The Guardians Of The Galaxy Game Deserved Better

In a world where superhero team-up games are clearly harder to do than some studios think they are, Guardians of the Galaxy nailed it.

Totally

This game was more respectful the comic books than the James Gunn films, it's kind of what I wanted from them but didn't get. It's packed full of lore and references, creating their own thing while still being respectful the source material.

Mantis alone was fantastic and they even gave her the mantis like blades

I loved it. The whole mission with Mantis on Lamentis was hilarious because of all her lines. They really nailed the characters in that game. Drax had me dying with all his Dog Report Item stuff.

The gameplay was the issue for me. So mid. Halfway through i just wanted it to play like a telltale game so i could get to the rest of the story faster.

porkChop766d ago

Yeah that was my only gripe. The combat could have had more depth and generally been more interesting.

Sgt_Slaughter766d ago

The game most likely suffered due to Avengers because Eidos-Montréal did additional work on the game in addition to Crystal Dynamics

Most of the time being respectful of comic books is worse for the adaptation.

The Zack Snyder films were more respectful to the comic Books - both in terms of characterisation and tone - but the world went with the Marvel movies, which basically took the superhero element out of their stories in favour of reflecting the lives of soldiers.

It was my pick for GotY that year.

Such a fantastic game and well written. I feel it did more Justice to the Adam Warlock character than this new movie.

It’s annoying it didn’t sell well… errr well enough by Square Enix’s standards.

It was a great single player game filled with wonderful lore and nice touches. Journalists didn't cover it much either so I don't know what this person is on about.

the article is great, but the headline is super misleading. The author is just saying that the game deserved far more recognition and praise than it actually did.

Moegooner766d ago

It suffered from various issues, including crashes and glitches. So there's that

chrisx766d ago (Edited 766d ago )

True that. I remember seeing mantis in the beginning of the game in my ship just standing in a corner like a statue. Long before you get to meet her in game. It was fun but damn it was a glitch fest haha

Daeloki766d ago

Not sure Midnight Suns deserves that shoutout, I barely made it past the first act before it grew too stale and repetitive to continue and there was nothing more to explore/discover in the base... Might pick it back up again after a break but overall pretty disappointed.

Guardians of the Galaxy tho, that one was a masterpiece. Admittedly I was super sceptical when it was revealed, fortunately a friend then bought it and convinced me it was worth it.

i liked it alot actually, made me laugh alot too haha.

Guardians, Lost Eidolons, Stranded. This pack is a steal for the price.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is a great game and also a good reminder that despite protestations against more games as a service games, the market does not reward great single player games.

FinalFantasyFanatic279d ago

Guardians of the Galaxy had a different issue, being Square-Enix and customers getting burned with the Avengers game... Of course Guardians of the Galaxy was going to be a harder sell than it should have been, but that failure is on Square-Enix's shoulders.

MrWood221d ago

Their marketing was horrible for the game honestly. I think that’s what killed the hype— it was my game of the year and totally didn’t expect it based on trailers.
