Xbox 360 slams Playstation 3 again?

In the March 2007 issue of Game Informer Magazine "NBA Street Homecourt" was recently reviewed. As expected the game had scored a solid 8.75. However, something unexpected was that the game looked the best on the Xbox 360 as opposed to the Playstation 3.

Quoted: "I'd give the nod to the 360 in terms of visuals, but either way this game features great texturing, character models and jaw-droppingly smooth animations."

NBA Street looks spectacular in 1080p on my TV via the downloadable demo on live. As far as it looking better than the ps3 version. That shouldn't surprise anyone. Same with FEAR and every other 3rd party game. The 360 is a beast of a machine...Who would have thought that a console that costs 200 dollars less and launched a whole year ahead of the competition would be outperforming it? WOW...When the xbox launched a year after the ps2....it spanked the ps2 from day one in regards to graphics and game performance. Sony just had all the exclusives at that time in history...and MS was the new kid on the block. I have the ps3 and the 360. And there isn't one game for the ps3 that has an edge over "ANY" of the 360 games. Now, of course previews always hype up the ps3 games prior to release...saying things like "we are taking full advantage of the Cells unique abilitities...."...well no duh.... You have to use the cell...its at the core of the ps3. If you didn't use the Cell, your game wouldn't exist. ha ha ha ha ha...I always get a kick out of that repeated statement. Folks the Cell is a processor. The 360 has 3 processors....Both systems handle code entirely differently. We all know from the games released thus far which system handles game code the best. No need to argue about it anymore.

First of all the 360 does not have 3 "processors" it has 3 "cores", there is a difference, you should learn what they are! there can be all sorts of latency and bandwith differences between those two architures. And 2.) the way you put it, is to insinuate that the PS3 has one "processor" (as you put it) whereas the 360 has 3. Thats very snaky if you ask me, but then again, i think that you are just a snake. One has 3 cores and the other 8/9. (9 in total, but one shut off). The 3 core design is of a 3 general purpose desgn and the 9 core of one general purpose and 7 specialize purpose cores.

WOW...I have to say I love your tired catch phrases...but to the point, you don't have the slightest clue what you are talking about. You hide behind owning each of the next gen consoles, but you don't know anything about what happens behind either one of them. You talk about the 360 being better than the PS3 for developers and for next gen gaming and the like, but you don't realize that it can't be boiled down to those blanket statements. Each one of those has to take into to account so many different variables its ridiculous. As far as which is better for developers, that depends on the developer and their inclinations. If the developer is more C/C++ oriented, then yes, the 360 has the advantage in terms of ease of programming. However if the developer is more inclined towards assembly programming, guess what, they are at a deadlock when it comes to ease, but the PS3 has more power that can be hauled out of it. I'll give you a couple other hints, the most efficient, performance oriented, code ALWAYS comes from assembly coding, not C/C++. A compiler will never EVER beat even a decent assembly programmer. What it comes down to is they are both great machines, but oriented in different ways. Microsoft's aim is to make things as easy as possible for the software developer, while Sony's goal is to give the developer as much power to work with as possible, even if it is tougher to access. For this very reason the learning curve is significantly higher for PS3 production and that will be reflected in the games throughout its life time, however the games will improve incrementally with each year, and while yes games will also improve with the 360 over time, the level of improvement will not be as steep. As far as next gen gaming is concerned, the concept of calling one system better that the other is simply idiotic. You say that there is not one game on the PS3 that has an advantage over a single 360 game, and that comment just solidifies your status as a 360 fanboy on this site. Owning each console doesn't negate that possibility so don't even try to point that out. I own both the 360 and PS3 as well, and there are games I enjoy on each more than some games on the other. Its simply a matter of opinion, and you opinion is hardly law. Don't blindly call me a fanboy as you have in the past and accuse me of just hating Microsoft, I'm actually interviewing with them for a full-time technical position within the next couple of weeks. My allegiances are not skewed nearly as much as many people on this site, including yourself.

Its obvious with EA anyways. Since they have been responsible for a large portion of the Xbox to PS3 ports. They are just not Sony freindly. They throw something together on the Xbox360 and then PS3 obviously gets the s)-(it end of the stick. Thank God its only EA though. Vivendi well they "claim" they are going to touch up F.E.A.R. lets wait and see. Homecourt will be a good play and the fact that it also stated in the article both systems look great. Not to mention its not a "devoloper actually opinion" I leave it up to myself to call this one. Money says real multi plat games such as "Assassins creed,GTA4 and Unreal Tournament 3" will be alot more fair matched. I cant see such highly acclaimed games turning to crappy ports for either machine.

Bethesda is upgrading the visuals on the 360 version as well, by bringing the new shaders to the 360. Anyone who still uses Oblivion in their argument is grasping at straws. Check out last week's 1up podcast...they slam the IGN "article" and point out that they have seen the updated version on the 360 and they look EXACTLY the same.

Some people are still using the PS3 "optimizations" to imply that there are still improved PS3 visuals...there are not. Period.

