The DEFINITIVE way to play this game. Just like OG PSVR was the definitive way to play RE7 - and that fell WAY short of where Village VR has landed. Such an excellent start in terms of launch games.

Edit @Below: 100% agree

Neonridr484d ago (Edited 484d ago )

RE8 shows you how a VR game should be. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed RE7 in VR, but having access to other VR at the time on my PC, I hated being relegated to just moving my head around and still using a controller. This is how VR is meant to be played. I can't wait to play this later tonight.

fr0sty483d ago

Hearing a lot of these "Best ever" comments related to PSVR2... many reviews call it the best overall VR headset, and now its games are being called the best ever VR experiences. That bodes well for it!

Neonridr483d ago

@fr0sty - I had a chance to play for an hour or so last night with the headset. It's what I expected it to be as a VR veteran. It won't blow people away if they are experienced with other headsets like the Index or Quest 2, but it's a big leap over the 1st gen devices that's for sure. The haptics are a nice addition and the colors pop on the screen. As long as people don't expect it to look as good as games do on their 4K TVs and just be immersed in what's around you, they will enjoy it very much.

victorMaje483d ago

Not getting mine until Tuesday, you just made the wait harder :)
I only played a few hours of it, might be the perfect opportunity to continue, now where did I put those adult diapers?

crazyCoconuts483d ago

Feeling the force of the shotgun through your headset is a pretty neat touch. Definitely adds to that feeling of raw power

Knushwood Butt483d ago

Absolutely. It feels really meaty. Surprising how strong that is.

Jin_Sakai483d ago

“The DEFINITIVE way to play this game.“

“The DEFINITIVE way to have a heart attack.”

Fixed that for you.

I was blown away from the VR tutorial alone for this game.. it's really jaw dropping how good this game looks and feels in vr. Super impressed.

PureBlood483d ago

Same here. I was just listening to Virtual Strangers on YouTube and they were saying it looks better on PSVR2 than flat screen, due in part to the sense of depth and scale.

It goes without saying that the sound will be more impactful too, given sounds are relative to where you actually are and what you're seeing.

crazyCoconuts483d ago (Edited 483d ago )

I just played the demo and yeah lots of ambient sounds with very real presence that caused me to shine my flashlight or spin around. Sound positioning is pretty awesome

EazyC483d ago

This and GT7 are "the" firing shots as far as a proper VR revolution is concerned.

If Sony can pump out titles of this calibre then PSVR 2 will be legendary (either as individual games or fully equivalent VR versions of pancake titles).

Have only played GT7 and Pavlov so far but really looking forward to this.

JEECE483d ago

The worry though is whether there will actually be a consistent stream of quality titles on this level. Sony put effort into Vita at the beginning, and then it dropped off and became an indie machine (not that indie games are bad, it just wasn't the console quality on the go experience the system was supposed to offer). PS VR1 support dropped off a cliff too.

MIDGETonSTILTS17483d ago

I think psvr 2 is selling better than Vita and VR1 so far

ApocalypseShadow483d ago (Edited 483d ago )

This isn't the Vita. It's not a portable. And PSVR 1 received a lot of games. If someone bought one right now, they'd have over 5-6 hundred games and experiences to play. That's plenty games for an add on for one person. How many did it need at the end of it's life?

But this one is way different. The complaints was that VR wasn't getting full games. Which was false as PSVR got RE7, Borderlands, Skyrim, Hitman 3 collection, Blood and Truth, Astrobot, Moss, Doom, Farpoint, Star Wars Squadrons, etc.

Sony is starting off with GT7 and RE8 right off the bat. That's Sony making a point. More of these games are coming. Because the system has enough power, has better controllers because PC developers complained about PS Moves. They can't say shit now about Sony's controllers.

There's nothing stopping the headset from getting ANY PC game, ANY mobile game. And with eye tracking, it makes hybrid games possible. GT7 and RE8 are PS5 games. Not modes, not experiences, not PS2 and PS3 games. PS5 games.

Sony made a great system, made a great controller, made a great headset, made great 3D sound, and added an SSD, released award winning games consistently. But still get complaints and worrying about if Sony has more. The naysayers right now are saying all Sony's has this year is Spider-Man 2 and FF. Which we all know isn't true. Sony's been holding on a lot more closer to their chest. When you found out what they got for flat and VR, hopefully your worrying will cease. As long as Sony keeps making a profit like they did with PSVR, the record breaking sales they just had during Christmas, then some of that money will be going towards VR and funding more games. Believe that. Just watch and see.

EazyC481d ago

We'll have to see initial sales, but I think gamers WILL respond to quality content. I only bought PSVR 2 for GT7, I mean...that is the power of a single title right there.

