God of War Ragnarok Ending Explained by Narrative Director

Sony Santa Monica's Narrative Director, Matt Sophos gives some insight on the meaning behind the God of War Ragnarok ending (spoiler warning).

Unpopular opinion, ending was horrible. Change my mind.

Shadowsteal521d ago

Nah eff that I cried at the ending. 20 years after Kratos was introduced he's finally regarded as something other than rage.

Lexreborn2521d ago

Being able to see Kratos love again and fight for what he loves. To grow out of the rage and vengeance thanks to his boy. The message to BE BETTER was so loud and clear it was amazing

Inverno521d ago (Edited 521d ago )

Kratos found his humanity again in the previous game, and that was an aspect of the story I really enjoyed. To the player he's no longer this rage filled god. But he's not known to anyone other than his close circle of friends, I don't think that ending was earned based on the lack of interaction and lack of things he does for others.

Lexreborn2520d ago

@inverno I play it last night, and the side quest with the mainstory actually makes it feel earned. I did a bulk of the side quest with Freya and then Atreus but with freya the dialog and seeing him open up to her while talking to mimmir was excellent. Watching him give others choices in scenarios he would normally take over in.

Going from feeling like helping the dead was meaningless to connecting with them on missions that reminded him of his son.

He earned that ending fully, and accepting his sons an individual. Not calling him boy the entire journey it was great. But if you are talking about the end ending then that was just sad, seeing Sindri like that really messed me up.

“ It's a great excuse to jump back into the fray with videogame’s second favorite Spartan.”

So you’re saying that the game Hades and its star character, never played it, are bigger more well known and liked than Kratos and the God of War series?

Armyofdarkness108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

He obviously means Kassandra, right?

Gamehard108d ago

I don't think the MC from Hades is a spartan though. Not 100% sure, but yeah I don't know of any other spartan game character that's more popular than Kratos.

Psychonaut85108d ago

Im guessing he’s speaking more broadly and is referring to Master Chief as the most popular “Spartan”

Abnor_Mal108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

That’s likely who it is, I don’t if Master Chief can be considered a “true” Spartan like Kratos lol.

Master Chief Spartan label is just a rank given in the Halo military, sorry not a Halo gamer so I have no clue what their army is called in the game.

But is Master Chief really more popular as a Spartan, interesting question.