Oblivion is a FULL YEAR later, what do you expect? Ofcourse if they have longer the time they can get more out of it. The 360 version was almost a direct port from the PC, almost no possibility for optimisation there.

Because Kamakazi, DJ is lying and twisting always, with every game proving the 360 is the better choice for gaming he has some so called 'dev' info, just from another site. It's hilarious. Building the PS3 engine from scratch, and you have to give Bethesda props for pulling it off in such a short time frame. In case some of you are wondering why porting between the 360 and PS3 is so much harder than back in the PS2/Xbox days, it's because ATI and nVidia graphics cards use completely different compilers for shader operations and such, and code that runs well on the Xenos will basically screech to a halt on RSX (and vice versa). The CPUs are also entirely different.

A few titles are actually escaping these 'porting problems' by creating separate teams for each version and simply sharing in-game assets. NBA 2K7 is a prime example of how proper planning can lead to successful multiplatform development.

Well the ps2 version of Resident evil 4 didnt look as good as the gamecubes and that came 9 months later. 1 years extra dev time has nothing to do with it, if the Cell processor is utilised properly then the Ps3 games will look superior ie, Motorstorm and Lair. Oblivion is another perfect example and when FF13 is released then its game over.

As for Oblivion, the 360 version wasn't a PC port, it was developed from ground up for the 360. Something that can't be said about the PS3 version. Oblivion is surely a better comparison than EA games, cause EA always developes for one platform and then simply ports to other without using it's advantages. Since 360 is out, all EA PC sports games look worse than the 360 versions. Is it cause 360 is more powerful? Nope, PC eats 360 for lunch, they just concentrate on the 360.
As someone already mentioned here, best comparsions can be only made with exclusives as only then you know for sure they were developed from ground up for given hardware. As of now it looks that only the PS3 can deliver great graphics together with good physics and many enemies on screen. Examples are MotorStorm and Lair. Which 360 game can do that? As of now none and I don't see any insight.

Sigh....The PS2 was inferior to the Gamecube in power, thats why many people choose the gamecube version over the PS2 version. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are the same in terms power. If i ported a game such as oblivion over from the Xbox 360 and PC to the PS3 and i had 1 year more dev time then of course it would look better. Many people on this site need to think before they type as they don't know what they are talking about.

If a game is developed for the 360 and is ported to the PS3 why would the game look better on the PS3? We already know the programing is different. We know that EA does't seem to care about the PS3 and how it's games look on the system. Personally, as a PS3 owner, I couldn't care less about ports from companies such as EA. As an Xbox owner you should be happy that EA likes to develope games for your system. So have you played or read the reviews of the above mentioned games to claim that all these will be AAA titles? SO how long do we have to wait for these gems to come out? MOst of the ps3 titles are getting way delayed, i guess the hardware is not that easy to develop for. So if i was EA i would do the same and see that the titles come out faster so as not to waste money for a a mere million copy sales on a platform which is difficult to develop for. I would rather invest in console which has a huge base a year of a headstart and is much easy to develop for.

They both are great systems. I have both like both so ill get the best of both. Reason for buying Sony because the dvd formate is going to bluray and more money means more for games so give the system time that is the best thing for Sony and Xbox will still put out good games not movies. The Xbox came a long way from first system but so did Sony. So i don't hate ether systems love games so why not like both. helps out the overall market for all of us.

but if you don't have x-box live then the 360 games become very boring FAST! because of the limitations of DVD the games last around 6-8 hours on medium mode.(pleas done mention oblivion it is suppose to be long its an RPG)
if you have the ps3 then the games are mostly longer than the 360 but the online lacks, so buy the 360 for great online and exclusive gaming and maybe soon tv on 360(can't remember the correct term). buy the ps3 for its immerse connectivity, next gen player,, exclusive games.

I do think that as time goes on there is more information to be put on discs and it may make a difference. We'll see - it's been the way games have been going since gaming began.

I think it would've been an advantage if the 360 had a next-gen drive, since all developers would jump forward, or at least not feel limited by the dvd format, or not need to spend time optimising code etc to get it on dvd. Then games may have taken a jump - but as it stands the 360 having a dvd drive will mean all games will be able to fit on a dvd even if the ps3 does have blu-ray.

The reason alot of games look worse when ported to the ps3 from the 360 is because they're dump games. Developers put in minimal effort to transfer a decent version of the game across because its a cashcow. Its a new audience and easy money. Tony Hawks looks better on the 360 than ps3 yet Phantasy Star actually looks almost better on the ps2 than it does on the 360 which is amazing, but its because they're dump games. All dev have different talents. Some dev can take better advantage of the 360's hardware and some can take better advantage of the PS3's hardware. That is just the way it is. If Gears of War looks better than R:FOM that does not mean that the 360 is more powerful than the PS3. You guys will see this happen through the life of both consoles. Game and be happy. Some people spent more time here than gaming. Why must be always compare consoles. Sony and M$ took a different approach with there consoles for different vision that they had based on the company. Sony is a hardware company by nature and M$ is a software company. Sony has a vision for the PS3, and M$ has one for the 360. If one offers more in one area than another that does not make it better, it just makes if different. If your console delivers what you want from it then it's the best solution for you. Every console has they're merits. In the case of this game the 360 version is superior. Graphics and online are better (because of Xbox Live). If there is consistently a difference between one version over another then we will know the current gen winner (excluding the Wii). Kinda fun to speculate.