UltimateOwnage483d ago

Don’t forget launching with Horizon: COTM in the box. Super excited to get my hands on shortly.

mkis007483d ago

Having the controllers with proper analog sticks should make more full blown games vr portable

Kurt Russell483d ago

I only have Horizon and GT7. Horizon looks amazing, but out of the two GT7 is the one I am putting all my time into... It's amazing

For the Metro to praise something, it must be good. :)

SullysCigar483d ago

They've just hit the same impasse the xbox guy at IGN did when they stuck him in GT7 and he felt like he was actually sat in the Delorean he used to own. He stuttered and eventually conceded it blew his mind!

Babadook7483d ago (Edited 483d ago )

I tried the demo and was pleased beyond words. Far more impressive overall than the 2d version of RE8 and call of the mountain combined. Must play.

Sony no longer cares about the PSVR 2, and neither should you

It's a sad, disappointing story that could have been so much better.

Drop the price and a lot of people will care

blackblades1d 1h ago

Can't drop price when you'll lose money. Also to note people keep talking about wanting them to do a vita 2. In reality it'll end up the same way as this and the vita. Then the same people would B* and say the same thing.

Cacabunga21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

I will care when they allow backward compatibility.. i do not want 2 headsets for my PS4 library

JackBNimble16h ago

If sony wants psvr2 to be mainstream, then they drop the price. Obviously they won't do that and it will just end up dying like the vita.

Shiro1736h ago

Vita only died cause of the proprietary memory card. If it used regular SD cards shit would still be alive.

Zeref5h ago

The Vita 2 will live if it plays the exact same games as the Ps4 or PS5.

I can't imagine it won't with today's technology.

InUrFoxHole2h ago

Allow back compat and lower the price. Id rather take the price hit and move what ever units I have vs. Leave them on the shelves. Unless sony thinks it's only a matter of time before they move the units

StormSnooper23h ago

Not sure what this article is about because they just released a bunch of games for it…

Babadook720h ago

I’ll give you one word.

FUD.

They’ve been at that since day one. They want it dead.

Neonridr7h ago

3rd party is anchoring it. It was sad when one of their main advertised games prior to the headset coming out lasted a whole 3 months (Firewall Ultra).

savedsynner5h ago

Agreed! Just some opinion piece with a click bait headline. I agree, PSVR2 is very much alive. It's clearly not the top priority i the PS lineup, but VR will only get better and IMO is not a fad like 3d tvs were15 years ago(remember those lol).

Plus, The PSVR2 is one of if not the only affordable VR headset with OLED, which will become PC compatible in August(minus some features like haptic feedback which for me, is not really a big deal)

maniacmayhem2h ago

A bunch? Are you sure about that?

And even if true, I think quality over quantity would be of better relevance here

S2Killinit32m ago

@maniacmayhem
Yeah they did release a bunch of games recently. And if by “quality” you mean actual gameplay quality, then there is plenty of that in VR. In fact some of the best gaming experiences is on VR. But if by “quality” you mean flashy AAA, then no, not too many of those. Although there are some of that, but they are few and far between.

Sony dropped the price for their summer sales event.

fr0sty20h ago

Nothing more annoying than articles that assume things, and articles that tell you what to think, and this one does both.

-Foxtrot11h ago

I don’t think a price drop will make a difference

We’re just not quite there with VR to make huge impacts

Everytime we do make improvements it’s so expensive that you’ll never make it mainstream

Just seems pointless

We’ve had cool stuff like Half Life Alyx for example but most people still would just prefer a more traditional experience with these games for mass appeal. I can appreciate the cool things VR does for a game like that but if it didn’t have VR and it was just a standard game as long as it’s top quality I’ll rate it high regardless.

crazyCoconuts7h ago

I guess the fact that it's not mainstream doesn't take away from it being pretty awesome for the people that do enjoy it.
Re: preference on games, I'll say one thing, I can't go back to driving or flying games that aren't in VR at this point - it just feels wrong not to be able to turn your head.

-Foxtrot6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Yeah I get that, I do, but I think the point here the article is talking about anyway is why Sony and others would leave it behind.

It’s cool, a great concept but if it’s not mainstream or no one can get it there so of course there’s not going to be much support for it

Why focus on something when most aren’t bothered

I’d rather they drop it for now and focus on more PS5 exclusive games

People can like it obviously but no one can get mad it’s not getting much support these days

Zeref5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Ignoring the ridiculous amount of money Sony would lose.

The investment for most people is too high for little pay off. Even 300 dollars would be too much for a handful of games.

I care as soon I can have one headset that works on both pc and ps5.

fr0sty20h ago

They have an adapter coming in August that enables just that.

ocelot0719h ago

My comment should of been written like this.

I care, As soon I can have one headset that works on both pc and ps5.

arm711742h ago

Yes, thank you @frosty, semantics but never the less the point being.

Fishy Fingers1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

Admirable for persisting but after PSVR is it any surprise?

Half baked PC release feels more like an effort to shift dead stock then anything else.

