PSVR2 review: is Sony PlayStation VR2 the best virtual reality ever?

From the moment I first donned PlayStation VR2 and started playing Horizon: Call of the Mountain, it blew my mind.

Sony has crafted a mighty impressive virtual reality kit for the PS5 that's entirely comfortable and has the scope to deliver truly immersive, impressively detailed games.

Certainly seems to be plenty of reviewers saying exactly that.

Sony is murdering the naysayers. The console is awesome. The sales of the console are awesome. The headset is awesome. The pulse is awesome. The games are reviewing to be awesome. The 3D sound is awesome.

There's nothing they can grab on. Just accept the reality. That Sony is killing it. They don't say much. They just let the hardware and the games do the talking.

The headset is proving every other headset going forward had better have eye tracking and foveated rendering. Make it standard across the board.

"3d sound" is on every platform sony just marketed it better. In fact sony was too cheap to get dolby atmos on board which xbox support and offer the real og 3d audio with ceiling avr surround, ceiling speakers. Intead sony use its own chip which is nothing special. You get the 3d gimmick audio on headphones when you buy the dolby or dts license from xbox store. With avr no need to buy since its allready included with avr itself.

The pulse headset is nothing more than standard 2.0 headset there is no any magical surround elements. 3d audio butcher sound quality and uses echoing tricks to give the sense of directional audio. Its nowhere near comparable to real speaker surround.

Uninformed much?

Apart from anything else, one reason the 3D sound is notable on PS5 is that the processing power is offset to the dedicated Tempest chip, leaving more room for the rest of the necessary processing for each game.

This is a major consideration, especially for PSVR2 when you're rendering images twice (one for each eye - and outputting for the social screen) and running games between 90-120fps. You can try to downplay, but that was some clever forward thinking when they engineered PS5.

Surround (ceiling) speakers do not apply to vr. Headphone based virtual surround is the only viable solution for tracking with your head orientation and ps5 reigns supreme there. Someday there will be an equivalent Atmos virtualizer to Sonys in house tech but not yet.

That's the consensus - I'll let you know when mine arrives, but it sure looks that way!

Mine is on the way now . It says Wednesday delivery but I get deliveries early white frequently for some reason. Maybe because I live in a rural area they think it will take more time then it actually does ?

S2Killinit797d ago

Its the best currently. When Quest 3 arrives it will have competition and that is a good thing. Especially since the VR heasets are in it together.

True, But ones DNA is about games.... Not social interactions.