PlayStation 3 is definately NOT inferior. Yet it's not superior as Sony hyped up before it's release, and that's the source of all these problems. If people believed that PS3 was a system which is pretty similar to Xbox 360, with it's Blu-ray enchancement, then it wouldn't be surprise for anyone that some games look kinda washed out on PS3 due to it's complicated programming system.

Besides, these games are all old games, what is important for a console is it's exclusive titles and they generally mark the best for those systems. Look at God of War 2, look at Halo 2. Those probably represent the best for last-gen systems, and well Xbox was a better system in terms of graphics yet PlayStation 2 market still keeps expanding.

Now if we look at a PC game, later adapted to 360 with ease (Condemned was already using the same engine) and see if it looks kinda worse on PlayStation 3, what does it really prove? I am just saying that hold back these flame wars till you compare games like Halo 3 and Killzone 2 (when both available). That still won't prove that one system is better than the other but still, will give an idea.

Afterall the winner won't be determined anytime soon, and you guys are definately wasting your time posting over on this kind of stuff day and night.

I dont think the differences in graphics are as clear cut as xbox360 fanboys think. In some respects it has been said that the graphics on the ps3 are better - whether due to hardware (doubt it) or development time (more likely).

Like Ridge Racer 7 at 1080p sharper and more impressive.

Though it has been said on Gamespot that the graphics on the 360 are better in a lot of them - is certainly not all - and from reading around from other (less bias) sites the ps3 has been said to be slightly better - so as I said I doubt this is hardware, but development time - but just means there really is no need to say '360's graphics are always better in cross-platform games' - because they aren't always.

sorry, but your wrong about this. Dev kits for both systems were released at the same time.

When the Xbox launched, from day 1 the games looked better than anything else on any system. It didn't require an extra year the catch up to the ps2. If the ps3 need to take an extra year to make games better than the 360 then it is infact less powerful than what sony fanbois wish it was. Yes the possiblity exists that they will look better but not much then the 360.

I own both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 and I'll tell ya... they're both great... now as far as some games looking better on the Xbox 360 bear in mind that there are a number of reasons for this: 1) PS3 titles are still first generation titles while Xbox 360 are now in their second gen so developers have had more time to wrap their heads around the hardware..
2) in all likelihood these titles development cycle began on the Xbox 360 or the PC and were then simply ported over to PS3 (which is fairly common with new hardware) and 3) these title have had more time to develop and the games are rushed to new hardware to make pressing and shipping dealines.

And folks remember when the Xbox 360 launched there were absolutely NO great games and the well was every bit as dry as the PS3 launch...

The best way to examine this news is to think of gaming companies as clothing companies. Think of EA as GAP, you go in there and they have standard sizes for all their clothes. You might find a size that fits you well but if you wear a large and all they have are mediums, there will be something lost.
Now think of companies like Konami, or even Epic as Armani, you go in the store, they measure you and make something that is tailor made to your body type, its going to fit better, highlighting your best qualities and minimizing your flaws (Both PS3 and 360 have shortcomings, no way around it).
EA is the PORT king, everyone knows this, so PS3 got the 360 port. If you think about it they probably initially began work on the 360 version and then began work on the PS3 version later on. 360 got the slightly better port, so what? EA sport games I.M.H.O. are overrated, Madden has seen slight improvements for years but people buy it year after year for minor tweeks (2 new players, and a hit stick). EA is the biggest video game company around, and as we all know when you get big, sometimes quality is lost in the process, or corners are cut for the bottom line (Walmart).
I agree with all who have said that exclusives are the real way to judge differences, and even then its up to the various developers to determine what they want to accomplish. A straight up graphical comparison is going to be almost impossible to make because in M.O. once the same game is being released on multiple platforms they will MOST LIKELY choose to favor one platform over another.
This is obviously a huge portion of many of your lives, but after reading the article it all strikes me as arguments over a bunch of minutia that was taken completely out of context.
Just know this, the tables can turn at nay time, and its inevitable that at some point down the road a PS3 game will come out looking better than the 360, I can't speak for anyone else but when that occurs I will be looking to see a few of your reactions.
This reminds me of back in the day when Sega and Nintendo were fighting for supremacy, I guess some things never change.

And they said that the next gneration starts with the PS3.Even Ridge Racer 6 on 360 looks better than Ridge Racer 7 on PS3.Its no excuse now that the PS3 is here and the games dont look better than the first gneration games of the 360.I like this competition between these great companies,each trying to be the best of the best.