VincentVanBro5h ago

That’s exactly what it is. Sony has a surplus of headsets.

VariantAEC2h ago

Totally the reason only 1 store had a single headset available. PS must have so much backstock they aren't selling to retailers! /s

dumahim1h ago

@VariantAEC

Or retailers don't stock them because they're not selling.

bunt-custardly23h ago

Not enough people buying the hardware. The strategy from the get-go should have been these hybrid releases and as mentioned in the article, some form of wizardry like Praydog's UEVR mod for older Playstation titles converted into VR with very little effort once the software is sorted.

Basically a lack of vision from the corporate side.

Babadook720h ago

Praydog may be wizardry but the experience isn’t there.

As a long time supporter of VR the experience of VR2 is pretty awesome.

bunt-custardly16h ago

I haven't tried PSVR 2 but on your other point, I am gonna have to disagree with you there strongly. As a PCVR user (RTX 4090 PC), playing games that weren't meant for VR even with a gamepad is way better than playing flatscreen. I guess it boils down to whether you're one of those people who believe "It's not VR without motion controllers" or not. I always remind people who take this stance of when the CV1 Oculus RIFT launched without those controllers vs HTC Vive. Regardless of the differences, CV1 players still had a great time in VR, as they did with the previous Oculus DK1 & 2. Being immersed in the game world, feeling the sense-of-scale does not require motion controllers as a prerequisite.

Neonridr7h ago

VR in general is pretty awesome, but you have to want to play your games like that. Many people would rather just sit on their sofa and play their games, not necessarily stand up (I know some games can be played seated)

crazyCoconuts6h ago

@bunt - i haven't tried the Praydog mods as I don't have PCVR anymore, but am encouraged by what you're saying. I imagine PS might have some hurdles to apply such a thing to 3rd party games w/out their permission, but it would be encouraging for them to at least do it to some of their 1st party games. I'd probably play the Uncharted games again if I could do it in VR, even 3rd person w/ a controller...

Babadook72h ago(Edited 2h ago)

@bunt

Yeah it's not a bad bit of software to mess around with. But as a way to play RE8 (which it was billed as) it's not up there with a full VR production.

MIDGETonSTILTS1723h ago

Ummm, they’re releasing at least 4 high profile games for the headset in 2024 alone:
1) Metro VR
2) Behemoth
3) Aliens
4) War Thunder

That’s more games than SOME platforms release in an entire gen…. So how can you say Sony doesn’t care about their latest headset?

Fishy Fingers23h ago(Edited 23h ago)

"They're" not releasing any of those, all 3rd party. Has Sony developed or published a single PSVR2 game since 2023?

ocelot0723h ago

In that case then Sony no longer cares about the ps5 and neither should we right? Only released helldivers 2 so far this year. What's next astrobot in September?

The thing is. The PSVR2 can absolutely survive on just 3rd party releases. Ps5 has proved is this year. Just as Xbox did for the last 10 years.

Fishy Fingers22h ago

Odd, your supporting argument for proving Sony cares about PSVR2 is that they hasn't released much for PS5 either? Interesting take.

But there is a difference, we know PS5 games are coming, being worked both by Sony and their collaboration with other studios and there is a constant and consistent release of 3rd party. PSVR2, not so much.

Babadook720h ago

3rd party seems to be the strategy though. And it may well have been for the best. Sony had recruited a fair bit of support. And that proves the article here wrong.

MIDGETonSTILTS1720h ago

If it is superior experience to the Quest port, and comparable to the experience with a Steam headset… then I am happy.

Ps5conehead18h ago

Who gives a crap as long as there are games

MrNinosan6h ago

How many games have Valved released last 10 years?
We should cry about that and stop buying games on Steam as well, right?

ChasterMies4h ago

PC gaming is dead because Dell, HP, and Lenovo didn’t release any PC games. /s

S2Killinit26m ago(Edited 24m ago)

What's the difference? Those are more “exclusive” than anything released on a MS console even. Who cares if the exclusives are made by this studio or that studio?

+ Show (5) more repliesLast reply 26m ago
Neonridr7h ago

who's they? certainly not Sony studios.

Zeref5h ago

These aren't Sony titles.
The thing is dead idk why it's so hard to believe. It flopped commercially and Sony doesn't even support it with their own 1st party games.

Babadook72h ago

It sold quite well actually. Well ahead of PSVR. Half of Quest 2 + 3 in its first year.

Lol I doubt iPhone contributed much to that figure, the vast majority would have been PS5 and PC.

mastershredder9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Yeah, of course the mobile sites are going to make news out of the couple digit in-the-thousands or so downloads as a major contribution. The original story was that Village hit the 10 million mark across all the platforms, nice for mobile fans to take it up a serious notch like it was due on behalf of mobile.

Please, try Synth Riders. It's better than Beat Saber imho, and I love Beat Saber. You literally feel like dancing.
