Anyone who has seen or played Fallout 3 knows that the slo-mo VATS system can provide some pretty gruesome scenes - this is no exception. Possibly the goriest headshot Ripten has ever seen in their lives, complete with distinctive flying eyeballs and a lower jaw, is contained herein. Mature content warning!

Yeah it is nice, but once you do this over and over in the game it gets kinda boring.... not the exploding head part that's great, it's the slow motion part that takes forever. Like those ghouls, sledghammer/powerfist to the face in normal time is so much easier than shooting them.

What's nice in Fallout 3 is that the "explosive" headshots don't happen systematically. Sometimes, the enemy just fall, other times he is beheaded and his head rolls on the floor, and other times the head explodes.

This gory aspect fits perfectly with the background of the game, desolated lands ravaged by mutations, wars and chaos, where some prefer to lose their mind to give them up to a pure brutality. Fallout 3 is a really nice game.

Yeah I got that on my first playthrough, along with full skill points in small weapons (rifles, smg's, semi-auto's, etc.). By the end of the game, my damage rating for the hunting rifle was like....30-something with it fully repaired lol.

LOL I got headshots like that all the time with VATS. Nothing special here. I exploded HUNDREDS of heads. THOUSANDS, maybe. Especially with the sniper rifle and the hunting rifle....oh my GOD.

I'm really struggling to get into Fallout 3. Everyone is telling me how awesome it is, but I have just made it out of the Vault and to Megaton and instantly when I move anywhere I get attacked by some really powerful animals. I can't afford much ammo which misses most of the time anyway when I try so I end up using a lead pipe to club things to death but this costs me health.

Any tips? I don't remember Oblivion being a problem to get into I was gripped instantly. I like the setting of the game so I want to get into it. Is there anything I can do to or am I going wrong somewhere?

dont let it get the better of you in those first few frustating hours. i put nearly 300 hours into oblivion, managed to get fallout a few days before release, got out of the vault, found megaton...then decided it was utter dissapointment and it wasnt the game for me.

didnt play it for a few weeks, all ready to trade it in, stuck it on for one last hoorah, and here i am, 150 hours into it. the lack of direction initially is overwhelming, but once you've done a couple of things, you'll be sucked in. things to start with i reckon are -

the elementary school in springdale straight away (guns and armour)
moira's wasteland survival guide (kind of a tutorial)

doing moira's quest will get you used to wasteland travel, finding new places, and give you plenty of exp to level up a bit so you can feel less afraid!

I remember Oblivion how much it was hard for me, since potions were very rare.
About Fallout 3, i've finished it 3 times with 3 different characters (one weapon / stealth based, one explosive / laser based and one charisma / stealing based) and every time, the way to survive is the same.

First, go to Megaton, make the Survival Guide Quest (in the Craterside reserve). It's very long but most of the objectives are easy and it can give you some additional stuff (enhancing your resistance, changing your radiation comportment, etc...). For some, you will have to enhance your Charisma for speaking competences (which is actually very useful).

At each place you discover, go inside, kill what's in and take what you can sell for a good price. First, it will be weapons and small stuff, ammos also. Then go see a merchant, sell what you don't need (all your extra ammos, weapons, medics and stuff you will never use). Merchants don't have always enough money, so you may buy them Stimpaks.

Continuing like that, each of my characters have more than 20k capsules and 500 to 900 Stimpaks. With big money, you can buy better stuff, with big amount of Stimpaks, you can survive to any situation.

Increasing the Charisma-based abilities makes the prices lower and you may influence some quests, increasing Repair ability permit you to have better stuff and repair it for free, a clean weapon sells more than a broken weapon.

So take every weapon you find (excepted blades and small pistols), repair them, keep them, take every stuff you can sell well and everything that has no weight. Each time you go in a town, sell your stuff, buy what you need (Stimpaks, ammos, repaired weapons,...) and continue.

I didn't like Fallout 3 at the beginning, i thought it was clearly overhyped, but now that i have played it a good time, i find it very interesting, even if it's not perfect.
