force yourself then you are already going into VR negatively.

ChasterMies122d ago

Winter is a good time to try PSVR2. I just look outside and I’m ready to strap on a headset and stand uncomfortably for an hour.

1nsomniac122d ago

As a launch day owner in its current state it’s not worth it unfortunately. Almost a year later and it’s still missing even the most very basic of features. And it seems to be pretty dead on arrival. It has great promise but as usual it was ditched out the door by Sony.

Abnor_Mal122d ago

Just curious to know what basic features PSVR2 is still missing?

1nsomniac120d ago

You can’t even watch 3D videos on it. I mean seriously it’s a VR headset and it can’t watch VR movies!

It sounds more and more stupid each time I even hear myself say it. Imagine designing it that way! It’s absolutely insane that something that basic is missing. That’s VR 101, literally every other headset starts with that basic function. PSVR2 STILL can’t even do that!

Babadook7123d ago

Yeah that’s a strange one. Maybe they don’t like racing games.

Abnor_Mal123d ago

There’s so many PSVR games that need an upgrade to PSVR2, the cumbersome Move controllers did limit the enjoyment of some games.

darthv72122d ago

i just recently found that i could use the move gun attachments for rush of blood and that made a huge difference in playability. I only wish that was upgraded to the VR2 along with Vader immortal.

Abnor_Mal122d ago

I have to rehook my camera for PSVR, and attach that adapter thing they gave away and give it a try, headset is packed away at the moment.

S2Killinit123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

If gamers ONLY like 10% of my list you have your answer, DONT buy VR. I find my list to be a great 1st year for VR2 personally and I find it even crazier how YouTube content creators and gamers shite all over VR2 when its been a great year.

darthv72122d ago

Beat Sabre is definitely better on VR2 compared to VR1. Same with Thumper and Rez infinite.
