I really tried getting into the game, but the gameplay was so lackluster. I did enjoy the banter though between the characters

Zarock1304d ago

It opens up the more you play.

Five hours was enough to see it wasn't my thing.

XbladeTeddy1304d ago

The combat isn't great but the story and everything else is brilliant. I loved my time with it.

rdgneoz31304d ago

Combat is about a B. Not horrible, not award winning. But the story and interactions between characters is what makes the game.

CrimsonWing691304d ago

Wait, I want to hear why you think this.

Magog1304d ago

Because they have the weakest characters, poorest writing, and generally are aimed at the most low brow audiences with predictable jokes, action and plots.

Flewid6381304d ago

Some do and some don't. Pretty sure that applies to every genre ever made.

CrimsonWing691304d ago (Edited 1304d ago )

Exactly!

Guardians of the Galaxy had one of the best examples of fantastic characters in any game, period. The humor was on point, the story was actually really deep and had moments that really hit me hard like Drax talking about his family and a few moments with Star Lord I don't want to spoil. The writing was actually some of the best I've seen in gaming. I don't know a whole bunch about the comic lore, but I was thoroughly invested in the story and the game was some of the most fun I've had in a while.

SurgicalMenace1304d ago

The arrogant and judgemental air speaks volumes, little guy. Low brow? Can you even develop? What is your contribution to the industry? What have you accomplished that would be an example of "high brow" prowess?

RaidenBlack1304d ago

So I guess you have no interest in the upcoming Insomniac games.

Magog1304d ago (Edited 1304d ago )

Spiderman had good mechanics but bad writing and dumb enemies. If they can make a grounded version of wolverine that strays from the typical it has a chance of being great but even if the story sucks you just know the mechanics will be top notch. I would much prefer if they made a new IP.

spss111303d ago

I say this as someone who is as far from being a Marvel fan as you can get... Guardians of the Galaxy is a great game with excellent writing and characters. It honestly surprised me. Better than the films, which I think are overrated.

HannibalLecter1304d ago

Good looking out
Meijer Here I come lol

LucasRuinedChildhood1304d ago

They really need to optimize the Performance Mode for PS5 and Series X, and get it up to a higher resolution.

Zarock1304d ago

Yep performace is really bad at 60fps mode. Stutters a lot.

XbladeTeddy1304d ago

It's the same for PC even owners of 3080's and 90's are dealing with stutters and crap like that. If those cards have trouble we're all screwed.

badz1491304d ago

simply because the game engine they are using sucks. 1080p60fps for PS5 and SX and yet the performance is all over the place. unacceptable IMO

SurgicalMenace1304d ago

Why is it that people act like any hiccup makes a game unplayable? You know what has the highest resolution, best FPS, and photo realistic graphics? Life....when you're performing in it you'll have little concern of what's going on in a virtual representation. Lighten up fellas it's just a game.

LucasRuinedChildhood1304d ago

Nothing wrong with having standards, man. A PS5 game at 1080p should run without issues, and this article is specifically about the game being updated, so I'm just saying what I want them to do next.

Also, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. You got angry that people want Bobby Kotick fired ... after it was confirmed by his own spokesperson that he sent a voicemail to a female employee threatening to kill her. lol.

SurgicalMenace1304d ago (Edited 1304d ago )

Angry? Not at all sir, I am a non emote, sir. Just fairly stating that people respond after hearing only one side of things. You're far too old to be a creep, but even so perhaps learn how to interpret things are they are said.

Spokesperson isn't a jury nor a judge.

LucasRuinedChildhood1303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

No idea what any of that first paragraph actually means, but the only "creep" being discussed here is Bobby Kotick.

"Spokesperson isn't a jury nor a judge."

You're being a child. Stating the obvious here, but if your spokesperson is forced to apologize for you sending death threats to an employee while trying to downplay the seriousness of it, then it happened. Otherwise, they'd just say it's not true. That's just common sense. The only way your reply makes any sense at all is if you're suggesting that Kotick's own spokesperson is making stuff up to make him look bad, so we need a judge to rule on this. lol.

If you send death threats to an employee, you no longer deserve that role. End of. He needs to be punished accordingly, i.e. fired.

antikbaka1304d ago

the later you play games these days - the better experience you are going to have.

It seems now you should avoid not only buying pre-orders, but also playing for a month or two

Guardians, Lost Eidolons, Stranded. This pack is a steal for the price.

ChasterMies280d ago

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is a great game and also a good reminder that despite protestations against more games as a service games, the market does not reward great single player games.

FinalFantasyFanatic280d ago

Guardians of the Galaxy had a different issue, being Square-Enix and customers getting burned with the Avengers game... Of course Guardians of the Galaxy was going to be a harder sell than it should have been, but that failure is on Square-Enix's shoulders.

MrWood221d ago

Their marketing was horrible for the game honestly. I think that’s what killed the hype— it was my game of the year and totally didn’t expect it based on trailers.
