I'm getting one. We'll, my girlfriend is getting me one for Christmas

derek581d ago (Edited 581d ago )

Worth it.

RpgSama581d ago

I play mostly RPGs, this is perfect for me so I can both be with my wife or kids and be doing my own thing at home.

S2Killinit581d ago

Im getting one becaise certain games are better on portable and that way I can bust it out and play anywhere

Profchaos581d ago

Anywhere in your house right

Old McGroin580d ago

@Profchaos

Why would he only play it in his house when both devices don't need to be on the same network??

S2Killinit580d ago (Edited 580d ago )

Anywhere there is wifi . You are misinformed. Please research.

senorfartcushion581d ago (Edited 581d ago )

My fiancé has offered, I'm still not sure. I'm thinking of a Steam Deck considering.

Espangerish581d ago

If you have a choice between the two the steam deck is far better as it does so much more. Deck costs more though so if money is tight the portal is a nice choice.

Barlos581d ago

I have a Steam Deck too. They are a lot of fun. Sure it can't play every game but I don't have a gaming PC and for the type of games I play it works just fine, and it's incredibly comfortable to use. Also I love handhelds so it was a no brainer.

As for the Portal, at first I was really against the idea but I'm kind of seeing the appeal now. As said I love handhelds, and our PS5 is on the main TV in the living room, so when my girlfriend is watching something the Portal will allow me to continue playing. Of course that's already a possibility with remote play on my deck or phone, but I lose the excellent Dualsense controls, which is the real strength of the Portal for me.

Babadook7581d ago

You’ll likely get better graphics on your portal.

This is a duplicate post. Can the mods delete it for me please?

SegaSaturn669581d ago

No just show the duplicate post to your gf and demand she buy you 2 portals. One for entry, other for exit.

Leeroyw581d ago

You wouldn't know his girlfriend. She goes to a different school.

rippermcrip581d ago

Biggest misconception about it was that it only works on your home wifi which is false. There are still people who don't understand that to this day.

I'll likely be getting one assuming the lag and response time is acceptable.

porkChop581d ago

That's Sony's fault. Just look at the official product page.

"Play your PS5 console over your home Wi-Fi with console quality controls using PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player."

Every time they mention Wi-Fi they specify "home Wi-Fi". The only place that mentions you can use any Wi-Fi is the FAQ at the bottom of the page. This should have been clearly communicated as one of the key features.

TFJWM581d ago (Edited 581d ago )

They don't want to hype it like that and then get the huge backlash of people bitching how it is not working (lagging) off the home network.

DarXyde581d ago

I have to agree with Pork chop.

They really did not communicate its utility very well to the public. Any negative critiques to the product's image is their own fault.

Even if we argue that they didn't want to over promise, that's not the issue: all they had to do was communicate what it actually does. Don't embellish, don't undersell. Just tell us what it does, what it doesn't.

They still messed up with Bluetooth connectivity. I wouldn't buy one. It really isn't for me.

monkey602581d ago

I'm planning on getting one purely for home WiFi. I compete with the wife and child for the TV at home and can't find time to play a game because of it. I am hoping the portal works smoothly and then I'll be all over it

CrimsonWing69581d ago

You only have one TV in your house?

monkey602580d ago

Sure do. The little fella is too young to have one in his room and I'm a believer of keeping TVs out of bedrooms myself.

NotoriousWhiz580d ago

I also live the no tv in bedroom life. It's great! Means the bed is only used for talking, sleeping, and ...

DickyD1226580d ago

I have multiple TVs in the house and I'm still getting one.

Profchaos581d ago

Yeah there's a lot of variables that the average person isn't going to meet to use it outside of them home

randomvoice581d ago

I'm getting one as well. Wife likes to have me around while watching TV. I can play my PS5 on it. Win win.

talocaca581d ago

I love how people say "I want to buy one for ........." and somehow their comment gets down votes. Many of us are actually excited about it and for the price it seems like a good accesory.

Babadook7581d ago

This is known as astroturfing. MS will make a lot of accounts to vote on things like this. And yes. There’s a lot of evidence of their use of it.

Neonridr580d ago

@Babadook7 - and this is known as spreading false rumours.

Babadook7580d ago (Edited 580d ago )

@neonridr

Uh no… There’s nothing false about what I said.

http://techrights.org/o/201...

derek581d ago

I will get one as there are times I do not wish to go to my set-up to play games in the house.

At last! One of the most important missing feature is finally here. Pausing the game during rest mode is really needed.
