Running an emulator on your Xbox Series X|S might sound like a good idea, but you shouldn't do it. Here's why.

Nah fam I'll play my storm generations on xenia thank you very much.

SullysCigar790d ago

Just the account ban would be reason enough for me, even without everything else!

Iceball2000790d ago

Couldn’t you just make a new account for your emulator stuff?

SullysCigar790d ago

I'm guessing that would just get banned too?

MadLad790d ago

You don't need to. This is a nothing article based on "what if".

I have multiple friends who own Xbox, turned them into an emulation machine, and not a thing happened with doing so.
And despite what is said in the article, the games actually run great. This is a pretty fabricated story.

They can ban the account OR THE DEVICE. If your device gets the axe, no amount of account swapping will allow you back online.

@MadLad
Yeah but MS also has a habit of chnaging its practices whenever it feels like when you least expect it in ways that typically hurts the end user even if they're not doing anything remotely illegal. It's why I can't play my disc version of Crysis on PC anymore and that shift happened years ago.

Who's to say MS won't walk back the ability for you to use certain UWP apps (specifically emulators) on Xbox Series devices?

They won't actually ban you unless you upload screenshots or videos to Xbox Live.

isarai790d ago

I've never heard of anyone getting banned for this

MadLad790d ago (Edited 790d ago )

I run a bunch of emulators; ranging from the original Nintendo all the way to the PS2, GameCube and Switch.

This article is just a straight up lie, unless the person writing literally doesn't know how to emulate properly. I have all of these running great just on a Series S.

Still somehow haven't been banned.

Hell, they just got Xbox 360 emulation running decent on the Series consoles.

shinoff2183790d ago

The article did with the ban it would be if you uploaded video etc. Can you run dev mode offline ? I'm curious for the future when their cheaper.

MadLad790d ago

You can run emulation without dev mode anymore. The only thing I know has happened, it terms of emulation, is that they were taking away some people's right to developer mode because they weren't actually producing content.

I have a good amount of people I talk to, as well as me, personally, that are having no issues running emulation on the Series systems.

Sgt_Slaughter790d ago

Please ignore this article, it is all around inaccurate and false in every way. Emulation on Xbox Series consoles is one of the easiest things you can do with no risk to your account, it rivals the Wii and DS in terms of ease of use. Soon, 3DS/Wii U/PS3 and even Switch might be an option that runs well on the system.

Microsoft will not ban you, they literally designed apps to work across all Microsoft platforms and Xbox is no exception.

jeromeface790d ago

let a major news network pick up that microsoft is enabling piracy and see how long your emulation sticks around.

MadLad790d ago

It's been widely known for a long while now. It has even been made easier, for months, with no blowback.

I think they're fine.

Nintendo, of all companies, would have them already in court if there was a legal leg to stand on.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Review - IGN

Like a Mythic Dawn cultist popping out of a secret room to stab the Emperor in the back, a remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has shown up out of nowhere, and it’s a dagger I’ve gladly thrown myself onto for over 80 hours (and counting) in less than a week. This Unreal-tinted glasses nostalgia trip modestly modernizes one of my all-time favorite open-world RPGs and had me teaming up with Sean Bean to close shut the jaws of Oblivion, helping the God of Madness with his, um, complicated mental health issues, rising to the top of every faction like I was angling to become Cyrodiil’s Valedictorian, and violating every single person’s personal space by getting way too close to them while talking.

This is the score I would give it too. A few QoL improvements and some much needed combat enhancements particularly for the camera allow it to be appreciated in the modern era. However the performance issues persist even on performance mode.

Are we just going to admit that bugs are a gameplay feature required for all Bethesda games, and therefore they won't get docked points for it?
